The Sims 4 Seasons
Winter, Spring, Summer and Fall Expansion Features
The Sims 4 Seasons released June 22, 2018. This new pack incorporates weather and seasonal changes to all existing worlds. With that, you also get holidays and a functional calendar year. In this guide to the features in the Expansion, we'll link you to more detailed guides and summarize the new additions and changes to gardening.
Seasons Guides - Progress So Far
You'll find a rundown of the major content in seasons below. Development is moving slowly, as I have to do skill gains the old fashioned way due to broken cheats. Here is what's released so far:
Click to Enlarge. Holiday lights are in the Expansion, with decorations for spring, summer, fall, and winter.
Seasons comes with the expected Spring, Summer, Fall and Winter. Seasons does not ship with a new world, but rather impacts all existing Sims 4 worlds, including places like Granite Falls and Salvadorada. Each world has its own weather patterns. It may thunderstorm or rain in the spring, summer and fall, and snow in the winter or early spring. Worlds like Oasis Springs are warm and mild in the winter, while scorching in the Summer. As time passes, the world gradually transitions into each season, weather growing cooler as mid fall phases into winter. Players are able to choose the duration of seasons through the game options menu. You can select 7, 14, or 28 days seasons.
With seasons, naturally you get temperature changes. It's hot in the summer and cold in the winter just as you'd expect, and those things will effect Sims to a large degree.
Click to Enlarge. All four seasons have their own weather, so Sims will want to bundle up or chill out.
Temperature
Temperature matters in The Sims 4 Seasons. To help with preparing for what awaits them outside that day, Sims can check the weather channel or simply mouse over the temperature and weather interface at the bottom of the screen. The calendar located in the bottom left will show you a forecast for the next seven days.
While exposed to uncomfortable temperatures, Sims can overheat or get too cold. Proper clothing can help a lot with this, but there's also temperature control inside the home and ways to cool off or warm up. Yes, the Expansion comes with a thermostat, and it's possible to mishandle it (like by cranking the heat in the Summer). A Sim getting too hot can have deadly consequences, so this system is also realistic and extreme situations can result in a Sim's demise. Preparedness is key!
Players can choose whether the worlds generate strong thunderstorms and blizzards occasionally, or if these never develop leaving Sims with tame rain and snow. Via the options menu, you can also select whether or not temperature makes an impact on Sims. Do this if you find it too annoying not being able to leave the house in a world with a more extreme summer or winter. Learn more about the weather in Seasons.

Weather Machine
The Expansion, of course, comes with a weather machine that lets you do just about anything to the weather for a day. Look to the Weather Machine Guide for more detailed information. Rain coming on your Saturday party when everyone's ready to have fun? Change it to a sunny mild day. It can also be used for diabolical purposes, like bringing in a blizzard in the middle of the summer when no one is prepared. More powerful options like changing the current season are also available. While you purchase the weather machine from buy mode (and don't build it yourself) there are over half a dozen upgrades available that improve its reliability and functionality.
Patchy the Straw Man
The Sims 4 Seasons features a Scarecrow named Patchy who you can buy and place on your lot. Befriend him, and he'll come to life and work in your garden. If you check his pockets, he may have some useful seeds. Check the guide to learn about all of his abilities and cooldowns. View the video guide above or visit the text guide to learn more.
Activities & Holidays in Seasons
From yard work to water balloon fights, the Expansion's trailer showed a busy world filled with building snowmen, playing in sprinklers, and dodging lightning bolts. With a fully functional calendar for event planning, there are several premade holidays - Lovefest (Valentine's Day), Harvestfest (Thanksgiving/Halloween), Winterfest (Christmas/Hanukkah) and New Year's. The Expansion's seasonal cycle and calendar produce a simulated year for Sims. What is more, Sim families can also make up their own holidays that repeat every year. Get together and do a polar bear dip or even play video games. You choose the activities that take place at the celebration and can invite others. The calendar also shows who is available when, so you can select a time to celebrate when a dear friend isn't going to be at work.
I'm happy to report that there is integration with other Expansion Packs and DLC. For example - and as we had hoped - shoveling snow and raking leaves can help Teens develop responsibility from the Parenthood Game Pack. Players who own The Sims 4 Pets will find their furry friends are also effected by the temperature and weather, with new interactions with snow and rain puddles. So far the team has been good about incorporating Get Together's Clubs into each Expansion, and Seasons is no exception. Furthermore, the Get to Work businesses can be used with our next major feature: The gardening career.
A guide to spring in Seasons. Includes information on The Sims 4's version of Easter with the Flower Bunny and Love Day (Valentine's Day). Covers springtime activities and the making of custom holidays.

Click to Enlarge. Sims can make money with the new Gardening Career Expansion feature
At long last, there is a gardening-related career, and one that allows you to choose when you'd like to work from home (similar to those brought about by City Living. The Career branches at around halfway, allowing you to choose whether you'll be a Florist or Botanist. You can create a floral shop by incorporating with Get to Work, and sell your arrangements for a living. This is a fairly interesting idea, though of course it is no different from selling paintings as an artist. The Botanist branch is more focused on gardening itself, and a nice addition padding to your gardening income though there's nothing particularly special about it.
Beekeeping
Sims can also do beekeeping, which allows them access to special interactions provided by bees, along with honey. Beekeeping acts as a passive money maker that also provides a boost to Gardening. Bees pollinate plants nearby, providing a passive fertilizer effect that stacks with regular fertilizer. See the above video to learn all about this new feature - I'll write a text-based guide to it soon, now that I know everything.
New Skill: Flower Arranging
Sims don't need to take the floral designer branch of the new gardening career in order to benefit from the new violets are blue flower arranging table, available for $250 in Buy Mode. They're able to begin leveling this skill regardless of that track though it's possible they may miss out on some nice unlocks from Career progress. The jury is still out on that one. Here's a guide to the new Flower Arranging skill.
Scouting is a new activity for Children and Teens in The Sims 4 Seasons. This new after school job is unpaid, but offers a ton of skill experience via the Scouting Aptitude reward trait you receive should you max out the 'career'.
New Deaths
There are multiple new deaths associated with Seasons. Sims can, of course, be struck by lightning if they are outside during a powerful thunderstorm. You can also overheat if there's a heat wave and your Sim isn't wearing cool weather clothing, while the opposite is also true. We're still looking to report on the last death which may be related to the gardening career, though it may simply be aging up prematurely via a scent the florist can create.
Umbrellas in Seasons
While I covered this on the weather page, it's worth noting here because a lot of people will have trouble figuring out how to find an umbrella. Umbrellas are categorized under Appliances > Misc. You can also do a text search for it and look for the 'Umbri Umbrella Rack'. Have each of your Sims claim an umbrella and they'll keep it, so long as you don't put it back. The umbrella doesn't appear in your inventory at all. The Sim is just flagged as having one. They'll use them automatically any time there's precipitation, though the umbrella can be broken in strong thunderstorms they seem to automatically replace them. Even doing something like gardening in the rain is possible with an umbrella, as the Sim will whip it out between animations without actually getting wet.

Activities and Features

Here's a list of things we see in the trailer. I'll add to it over the next month, so check back weekly to see if there's any new info!
Rain, Thunderstorms, Snow - Hopefully also sweltering heat and bitter cold. Let's make those Sims uncomfortable.
Control the Thermostat - Sims have climate control indoors, but should watch their body temperature as well. Dress appropriately for the outdoors.
Weather Channel - Sims can check the weather to know what the day has in store for them.
Umbrellas, Scarves, Winter Clothing - Looks like lots of clothing for the various seasons.
Holidays - Seems like Easter, Thanksgiving, Christmas, New Year's at minimum. I'm sure these are de-religionized to spring festival and winter festival or something like that.
Holiday Decorations - for all four holidays
More Holiday Decorations - This is also in the home, such as Christmas trees and even decor for new year's parties.
Holiday Parties - We see new year's celebration, Christmas gift passing, thanksgiving feast and Easter bunnies.
Presents!
Snowmen
Ice Skating
Roller Skating
Swing Sets
Kids' Pools
Sprinklers
Scarecrows - talking ones that can help with gardening
Some kinda Winter King getup that is like Santa?
Jumping in puddles
Leaf piles to jump in
Water Balloon Fights
Snowball Fights
Raking Leaves
Shoveling Snow
Lightning strikes - A Sim is struck by lightning in the trailer, but uses it to make a Kamehameha. Lightning can reportedly kill Sims, so a new death type.
We now have a Youtube Channel with over 50 guides in video format to go along with the huge site I've already created. Check it out and consider subscribing if you like my style.

I actually got my umbrella (the black one, no idea yet whether there are other variations as I haven't checked the umbrella stand) by just clicking my sim > open umbrella. The umbrella is just there without any purchase made.
If you are playing a townie then they automatically get allocated a black umbrella. To see the other color and pattern options place the umbrella stand (misc objects in buy mode) and click it. Your sims can put away existing umbrella, take a new one and then choose from the pop up menu of options.
I've come across three new plants that have been added with Seasons as well. Holy Bell Pepper and Green Pea. Got them all through purchasing starter packs. Holy was in the flower starter and Peppers/Green Peas were in veggie one.
Gifting works on items in a sims personal inventory, so anything that you can not drag/place in a sims personal inventory can not be gifted. Have the item in the givers inventory -click on the sim you want to give it to and click Give Gift' under friendly socials. Your inventory menu will pop up -choose the item and click on it to give it to the other sim.
I noticed that too! Does anyone have any answers/fixes to this? I've tried some other cheats, and the skills-cheat (for example stats.set_skill_level Major_Mischief 10) is the only one that I have found so far that does not work.. I haven't tried the toddle/child skills yet, so I don't know if they work.
Most cheats are currently out of action, just have to do it the slow way. Have to wait for the patch to come out to see what cheats are going to be fixed. it's currently a well known problem.
Yes, in all worlds seasonal items will attempt to spawn. They can also be found in the build/buy menu but if there is space then seasonal activities and vendors will now just appear in the world on the uneditable bits for your sims to use. This is neat because before this the devs had said they were unable to change the worlds in any way. Could lead to some exciting changes in the future maybe -who knows!
There is a special box of decorations that when you click on it all the options for decor come up. "The Attic Stack Decoration Box" - search for it in the search bar if you can't find it under the 'decorations' filter.
Children and teens can join the Scouting Career, they have badges to earn which they get from doing certain activities and they check the progress towards each badge on this board. Guide on this coming soon.
Just found something interesting with lightning. It can leave behind collectables. So far I've gotten two metals (both rare) and a crystal. I was unsure on the first two strikes, but when the third strike (separate storm) hit my sims house and left a scorch mark and a rare metal on the not-totaly-built-yet roof, I was certain.
Something weird happened. It was summer, cool temperature. My child sim was playing with his parents outside, throwing water balloons at them when suddenly he got pale. He was freezing to death! In cool temperature, summer! He didn't get uncomfortable first, it was a sudden freezing state. Not even with warm clothes he got better. He had to return home to get back to normal. At first, I thought it was a bug, but few minutes later, when he was inside the house, he showed fever symptoms. Is it possible that diseases are affected to the weather?
hi, just like to know if there the 101* glitch is on season. 1 room very closed to outdoor (verified 3 time), 4 wall and roof (repeat, verified a lot time), get the state how is out, i mean, when sims enter the room and is raining they use umbrella (ok is funny, but annoyng). the room have window (not open), and 2 door (1 go on balcony but is not the arched door).
So, my sim made a baby with King Winter!! And the child got a special personality trait. "King Winter's baby". Anyone who knows what abilities that will give?
I wasn't sure where to say this but you don't have to put the money tree into your inventory to get more seeds. My sim was able to take a cutting from the tree and graft it onto another plant so now I can harvest that plant to get seeds. Although I do have some CC in my game so I'm not sure if that would affect it or not.
I think the mechanics of the Money Tree was altered in the patch after launch because at first you could not take cuttings from it nor even harvest it. Now you can harvest it when harvesting in a group of other plants or after placing it into your sims Household Inventory it acts like all the other plants do - meaning harvesting, grafting and so on.
They are: Battle Royale (Neighborhood Brawl), Discount Day, Lottery, Night on the Town, Pirate Day, Prank Day, Skill Day, TV Premiere, Harvestfest, Love Day, New Years and Winterfest.
hi, question just for knowing it. on the Night on the Town holiday, also restaurant make free food for that day? and if we own restaurant or food shop, our client don't pay us?
Good question. I don't know but I would assume no. If you own a restaurant it should function as normal but if you took your controlled sim there to order a meal it should be free on that day.
Do sims that you don't play as change clothes automatically when the seasons change. Like not the sims that you can control but the other auto-generated sims in the world. For example, instead of always seeing them in their same outfit, when it rains do they wear a rain jacket or something?
Yes, NPC sims will auto change into their cold and hot weather clothing category when the appropriate weather is occurring. Sadly unless you have changed these categories in CAS/Manage Households some of the outfits will look pretty terrible.
I have a question I see that the weather is across all DLC etc. But for the events like Halloween, winter etc do you have to put up a ice rink etc or does it automatically do it when the holiday comes. Thanks new to sims seasons 4
We now know placing certain things outdoors when its raining/thundering will break them, does this apply to backyard stuff pack stuff? (so much stuff haha) all I bloody want is a weather resistant speaker so I can have garden parties without having to move them in and out (lazy yes I own it ha) and surely the plumbot box speaker in backyard stuff should be allowed, wait for it... in the bloody backyard! I haven't actually tried it yet but I will do and let you guys know, in the meantime if you can let me know that would be great
Sadly all electronics will break in the rain, nothing is immune as such. Putting them under the over-hang of the eves of a roof will help, but isn't 100%. If you put a roof on your outdoor area this will stop the electronics from breaking, i.e. a covered porch
Are there more things that can't be done or can only can be done in specific seasons? Like going frog hunting in autumn (..I think that was the season..) and not being able to fish in winter..?

A Deeper Game
The past month, I've spent every day tinkering The Sims 4, making quality of life improvements, gameplay changes, and new difficulty settings for the game. If you'd like to learn more about my project, visit the post on Patreon where you can download it now.
I have much more to come, since you can actually write a few guides about this pack!
Calling all Blender Users
Blender has been incredibly useful in video production, so I made my own Physics and Simulation Improvement Addon that lumps a ton of unique tools into one compact interface.
Sims 4 Snowy Escape
The Sims 4 Snowy Escape launches November 13, 2020 and my coverage has started. Until I get my review ready, you can learn about the following:
There is a new platform tool in The Sims 4. There's also a new Sentiments system, but it'll take some time to create a guide to that. Players can also use rental lots in any world now by changing lot types of builds in manage worlds.
Best Mods in Sims 4
I've created a massive List of The Best Mods in The Sims 4 that should be very helpful to new players and those who have not yet explored modding and how much it can do for your gameplay.
Readers who use adblock or those who'd like to thank me for my efforts can now pledge $1/$5 monthly via Patreon. This helps a lot with server costs and provides some stability for my business.
I now have a guide page to Tiny Living Stuff where you can learn about Murphy Beds, the new death, as well as the lot bonuses you'll receive if you manage to keep the size of your lot down with this new pack's Tiny Home Lot Type.
Let's Play Playlist
New I now have a guide to Making Super Sims in The Sims 4. Look for a text version within the next 72h. It won't have THAT much more info but it will help out as a checklist.
This was inspired by a series, "Let's Play a Super Sim" in which I start at toddler and gradually take on the major bonuses. Here's a link to each part for people who are interested. You can also see the Let's Play as a Playlist on Youtube.
The Sims 4 Discover University has been announced for November 15 for PC/Mac and December 17 for Xbox and Playstation 4 consoles. Click to learn more about the pack, see my summary of the livestream or read our FAQs below.
