I've only recently bought the sims 3, since my last copy was lost -.- and I'm JUST now finding out about all the cool stuff you can do. I feel dumb. Right now I have one family in Subset Valley. I have Ricerciew too but I haven't messed with it yet. I've used money cheat with this family, make friends, and make all happy but I'm weening myself off of them. I'm stopping the money cheat altogether with the next generation from this family that I'll play. I haven't chosen which child I'll actively play yet, but out of six, I'll find one somewhere. Lol. Anyways I was just wanting to know how everyone else is about different families and towns. Rather the families are related or otherwise

This may be different from others but i have 2 save files at the moment, 1 in appaloosa plains with 3 weird people (YA blue woman, and YA red man ~Married to each other~, and a blue baby.
I also have a Sunset Valley save where i am making a massive family (grandparents, parents, children, grandchildren, even great grandchildren!) and moving them all in the same town.

Families?  I have probably about 8-10 that I consider "active" (meaning they're somewhat recent and I'm meaning to get back to them at some point), plus about 15 more that are "inactive" (meaning that they're quite a bit older and I'm keeping them in case I want to get back to them at some point).  There are also 3-4 more that I've used to write guide articles, but I don't really intend on playing them again.  I keep them mostly as a record of sorts.

I also have some saves that don't have active families.  These are just houses that I've built and are somewhere between concept stage and complete.  The finished ones I keep for upload purposes, while the incomplete houses I'm saving so I can maybe complete them some day.  There are probably 20 or so of these (most of which aren't finished).

As far as towns go, I have all of the expansions so that gives me 5 to start with, plus I have Riverview and Barnacle Bay that I've downloaded from the Sims Store.  I also have Union Cove installed, but my computer is a bit wimpy and I have trouble playing there (but it is installed).  That gives me a grand total of 8 towns that I can play in.

I have my Legacy and my Dynasty. I try to keep a maximum of two because otherwise I'll never get around to playing all of them and I do stories for both of those so I also have to try and post regular updates.

Interesting topic. Although I had laughed when I've read you where naming Subset Valley. It's Sunset actually. :P

But about the save files I use: yeah, I have a few. Last one I used was purely to place the backgrounds and actors for another set of decoration used in music video I've uploaded to YouTube yesterday.
Another I use to train Supersim and than I have a few with older savefiles.
On another hard drive I have backups of families decided over subfield names after those families ranked in files names after the last date the record was made. Those purely exist for in case something goes wrong.

I have three. One is my self-sim family, one is my family of adopted children and the third is a story family. I archive all of my save files and back them up, so I have about 20 saves that I haven't played in some time. Once in a while I switch some of those saves into my main folder and switch the last few unplayed ones back out.

Thank you for correcting me :p autocorrect=bad. Anyways it seems I am very far behind. I am enjoying my family right now and I plan to play with them for a few generations. Picking one child, growing their family when they turn to YA, then picking another child from them and building them up ect. Eventually I plan to create others yes, but I don't know when. And once I get more expansion packs and I feel like I'm advanced enough I'll try Legacy first, and go from their.

I currently have 0 families, since I am reinstalling after finally accepting the deficiency of my bugged single (much-loved) game.

Aw, that is sad to read. :( And you came so far. You could send your savegame to me if you like. Sometimes some files won't work on one computer until they got saved on another. I had that once.

Thanks Leto, that is tempting, but I have well and truly given up on it. EA help said the families themselves are bugged (I have tried numerous fixes including moving them afresh to new neighbourhoods) and I am just tired of trying - plus trying again would mean un/reinstalling all over again plus much disappointment when it doesn't work. I have photos of my favourite sims and I intend to remake them if I can in CAS, and use the original townies that I had at the beginning (thankful for editincas cheat), to make a new game I can enjoy.

I've only been playing sims 3 for a few months now and I recently bought 3 expansion packs (Ambitions, Pets, Generations) when they were on sale, so at the moment I'm playing a few shorter games (1 generation) to try out all the new content/new worlds/jobs/skills etc. After that I'll probably go back to having a couple of active saves at a time, and in summer when my exams are over I'll hopefully have time to play a legacy or dynasty :)

I usually play no more than five towns. I don't have the best memory and will forget what I was doing with them if I have too many. :P

I have all the EA towns now, I think.  I have a family in all but the new one, Starlight Shores.  I don't really know that I'll go back to all of them, but my families in Sunset Valley and Appaloosa Plains are my challenge/project families and they get most of my time.  The Riverview family is next, but now that I've installed Showtime I think I'll start over with them.

I've got my ongoing game in Sunset Valley, which has been modified beyond all belief (I've changed the buildings around and such), and I've got my Random Legacy for the forum, which is in Union Cove, but that's it. I've been meaning to start another town in Riverview for another game I want to play, but it requires a lot of building, plus, I wanted to completely rebuild Riverview or Sunset Valley, apart from the Rabbit Holes.

I've got all the expansions, which has five towns, plus Riverview, plus all three of the store bought towns, plus Union Cove, which gives me a grand total of ten towns to play in. I think I only ever touch three or four of them, but I've been meaning to change that.
