Cannot update The Sims 3
« on: April 09, 2012, 10:16:43 PM »
Hi,

I am having a lot of problems with updating my base game of The Sims 3. I bought it when it first came out (of course, it's an original copy) and just installed it today. But after checking out some blogs and download sites, says they need the latest update of The Sims 3, since it is an old copy, it's version 1.0. So I downloaded version 1.33 from ModTheSims and when it finishes says File not found. ModTheSims has a program that shows what file is missing/corrupt, and says code_version.txt is missing. But it's there, and says that I need to copy it from my copy, I did, still the same error.

I searched everywhere, no help.  :'(

Any ideas?
Thanks!

You shouldn't need to download anything from a third party site. All you need to do is run the game and update it through the launcher.

The program I downloaded just checks my TS3 files. And also, the launcher says I'm fully updated.

Help?

It's been a while since I installed the base game, but I thought that when you install it or any expansion packs, it automatically checks for updates. Perhaps your game is already up to date. What version does it say on the launcher?

As Twinmum said, you shouldn't have needed to download the Patch from a 3rd Party site (ModTheSims).

Try downloading the Patch in this official EA thread. It is official, from EA. Once downloaded (it is huge to download, aroud 900MB if I recall correctly), you double-click it and let the installer do it's thing.

@Seabody

I tried the incremental patch of 1.33, the error I had above shows.

@Twinmum Mine didn't, the launcher says 1.0.615

Help?

Don't use the incremental! That updates a game from 1.32 to 1.33. Use the Culmulative Patch.

Is there an incremental patch for 1.33 at all? If mind saves me there isn't even one; it's only the 950mb weighing cumulative super-patcher. You should download that.

The difference between incremental and cumulative patches is simple. Incremental patches update the game from a one version to the next one. Say, if your game is still at 1.26, you'd need to get the incremental patch to update it to 1.29. Note that you have to choose the correct incremental patch, as they differ for various regional codes. The launcher does exactly that for you, but in order to update the game through the launcher you also need to install and update Origin (a separate EA-supported program/service).

A super-patcher (or a cumulative patch, it's the same thing in essence) will update your game from any version to the most current one and is the same for all regional codes. It's pretty big in size (incremental patches are usually 120-200mb in size, while the cumulative patches are 850-950mb) but if you have a fast internet connection downloading it shouldn't be a problem. Really, it's worth it, since it does all the job for you once you open the file.

I should, however, inform you that the 1.3x super-patches are a bit problematic. For now, it is recommended to patch up differently in order to prevent any issues from occurring. Read about it here.

As for your problem; I think that's connected to the regional codes not matching. Or maybe it's just that you were using incremental instead of cumulative. Anywho, I hope downloading and installing the cumulative super patch will correctly update your game.

So I patch it using the super-patcher even though I have 1.0.615?

You patch it using the super-patcher because you have 1.0.615. It'll take you from 1.0.615 to 1.33.

You could use only incremental patches, but that's quite a long process, and would involve downloading a LOT of patches.

So use the super-patcher. It's easier and faster.

Hi,

So I did patch it using the super-patcher of 1.33. Works great, but after running the games I get a text box for a registration code. But I lost my registration code since my e-mail got hacked. After trying a bunch of randoms, works, and says that code has already been used and has reached it's limit. What do I do now? I should have stayed in 1.0  :'(
