Does deleting memories free up space?
« on: April 05, 2012, 07:52:27 AM »
I've heard that too many memories can take up a lot of space, but I also heard that even if you delete them, the game still has the space for them saved. Does anyone know for sure? Will deleting memories free up some space and help my game run a bit faster (not that it's slow)? Even if it's just a little space, that's good.

Memories do take up a lot of memory (Ironically! :P), so I always delete mine when I have the time. I'm not sure what you mean about the game keeping the space for them, do you mean the little scrapbook each sim has?

No, I mean that even when the memories are deleted, the memory/space they took up still remains used. In other words, as if the memories weren't deleted at all. That's what I've also heard.

Oh. Hmm, I've never heard about that! Can anyone confirm this? I've always noticed that my save files got slightly smaller after deleting memories, and less laggy too if I had had loads of memories.

If I remember right, the one time I tried it my file got slightly smaller too, but it was so insignificant I decided I'd never do it again.  Save files did definitely get a lot bigger when generations came out, though.

My one savefile is in week 3. I've deleted all memories from the start. They haven't travelled yet and it is already 94mb!

Dang.

I'm going to check my file when I get home at four (I'm at school) and see how big it is. I think I'll erase the memories, just to see if has any impact. Two of my sims have 18 pages of memories. Unnecessary!
