The Sims 4: Playing a Vampire
Turning Into a Vampire, Thirst, and Skill Levels
Turning into a Vampire is pretty easy, just build up a small friendship with any known Vampire. The mansion in Forgotten Hollow is a great place to start if you have an existing save file.
Since there is a bit more to the Sims 4 Vampires Game Pack than just the Vampires, I've separated out this section from the main page for the game pack. This is to teach you the basics of playing, how to become a vampire, and satisfying vampires' need for energy and thirst. You'll also learn about their weaknesses and special interactions such as the ability to Woohoo as a bat.
Read below to learn all about playing as a Vampire. Deeper information can be found on other pages:
Ask to Turn allows a Sim to make yours into a Vampire. Vampires may also be made in Create-a-Sim.
There are a few ways to make your Sim become a vampire. One is to initially create the family in Create-a-Sim and click the + in the bottom left, where you'd normally pick 'Add Sim'. Just as with Aliens in Get to Work, you can add a vampire directly into a family you are creating.
Another option, which will be widely used, is to befriend a Sim who is a vampire. Vampires may visit your lot at night. You could take the opportunity to talk to and meet a vampire that way. A guaranteed way to become one is to head to the mansion in the new Neighborhood, Forgotten Hollow. The master there is a vampire who can turn you once you've built some friendship.
'Ask to Turn' will have the target vampire feed from you, then allow you to drink from them, granting your Sim eternal life and a lust for Plasma. It doesn't take long at all for the request to come up - the conversation need only be friendly.
Being bitten and feeding from a vampire will give your Sim a 'Strangely Hungry' Moodlet, which will make them get sick from regular food after a time, while hunger simultaneously decays 50% faster. You'll have to eat a good deal, but won't be satisfied (the moodlet stays). Expect your Sim to feel uncomfortable from time to time.
When the transformation is complete, you'll get a glimpse at your Sim's dark form, whose outfit may be randomly determined. You may want to change their wardrobe a bit, seriously. Do this at a dresser. The Dark Form is what your vampire uses to look evil.
After a short time, a popup text message will appear informing you that it takes a few days to transform. You will then gain level 1 of the Vampire Lore Skill and are on your way to becoming a vampire. More texts may come, a type of mini tutorial, in which the vampire who turned you will welcome you to the clan and provide some plasma packs for on-the-go feeding as well as skill XP for Vampire Lore. Asking them not to call you any more will let you skip the 'tutorial' on future playthroughs.
The whole process of turning into a vampire takes about 36 hours. You'll be a fledgling vampire with hardly any powers and a weak constitution at first, so while it's easy your journey to be a master vampire is far from over.
Vampire Levels and Perks
The Vampires in this Game Pack level up as their abilities are used and they study the history and secrets of Vampires. As you raise in rank, you'll gain Power Points that can be expended to purchase new strengths for your Vampire. However, Vampires are not without their weaknesses. You'll have to pick up to five of those as you ascend to Grand Master. Read the Vampire Levels guide for information on leveling up, and check the Vampire Powers and Weaknesses guide for info on using and abusing the powers you can select as a vampire. Vampires' perks can be reset using a reconfiguration potion that is available at high levels of the Vampire Lore skill.
Vampire Abilities
All Vampires can compel Sims to allow them to drink, but other than that the two main abilities Vampires possess are hibernate and dark meditation. Dark meditation allows Vampires to regenerate energy where ever they are, and it is pretty effective. Perhaps more so than sleeping in a +10 comfort bed. They can also hibernate, which freezes all their needs while they sleep. You'll need to wake them up manually. Other than these, vampires can spar each other to gain experience (a friendly interaction) and will find the ability to learn from other higher-level vampires, or pass on knowledge of vampirism to lower level vampires under the Vampire social menu. All other vampire abilities are unlocked by leveling up and purchasing the powers. Discussion of the powers' usefulness is found on the page linked above.
Dark Form
The alternative look for your Vampire, Dark Form, can be used at any time willingly, and may appear when a Vampire is using their abilities or feeding. Selecting this form manually will make your Vampire more likely to use their abilities on other Sims. It is worth noting that this affects the game AI in that way, because encountering a vampire using dark form and engaging with them may make you a tasty target! Players can customize the look of their dark form easily by clicking the icon in the bottom left of Create-a-Sim after using a dresser or wardrobe.
WooHoo as a Vampire & Vampire Babies
Explore My Mods! Color Picker for Builders, Seasons Tuner, Dine Out Reloaded and a Gameplay Overhaul! Like other modders, I've been working to make The Sims 4 a better game. Check out my many mods here!
Two Vampires who both have the ability to transform can opt to Woohoo as bats!
Vampire babies do exist, in the sense that a vampire parent can pass on their 'gift' to the baby. However, any noticeable impact does not happen until the vampire has grown up to Teen. High level vampires may produce offspring that start with a few extra 'vampire levels'. Two Vampires who both have the ability to transform into bats will find 'Woohoo as Bats' and 'Try for Baby as Bats' under the romance menu when the conversation is steamy enough. When they Woohoo as bats, they can do it right there on the spot. Vampires can also Woohoo in a coffin if they are so inclined, but so too can normal Sims.
Vampire Needs: Differences vs Sims
When a Sim transforms into a Vampire (at Teen onward) the Hunger and Bladder needs are replaced by the 'Thirst' motive, which must be satisfied by feeding. Vampires that get too thirsty may enrage and seek out a nearby Sim to drink some blood. Vampires also have 'Vampire Energy', a bar which runs across the top of the needs panel, which is a resource that can be used for Vampire Powers, sun exposure, and staying awake long hours.
Vampire Thirst
Vampires need Plasma, aka cells that are in blood, in order to satisfy the Thirst need. Low Thirst will not kill a Vampire, so you can be a good Vampire that does not drink blood from others, like Edward from Twilight. Plasma comes from a few sources: Sims, Plasma Fruit, and Plasma Packs. Becoming too thirsty will greatly impact your ability to do anything as a Vampire, the uncomfortable moodlet can be so bad as to be +40, overriding all other emotions. Even at parched it is +3 and quite strong.
Having a morning snack, still in her robe. The feed interaction isn't so important that you need to run out, thirst is to be managed to prevent enraging, and not something that can kill your Sim.
Feeding on Sims
Options for feeding are found under the Vampire social menu. Feeding from Sims happens in a couple of different ways. First, you can ask nicely if they'd give you a drink of blood. This requires at least a little friendship with the Sim for the prey to be willing. Secondly, you can use your Vampire powers to compel the Sim and get them to submit, providing Plasma in either small or large amounts. Take a lot and the Sim may collapse. Other Sims around may react negatively to your Sim feeding, which can harm relationships. While you can ask to drink from the Sim repeatedly, use of the Vampire Powers to feed has a two hour cooldown. If you didn't get to feed, you may have to back off for a bit or else schmooze with the Sim and hope they'll reconsider. In some situations, I'd recommend they ask then feed aggressively if they decline.
With the Eternally Welcome perk, you can unlock Sims' doors and go in at night without permission.
Vampires can absolutely break into homes with the Eternally Welcome Perk (Fledgling) which lets you go through doors. A Kleptomaniac Vampire might not be an awful idea! You cannot feed from Sims that are sleeping, but you can certainly make them feel unwell by getting them out of bed for a drink after midnight. Feeding from Sims with a normal drink gives a +1 Happy moodlet for 6 hours, while a deep drink will give them a +2 for 8 straight hours - a highly potent mood booster.
Plasma Fruit and Plasma Packs
Drinking from a Sim drains their energy. They're likely to pass out after a deep drink, regardless of how much they had before. Being the victim of this can really suck the fun out of your day.
Plasma Fruit can be grown and re-planted. An easy to find Plasma Fruit is outside the fencing behind the largest mansion in Forgotten Hollow. Harvest this and grow a Plasma Fruit Tree to get a never-ending supply of fruits, which will let you avoid feeding on Sims. Plasma Fruit can be used in certain cooking recipes, which makes the food palatable to vampires. Plasma Packs are ordered at the computer once you have achieved level 3 in the Vampire Lore Skill. They can be crafted from fish and frogs with Vampire Lore Level 4
Sunlight Death & Garlic
Sun will kill vampires in this Game Pack.
Vampires are weak to sunlight. Being out in the sun will drain their energy and put a negative moodlet on them that grows in power as their energy drains. Get to 0 energy, and your Sim will burst into flames and die! In order to prevent this, you can get indoors or at least escape to a very shady area such as in the corner on a porch/under some sort of structure. Having the ability to travel as a bat or teleport in mist form greatly reduces the danger. Keep an eye on the clock to make this exposure less dangerous. Perks can reduce the effects of the sun on your vampire.
Garlic hung on the wall to the left. Sims can be about this close before garlic will begin to affect them.
Vampires are also weak to garlic. Larger quantities of garlic, such as wreaths made of it via the Vampire Lore skill are more potent and have a larger range. Being near it causes them to be affected by the aura of its stench. It starts with a small uncomfortable moodlet, but persists and grows in power to become +3 for as long as they're in the aura, and several hours after. The longer they're around it, the worse they will feel. Drinking plasma while under the effects of this moodlet is impossible, so avoid garlic if your Vampire is thirsty!
Vampire Hunters
Vampire hunters are in the game code, though I haven't yet encountered one. Their purpose is to attempt to cure vampirism, so they may take powers away. This could be good reason to take the Vampiric Strength buff, as you might not want to lose a fight to someone who wants to take your immortality (but not your life). It is likely a bigger issue as your Vampire grows in power and my own experience with the game is a very limited sample size. It is worth noting that this is programmed into the game, I'll write more on it when I learn more!
Curing Vampire
In order to cure Vampirism, simply level up the Vampire Lore skill and come up with 10 garlic, plasma fruit, and wolfsbane. This potent concoction that can be created can be used on another Sim to take their powers. I suspect this is what Vampire Hunters will use to strip vampires of their power.

I have info regarding the Vampire pack, if there are any who are interested. Vampire Hunters do not exist. At all. I've already made over five Vampire families, got them each to Grand Masters, and have not once had anyone try to slay them. I even tried becoming enemies with every human Sim, yet they were never slayed. So in order for Vampire Hunting to be a thing, YOU have to do it. NPCs do not have this ability, because it would be very odd to see an NPC with no Vampire Lore being able to throw a Cure onto you even when they cannot make it themselves. Hopefully in the future there will be an update to add actual legit Hunters into the game, Sims who are special NPCs with master Vampire Lore skill, but currently there are none. I'm betting they will be some time soon, though, since they are in the programming. Probably going to be a free update, like Toddlers and Pools were.
Remove all the garlic plants and items made of garlic (the wreaths and braids etc) and the moodlet should start counting down. Also you could take your vampire to another lot, one that is garlic free, and let the moodlet countdown happen there.
The problem I'm having at the moment is that vampires keep coming to the house at night and waking my sims up and it's been a real problem for me! I know you can use garlic wreaths to stop them from coming but my house it modern and sleek and adding a garlic wreath on the front door will look really weird and out of place! Is there a cheat or mod I can use to stop this from happening?
You could also plant garlic in the small pots and have those near the front door. Might not look too out of place. Not sure about mods, maybe google 'the sims 4 vamp mods' and see what you come up with. I like the game-play surrounding vamps so I haven't actually bothered to check out any mods yet. I know tanja1986 has created some mods especially for vamps so maybe google that too. Modthesims is another site to check on.
I wasn't sure if anyone else has noticed this or not (as Vampires cannot simply 'die' in game unless they are left in the sun too long), but do the Vamps have ghosts? Only two of my Vamps have died, both were accidents due to sun exposure and thinking I hit pause when I didn't- but neither Vamp has sprouted a ghost thus far, and it's been several Sim weeks. I was going to bring them back via Ambrosia, but it seems Vampires may not have spirits- either that or it takes their ghosts a LOT longer to start showing up than it does for human Sims.
There are definitely vampire ghosts. If you have an urn for them that still says their names when you hover your mouse over them then there still is a chance for their ghosts to return. If the urns have no names then unfortunately this means that the ghosts have been culled which happens when your game reaches maximum sims allowed in the save file.
My vampire created in cas still gets hungry for food. This is seperate from thirst. I do run a lot of mods in my game and cc too but I dont much care to play without them. Has anyone else seen this? I am thinking about letting him starve to death but Im afraid he will actually die. Right now I have cheated to give him hardly hungry which does not seem to reduce thirst. He is living on milk and orange juice. It's a bit of a nuisance as i gave him the withered stomach weakness. Any thoughts? He has no hunger bar but I get negative buffs for hunger and hunger thoughts and animations.
As it turns out this is a known bug, with most effected sims getting negative buffs for hungry and tired. I tried the reccomended fix at the Sims Forum, but it did not work. Then I tried the bugfix at Mod the Sims. That did work. I strongly reccomend adding the bugfix to your game whether you have an effected sim or not as your game could develop this problem at any time
My Sim should be a vampire by now. I had her ask him to turn her after she befriended. It went just as you described. Finally, she received 3 plasma packs in her inventory, that was a few days ago Then Vlad died. It wasn't due to the sun. If the vampire that turned you dies before you turn do you not turn?
I really don't know! Does your sims still have the moodlets indicating she is changing into a vamp? If she doesn't then I guess your only option is to get her bitten again by another vamp.
It is a known issue that purchasing the Dine Out game pack will bug the Vampires game pack, restoring the bladder need to vampires. It will not be visible in the motives, but it will decrease, causing your vampire to need to use the restroom, get debuffs for bladder, and bladder failure. If you have Always Clean vampire power, bathing will not refill hygiene motive after bladder failure.
I have all the DLC to date and do not have this bug. Bugs do not always affect every game file either so if you are experiencing this bug in one game chances are that a new game save file will not experience this. Deleting the localthumbcache.package file after each play session helps too. There is a work around for this that involves using cheats: enable testingcheats on then copy and paste traits.remove_trait trait_OccultVampire (this will instantly turn your Sim into a human) Next copy and paste traits.equip_trait trait_OccultVampire (this will instantly turn your Sim back into a vampire) you will remain at the rank you were previously at and you will keep all of your Vampiric Power Points. Once your Sim returns to the Vampire state, your needs will be corrected and you will no longer have human moodlets!
I have the want to "go for a flight" - anyone know how? I've tried just flying from spot to spot but it's not working. Also, can't seem to woohoo or try for a baby as a bat.
For some reason this whim doesn't always register. It is usually only worth 10 points anyway so i just cancel it. Having your sim 'fly here as a bat' should fulfill the whim when it works. Both vampires need to have the bat flight skill unlocked and enabled for bat woohoo.
"Vampires need Plasma, aka cells that are in blood" I just wanted to point this out, plasma is the liquid in blood that the red, white, and platelet cells flow through. Plasma is everything but the cells. Also I believe that they only call it plasma as a euphemism so they can keep the Teen rating.
I have a question, if I buy the vampire creation power and turn other sims, will they count as children and visible in the family tree? My vampire is born from normal human sims (on a dark ley line lot trait) and I don't want to mess the family tree up if I turn many sims...
They will not be on the family tree, they will be counted as 'Offspring' which is a new sort of relationship category for sims that a vampire has turned. The sim that did the turning will be their Master.
Okay this is a ridiculous thing to ask about, I'm sure, but there's a chair that came with this expansion called "Framed Living Room Chair." When I click on it, with both vampire and human sims, I can get the option for "nap," but no matter where I put it on my lot I can't get them to actually take a nap in this chair. They give me the X-ed out footprints thought bubble no matter where they are in relation to the chair or where the chair itself is located. I was honestly just curious to see what the animation would look like but now it's genuinely frustrating me that I can't get this chair to function. Is there something I'm missing? Is it supposed to come in conjunction with another item? Thanks ahead of time for anyone who can help me figure this out.
I think it is just a bugged animation as some of my households get the option to 'nap' in the chair and yet others do not. Even those households that get the option can not ever actually take a nap in the chair, nor a disco nap either.
I created a female vampire in CAS and then I created her a toddler. The toddler had obviously vampire genes, and when he aged to teenager, he became a vampire and has powers and needs like a vampire and all, except he ages like a regular sim. Does anyone know how to fix it?
"After a short time, a popup text message will appear informing you that it takes a few days to transform." What exactly does this message say? I can read the text from a vampire, but the answer of my sim is cut and I can't see more than half of it, so annoying!
Hi, I'm Macy and I am having an issue right now. So, my two vampire sims had a baby, (they had dark baby lot trait, unsure of the name) and the baby aged until teen. The teen (Mackenzie) has a normal needs bar, no vampire energy or anything. Mack has no fangs, cannot drink plasma out of Sims, and does not appear to be a vampire as she cannot unlock powers or anything. (No mods installed)Please help, Macy J
For whatever reason Mackenzie isn't a vampire. Easiest solution is get another vampire to turn her I guess. Could be a mod that has caused this issue if you use any. Check they are all up to date for the current game build (patch) you are using. Maybe having the Dark Ley Lines lot trait somehow caused the issue, as 2 vampire parents should always have a vampire child but with the DLL lot trait it is still just a roll of the dice chance.
Hmm... her needs bar has the vamp icon but she can't do anything. The trait's there too. I tried editing her in CAS and saw her dark form. I edited it and clicked play. She can't enter her dark form. Hmm. Also, if it helps, her parents had another kid (a child who has the trait, the icon, her fathers eyes, and cannot talk about vampires)
No, the cheats codes only work with the code you have in your game. So if you don't have the pack (code) then there is nothing to cheat with. Look out for sales as TS4 has so many sales that you are bound to be able to pick up the Vampires pack very cheaply.
I've notice that vampire interactions don't work on the wait staff in Chez llama, with an info bubble saying "This sim is controlled by forces too great for a vampire to meddle in" weird.
It is there to stop us interfering with required sims on some community lots/venues and therefore 'breaking' the game. Same thing happens if your vampire sim tries to mess with the Grim Reaper.
Hello, I would like to ask a question, can a vampire sim drink from their own normal sim relatives or daughters/sons or even husband/wife? I have a family with two vampires but currently the other one is still a child and my other vampire needs to feed (note: my game is laggy trying to go to a nightclub or anywhere else is hard so sadly im stuck in this house and there's no other people nearby. Can they also drink from children?
Vampires can not drink from children but can drink from teens and upwards. Vampires can drink from their own spouses or teen> children as long as they are normal sims or aliens. I actually always marry my vamp to a normal sim so that they have an easy source of food. The spouses never mind being drunken from forcefully either! lol So I always use the Compel for a Deep Drink interaction so my vamp becomes full and their relationship takes no loss.
So guys I just wanted to say, for all those asking, I have adopted a Vampire child and an Alien child. It is possible for you to adopt occults, but just keep trying. It's a 2.58% chance that you'll see the occult in adoption!
For the Record, since no one can seem to give a Yes or No answer to the "Hardly Hungry" issue, I just tested it myself, just now. No, Hardly Hungry does not affect thirst levels for vampire. My thirst level went down the same amount in the same amount of time.
Don't know, maybe just bad RNG luck, my vamps friends always say yes. Try deleting the localthumbcache.package from your TheSims 4 folder and see if that makes a difference. Also make sure you are asking to drink inside unless it is night time - also there are different 'night times' for different worlds so if in doubt, ask inside.
There is a cool down which resets each time you ask so leave it a sim day or two and try again inside a building. It might be a new game-bug but really difficult to tell as I can't recreate this as I'm still not having this difficulty in my own games.
So I might have accidentally cloned a vampire? I was lurking outside the toilet in the park in Forgotten Hollow waiting for the sim I was stalking to come out (as you do) and I spot Vlad in the road on the other side of the park. I bat-ported over to him (needed to spar with 3 vampires for aspiration) but he runs off after "hi, how's your day? Bat-ported back, and arrive stood next to me in a different outfit (?!). Said hello to break the awkward silence, then went home confused. Can chat to them on the PC (has same name) and have bumped into them out and about a few times but they never hang around long. Weird?
Update: there are currently 3 of the same sim in different outfits in the park. Maybe I should stop using bat-port. I guess I could go to manage worlds and delete all the copies, but for the moment I want to see where this goes. Might move them all in together, could be funny.
This can happen a few ways, by starting to place a sim into the world and then cancelling the move into home action: this places them in the 'Not In World' category. Then you place another - thinking you are still placing the first sim etc. But yeah, you can just delete any sims you don't want in Manage Households

I have much more to come, since you can actually write a few guides about this pack!
Calling all Blender Users
Blender has been incredibly useful in video production, so I made my own Physics and Simulation Improvement Addon that lumps a ton of unique tools into one compact interface.
Sims 4 Snowy Escape
The Sims 4 Snowy Escape launches November 13, 2020 and my coverage has started. Until I get my review ready, you can learn about the following:
There is a new platform tool in The Sims 4. There's also a new Sentiments system, but it'll take some time to create a guide to that. Players can also use rental lots in any world now by changing lot types of builds in manage worlds.
Best Mods in Sims 4
I've created a massive List of The Best Mods in The Sims 4 that should be very helpful to new players and those who have not yet explored modding and how much it can do for your gameplay.
Readers who use adblock or those who'd like to thank me for my efforts can now pledge $1/$5 monthly via Patreon. This helps a lot with server costs and provides some stability for my business.
I now have a guide page to Tiny Living Stuff where you can learn about Murphy Beds, the new death, as well as the lot bonuses you'll receive if you manage to keep the size of your lot down with this new pack's Tiny Home Lot Type.

You can also add a 'me too' on the bug report thread. Vampire with human needs bug report
Both vampires need to have the bat flight skill unlocked and enabled for bat woohoo.
