Curious - What happens as the townies age up?
« on: April 10, 2012, 05:13:59 PM »
As the story progresses, I can see young children becoming adults.  I am curious in how it all works.

When my sim's children age up to YA, am I right in assuming that they will marry the offspring of the towines who were kids when I started?  Leighton S (not sure of last name) who has a son named Sam.  Sam was a toddler when I started, he is now, with my children at  the age of toddler definitely a child, possibly a teen.
Would he, by the time they become teens, be a YA, or even have advanced to Adult?
Is it set up that townies have children who will then marry my sim children?

Is it programed so that certain townie sims marry and have certain children, such as Sam and another townie becoming a couple and they have three kids, two boys and a girl? Who age up, to have children of their own and on and on it goes?

I had read somewhere of how the orginal townies have children but the babies always stay babies and yet townies die, which would create a major problem.  It may not have meant this town, or sims game, but had me wondering.  Since this is my first sims game I have no idea of what happens, so how does this progress?

yes, they do age up, just like your own sim(s). And the townies keep age up everytime (unless you dont want them to) 'till they all dead. And that's worse

P.s: you can set age freeze at the "Option Menu", go to "Game Option", you'll see the "Enable Aging" checkbook, unclick it and then your townies won't age up, including your sims.

In my games, the babies of townies always grow up, just like the other townies.  Somtimes, I will change households, just to see how the family is doing.  As far as I know, they progress just like your own sims do, your just not playing them. :)

They're not programmed to end up with certain Sims all the time. That would be boring and predictable. I've seen one man marry different women in each game.
And the babies are there so the town doesn't die out on you. Sims is a generational game - not much point in reproduction if there's nobody to reproduce with, is there? ;)

Edit: That last point is either Aging Off or Story Progression Disabled, I'm not sure which.

I wish I could remember where I read of how townies will die off, but the babies stay babies.
That didn't make much sense to me, if they never grow up, then how can the game continue?  The babies have to reach adulthood and be able o reproduce, or there wouldn't be a game, so it didn't make sense to me.

I don't want to mess with the progression, that would defeat the purpose of what I want, to continue generations, not do a formal dynasty or legacy, but a personal one.

Yeah, that definitely doesn't happen.  Story Progression makes sure everyone grows up, grows old, and dies.  It's random as to who ends up married and having kids.  You'll also find that families move away from town and new ones move in.  The best way to keep up with all that is to read the newspaper daily.  It tells you who's gotten married, who's had a baby, who moved away, and who moved in.

I never read the paper here at home, best use for it has been in raising puppies; shredding it and putting on top of plastic to make easy cleanup.

Guess the ones in Sunset and Riverview will have better uses   ;D

I think it jus keeps going on and on and on.  I think that that is the reason that people can do legacys.  Eventually, even the second generation sims you can barely remember!  I also think that new people are moving in all the time.
