Building Contests 2012-Long, April: Renovation or Restoration for a Goth

You must read the Rules and Instructions Thread first, if you haven't already. Updates have been made.

Your Task:
After the death of his parents, young Mortimer Goth is faced with a dilemma – to restore his ancestral home to its original glory or modernize – all in the name of love. Not a love for his family’s past but for his future, a future that hopefully includes one beautiful young Bella. This is where Mortimer needs your help – you are tasked with either restoring the Goth Mansion to its original glory or renovating it into a modernized masterpiece.

Choose the Goth household at the start of a new game and immediately enter Build/Buy mode. You may evict the original household and download the attached Morty/Bella household for picture purposes (they have enough funds to purchase the lot and require Base Game only).

Specifications:
  • Number of Bed Spaces: for at least 2 Sims
  • Budget: 75,000. Note the furnished price in Build/Buy mode (I have 206,526) and add 75,000, that is your limit.
  • Lot Size: 60x60 (Build/Buy on the Goth lot)
  • Other: You may not add, move, or delete any walls from the exterior of the house or garage. You may change windows, doors, fences, wallpapers, landscaping, roof pattern and type, stairs, etc. of the exterior. Anything from Buy Mode may be changed. You may make any desired changes to the interior.

Optional Specifications:
  • Help Mortimer impress Bella Bachelor!

Just a quick question.
When you sell for example a bed that costs about 4500, will that count towards the 75,000 ?

Like the Budget says: check the furnished price of the lot as soon as you start and add 75,000 - this number becomes the new maximum allowed value of the furnished house when you're done. For example, taking my number of 206,526, I add 75,000 and get 281,526, so that becomes the maximum furnished value my entry can be when it's done. This means that I can sell/delete and replace stuff as long as I stay within my new maximum value of 281,526.

So, when you sell the bed valued at 4500, the furnished price of the lot drops by 4500, giving you 4500 more room before you reach the new maximum allowed furnished value.

The only number you need to pay attention to is the furnished value of the lot - it can not go over the value you calculated by adding 75,000 to the original furnished value.

I also received a question about the roof: According to the Specifications, you may change the roof pattern but not the roof type, this means you cannot delete the roof and create a new one.

After receiving further feedback, I'm changing my ruling on the roofs - you are free to delete the roofs and change them, just remember, you cannot delete/move/add any exterior walls.

The rules have been changed to reflect this.

In my mind, pools are part of landscaping. When I say "walls" I mean the "wall tool", building a pool doesn't use the wall tool so feel free to delete/move it, just remember you can't touch the garage walls.

Name: New Goth Manor
Lot Size:  60 x 60
Bedrooms:  2
Bathrooms: 3.5
Cost when placed on old Goth Manor lot (13 Skyborough Blvd): 294,430
Cost when placed on old Goth Manor lot unfurnished: 183,874
Requires expansion/Sims 3 store content:  World Adventures, Late Night, Generations, Pets, Showtime, Ambitions, Outdoor Living Stuff, Town Life Stuff, free vase from WA registration rewards

A completely new beginning for Mortimer, this new Goth Manor is almost nothing like the old Goth Manor.  But within the new streamlined design, Mortimer has held on to some of the family traditions and preferences.

Outside, the Goth family graveyard is still there -- Mortimer would never think of exhuming his dear departed relatives just to re-plant some flowers -- but new landscaping and a new modern fountain make it a lovely place to relax and remeber.  An updated fire pit will keep the traditions of family marshmallow roasts and ghost stories alive, while a new bar and outdoor kitchen, as well as a curtained cabana with fireplace, will make the formerly outdated patio into a great party space for the younger generation.  Mortimer has replaced the old solarium with a new indoor pool and hot tub, and turned the old flower patch into into a modern Zen space, but a flower-covered fountain recalls the colorful exuberance of his mother's old Victorian gardens.

The walls and foundation of the main house have the same exterior layout, but the style is completely modern.  Bella's favorite color of red plays an important role in the decor, as does Mortimer's preferred black.  The ground floor has touches of Asian influence to accent the modern lines, with gold walls adding warmth and light to the darker colors.  The kitchen has all the modern conveniences (including a dishwasher, trashcompactor and self-cleaning stove sure to please a Neat Sim like Bella), plus juice bar, eat-at counter and a breakfast nook overlooking the back garden.  The dining room seats 8 around a stylish glass table, while the living room offers plush seating, a stereo and bookshelves.

Moving upstairs, the bright central loft has sectional seating, a big screen TV, videogames and a chess set.  Doors lead off to the upstairs sun deck, the guest bedroom, guest bath, office and master suite.  The upstairs rooms, expecially the master bedroom, master bath and ambitious Mortimer's office are all modern interpretations of gothic decor.

Continuing upstairs, the artist's studio adjoins a small kitchenette so that Mortimer can pursue his talents uninterrupted.  The highest level has a small patio and telescope for watching the stars.

A New Beginning.
Mortimer Goth wanted to bring the Manor up to date for his future and the following generations. In hope to impress Bella and win her hand in marriage the following work was done to the Manor.
The Manor was restored but with a more colorful palette. Mortimer and Bella’s favorite colors were used in quite a few areas throughout the house.

Main Floor:  It consists of kitchen, 3pc bath room, dining room, living room, and large foyer. The room adjacent to the kitchen has a sitting area for reading or just daydreaming and a hot tub.

Second Floor: It consists of a master bedroom, a nursery and a bedroom that would serve a child or teen, and two full bathrooms with tub and shower.

Third Floor: A loft that has a television, chess table, an exercise room and a 3pc bathroom.

Outside: There is a patio with a cooking area and an oval pool. To the side of the patio there is a children playground, a fire pit and a domino table. Flower beds were added and a few dead trees were replaced with new ones. Fountains were added to the pond.
Follow me, let’s take a tour together.

Renovated Goth Manor
by Decima

Price Furnished: 229,963
Price Unfurnished: 133,934

Content Used: Base game only.

A newly renovated Goth Manor awaits a young Mortimer Goth to take on the next chapter of life. He intends to woo the beautiful Bella and hopefully take her hand in marriage. The house retains it's original look from the outside respectfully keeping in tradition with Mortimer's ancestors. Inside, however, it is modernised into a comfortable luxurious family home. Bella will sure to be impressed with the red colour theme running through much of the house, including heavy usage of red roses in the formal garden, hints of floral prints scattered about as well as a large ensuite with a dressing area and plenty of storage.

There are many places Mortimer can spend time with Bella, be it outside by the pool on their own picnic spot, in the formal gardens or in the specially built entertainment loft with it's own bar, sound system and large flatscreen TV.

Outside the house boasts a double garage, graveyard, pool, BBQ and picnic area, formal gardens and a pond with a beautiful cascading fountain.

On the ground floor there is a large spacious kitchen with all new appliances and a 4 seat table. A luxurious living room with fireplace, thick curtains and cosy rug, perfect for evenings cuddled up with the one you love. The dining room has a large 8 seat dining table and bar, perfect for dinner parties. There is also a bathroom and indoor pool room, with the pool sunken for privacy. Perfect for rainy days or when the Goths don't want too much sun.

Wide stairs lead up to the first floor where the master bedroom is situated. Decorated in dusky hues with a modern, young bedspread it's the perfect room for any new couple. It has a large ensuite with his n' hers sinks, free standing bath and dressing area - perfect for a girl who likes her dresses! There is also a study, guest bedroom with it's own ensuite and a nursery.

On the second floor there is an entertainment suite with TV, games console, stereo, bar and various games. A young person's dream relaxation after a hard work out in the gym, also situated on the second floor. It contains standard gym equipment as well as feature wall mirrors. Another bathroom completes the floor, perfect for your post-workout wash.

Modern Goth Manor

Lot size: 60 x 60
Price furnished: 253587
Price unfurnished: 176901
Content: Base, WA, Amb, Gen, LN, Pets, ST, HELS, TLS, MSS, OLS

Description: Agneza's Creativity Office proudly presents the renewed Goth Manor. We did it on time although we had big problems (all our design plans went destroyed). After changing the outside walls colors to white, we realize that the appearance of the manor reminded us on medierranean style villa, so we decided to modernize it that way. The whole interior is made modern with the prevailing colors black and red, young couple's favourite colors. We believe the young couple will do anything to prolong the Goth parentage, so we prepare some empty rooms for the future offspring. For the present time we furnished on the ground floor a big foyer, kitchen with juice bar, dinning room with beautiful fireplace, library, amusement room with huge TV, chess, domino and pinball, two bathrooms; on the first floor the spacious main bedroom with fireplace, loundry room, two bathrooms; on the third floor there is a summer kitchen with a big terrace for leisure. Outside the house there are two garages, big swimming pool, pond, vegetable garden, playground for children, graveyard - the young Goth won't forget the ancestors.

Name:  Goth Manor Renovation
Lot Size:  6060
Price Furnished:  $281,322
Content:  All EP and SPs, no store content

Description:  This grand old lady had fallen into a bit of disrepair through the years and through the extreme frugality of the previous owners.  Now the heir to this lovely old home, Mortimer Goth, has met the lady of his dreams and wants to provide a home for her that will show case her beauty and make and her dreams come true.

Being young and active, Mortimer and Bella know the value of a place to party and have fun, but also there is a need for peace and relaxation.  The elegant and astounding beautiful landscaping will provide the restful surroundings and the fun areas, patios, decks, party roof and barbecue patio, not to mention gnubb area and fire pit will provide both peaceful times and joyful party times.

Inside an updated kitchen awaits.  To keep fit after all those great meals, a short stint in the gym will keep both Bella and Mortimer in shape.  Mortimer plans on more exercise equipment and a hot tub for the future.

Let's take a look:

Stunning entry!  Note the party area over the patio attached to the garages.

A closer look at the paths leading to the house.  The landscaping is simply gorgeous.

Starting at the very top, Mortimer has set aside a bit of room for his musician friends to come and bang away on their instruments without disturbing anyone else.  He plans on doing more to the rooftop deck with perhaps a stage area for them to practice in.

The next floor down has been just attic storage but is now ready to be transformed into a teens room or play area for kiddies once they come along.  There is a bathroom already in place.  Right now this is just bonus rooms.

Second floor bedrooms and baths.  Note the use of black and red in the master suite and nursery. The master bath has two, private toilet areas.  No waiting!

Currently these are guest rooms but can easily be transformed into rooms for children.

Main floor contains the comfortable and stylish lounge, library/tv room, formal dining room, eat in kitchen, gym and another full bath.

Barbecue patio and stairs leading up to the party deck.  Dance the night away or just have a scrumptious barbecue.  Maybe go for a swim?

A last view of the exterior.  One has to wonder why this was not placed on the road when the house was built, but it is lovely nevertheless.

What?  Grannies can't play games?
I speak perfect Nooblik, (and some Simlish)!

     Mortibelle Manor
Prices:  13 Skyborough Blvd:  Furnished:     $279,826
Unfurnished:$185,983
Unplaced Price:$272,626
Lot Size:  60x60
Content:  Expansions:World Adventures, Ambitions, Late Night, Generations, Pets and Showtime
Stuff Packs:High End Loft, Fast Lane, Outdoor Living Stuff
Store:Should be None

Mortibelle Manor used to be more commonly known as The Goth Manor. However things change all the time and well it was time to dust out those cobwebs! Gunther and Cornelia took off for destinations afar after Mortimers birthday, they left him the house and everything he needed for a new life. Thing is they didn't get him what he really wanted and that was Bella herself... She has so far been reluctant to progress with Mortimer as she has just never liked his house - that's all about to change when she sets her eyes on this beauty!

Ground Floor:

Living Room: With views of the Kitchen and Dining area.

Second Floor:

Main Bedroom: For Morty and Bella...

Upper Floor:

The Roof features a telescope but not much else, it is most likely going to be up to Mortimer and Bella to make the extra additions they would like to this build as our budget reached a max before we could add all the features we had wanted. We hope that Mortimer manages to get the Girl in Red that he wants - we've even included a nursery... should they wish for such a room. We call that room the 'Cassandra Suite'.

House: To Bella with Love, Morty

Bedrooms: 3 + Nursery
Bathrooms: 2.5
Furnished Cost: 249,428
Items: EPs - WA, Amb, LN, Gen, Pets // SPs - OL // Free Store Items - Chair from Explorer's Loot, Picture from In the Dawn of Sims, Picture from Let There be Sims, Happy New Year '11, Statue from Carnivale Celebration.

From the Curb: Mortimer set about reseeding the patchy, weed ridden lawns of the family home and decided to keep the landscaping simple and open. He kept his mother's beloved garden to the right of the front door just as she left it, which you can see in subsequent pictures.

First Floor Plan: Notice the light and bright decor, redone floors, modern kitchen, indoor/outdoor pool, and expanded back deck.

Second Floor Plan: Notice the relocated stairs to the third floor giving space for a large dressing room off the master bedroom where the master bath used to be, complete with a super quite place to relax. Also, note the large nursery and spare bedroom.

Living Room: Although Morty threw out most of the old, out-dated furniture he had his parents' favorite chairs reupholstered and placed by the front windows. New furniture, resurfacing of the fireplace, and a TV give this room a youthful, modern vibe.

Dining Room: The large stone and glass tile table gives this room new life and brings the outdoors in. Large windows look out over the family cemetery that Morty couldn't bring himself to destroy, instead he had it freshened up with new walkways, lights, flowers, fences, and a fountain.

Kitchen: A renovation in this room added all the modern amenities with new counters, appliances, a breakfast bar, eat-in area, and access to the back yard via the new indoor/outdoor pool!

Master Bedroom, Includes En-suite Bath and Dressing Room: Decorated in Morty and Bella's favorite colours, this room offers timeless luxury. Complete with a fireplace, new furniture, renovated en-suite bath, and massive dressing room with full length mirrors and a quiet lounge area!

Nursery: This room will be the delight of any and all future Goth children. It comes complete with Morty's old crib repainted and fresh linens, toys to create joy, fun artwork, and a fully stocked closet.

Guest Bedroom: Calm and serene this room is the perfect place for guests. It includes a seating area and windows on 3 sides for great views of the property.

EDITED: To add story details I didn't have time for earlier and to fix the broken link to the Explorer's Loot set at the Store.
