Paving slabs? Pet Shop?

Hi, I'm new to the PC version and am trying my hand at building. I want to know where to get the square slabs I've seen as pathways and around community buildings. I've got the base game and Pets. And I'm not sure how to place the pet shop. I have to go to Edit Town mode but where do I find it? And do I have to add the register to it?

Hi Hope512, welcome to the PC Simming world! Do you mean the big two-by-two pavers from Appaloosa Plains? If so, those are made of four rotated cornerpieces from the Stone section of the floor tiles. They look like this:



To rotate the tiles, hit the < and > buttons.

You do need to place a register for the pet shop to work, but don't worry; the premade pet shop comes with one already. If you purchased the Limited Edition version of Pets or downloaded it from the Store, the building should appear in your Building Library. You can reach the community lot section of the Building Library from Edit Town by clicking on the tab with a picture of a park bench on the toolbar. If you can't place the pet shop on your chosen lot, the lot is either too small or zoned incorrectly. If it's the latter, go out of the Building Library, click on the lot and click the Change Lot Type button to change it from a Residential Lot to any kind of Community Lot. You should then be able to place your pet shop.

Thanks Ausette.  Now I know where the pet shop is.    And thank you for the picture, I didn't think of using the bordered tiles like that.

I didn't mean those tiles though. I've been in sunset Valley and Riverview and they are the square slabs that are used as paths around buildings and houses. I looked at the tile section but I couldn't see anything that looked like that. I actually haven't been into Appaloosa Plains yet. I've been getting up to speed with Sunset Valley and Riverview, but I plan on visiting Appaloosa next.

I love Carl's guides. It's just a lot to take in, so I'm slowly absorbing it!

Hmm, I'm not sure which slabs you're talking about. The best way for you to find out would be to go to the lot in Edit Town and use the eyedropper tool on them. That'll tell you which category they're from (if the eyedropper tool doesn't pick them up, they're either the sidewalks or part of the terrain paint). If you like, you can save the recolour to use later by clicking on them with the Create-a-Style tool (the easel icon) and clicking the save button in the top-left panel.

You might be talking about pavement that is available in the ground textures (not sure what it's called) part of the build mode - it has different kinds of soil, flowers, paving, etc.

It's a bad picture, but is the thing next to the road (the sidewalk that is closest to the camera) what you are after?

If so, there is a CC terrain paint for it, but I'm not sure if can share the link (it is on ModTheSims, and I don't know if I am allowed to link to the CC side of it) and the actual sidewalk is only available in CAW..

Sidewalk slabs are almost identical to the flat roof, if that's what you want to use. Though I'm not sure if sims can walk on it...

Seabody - I can see what I mean at the lower left of the picture below the grass. If that's what you mean by the sidewalk, then yes that's exactly it. (in the UK we call it pavement). CAW sounds extremely complicated so I'm not ready for that yet!

That's it, it's only available in CAW.
Or you can get the Custom Content version, but it's a terrain paint.

CC is still a no-no, but adding CC to get this is now unnecessary.  There was a sidewalk terrain paint that was added with Showtime.  I don't know if it was included in the patch or was actually installed with the game.

Thanks to everyone who replied to my question.

Hosfac - I haven't got Showtime and don't plan on getting it. I now see that it is a CAW thing. I'll just have to find another way.

As for the petshop It's now turned up, although I haven't tried to visit it yet. I tried installing it again, the game told me it was already installed, and suddenly there it was in the community lots. Yay!

The Paving Terrain Paint from Showtime won't be the same colour as the Pavements in most of the towns other than Starlight Shores. I think if you go into Edit Town in Sunset Valley, however, and then edit the Lot which has the Grocery Store, Theatre and the Book Store then the flooring there is quite similar to the pavement of the roads. It isn't perfect but it's all that I can think of that may be of use. 

EDIT: Or do you mean like the paths linking from the Road near the Wolff House up to the beach in the other cove in Sunset Valley or the ones going to the Chess Park? If so then that is indeed only available in Create-A-World as it acts like a road but for pedestrians and it is not on a lot.

EDIT 2: Central park has the better floor tiles for my original Pre-Edit idea. They look more like the Pavement of the road if that's what you wanted.

Um, okay now I'm not sure which bits look like what, lol. I've been concentrating on gameplay trying to remember where everything is. Most of the community lots have the same symbol (like parks) so I'm trying to remember the map. Given I've got 3 towns now, it's taking time. Which floor tiles does the central park in sunset Valley have? Are they already in the build section? You know, I find it hard to see some of the samples especially the paint and wallpaper, it looks quite different on the walls.

I'll have a look at the various places I can edit in Edit Town and see which tiles I like.
