Game Crashed to Desktop After Resetting Computer
« on: March 29, 2012, 06:35:38 AM »
Well I have been having problems with my sims game since this last patch. Now the latest.

3 days ago I tried to log onto my computer (password protected so my daughter cant log on without me knowing) and it wouldnt let me log in.  I called the people that made my computer (IBuyPower..  my computer is 2 years old and I have always had problems from day one on this computer even though I have sent it back to them to fix it 3 times now then I gave up because they never could fix it.. continueous blue screen crashes and also get "your display card stop working but recovered", etc etc)

So turn out they said I did something to my computer (supposedly, even though I havent done anything but my normal stuff). So they had me do the recover your computer from a past date.  the only one available was March 15th (the date of the update). So I did that..  at first it wouldnt work.  then when I tried to restart my computer again it let me log onto it. Great!!

So then I go to play my sims dynasty game..  and it said it couldnt play any of my games cuz it didnt have the files required to play them.  So I thought ok (didnt want to bug anyone) and I updated with the new update and played a new game. Was fine for a bit.  Then decided I wanted to try playing a game on SV for my dynasty and since then it crashes to my desktop after a certain point.

So I tried taking my files out of my documents files and put them in a folder on desktop.  That didnt work. Then what I dreaded.. I took all my sims games off using WinASO Registry Optimizer and reinstalled them.  I had to use Origin download cuz I dont have my discs atm (I have every EP and stuff pack) but I moved recently and I cant find the cases.  Unfortunately  of the stuff packs I didnt have registered on the Sims 3 website so they didnt send them to the Origin downloader.  But I thought ok well I can live with that for the time being I just want to play my game.  (wish I had seen the port about getting your serial codes off your computer earlier before i deleted my games lol)

So after several hours of downloading..  I have played a fresh game and it crashes right away to desktop as soon as I make a game in SV.  I have no clue what to do..  I did do the DEP thing also for origin games

here is a copy of part of my DxDiag

Is there anyone that can help me?  Should i try to take my computer back again if I can or uninstall all my sims 3 games again and reinstall them?

I can not play my game at all and I dont know what to do now

P.S.  I have to say how sad I have been with the Showtime EP with all the problems I have been having.  I wish they would fix things that need fixing.  I hate to just stop playing my game  but sometimes I get so close to stopping because of all the trouble im having.

Hi Blackrosea.

Would you please change the subject of this topic?  "Help Please" doesn't really tell anyone what it's about and it's important that subjects be as specific as possible.  You can change it by clicking on "Modify" in the original post.  Thanks very much.

You said you had done the DEP exclusion.  The file to exclude is the ts3w.exe in your base game folder.  Is this the one you chose?

Also with the DEP it looks like some of the are duplicated..  idk is that the problem?  I'm not very computer literate :(

Edit:  oh it looks like the duplicates look similar like TS3EP01.exe   then the other is TS3SP01.exe

How about something like "Game Crashed to Desktop After Resetting Computer" if that sounds right to you.  When making new topics in the future, be sure to give them specific names as much as you can.

Blackrosea, the file you want to add to the DEP is TS3W.exe.  You can leave any others there as I doubt it will matter but that is the one that the game will start from.

It will be in your game folder. Try these instructions: http://www.modthesims.info/wiki.php?title=Game_Help:Data_Execution_Prevention/TS3W

Thanks for responding Figwit.  I have that file in there.  When I tried to delete the other files, thinking that might help, it won't let me delete any of them. When i delete and then hit apply and then ok, if I go back it hows all the files in there again. So I tried my game again and it crashes still.

That seems a strange way for the DEP to behave but I haven't used it for a while - am on a Mac these days - so can't think of what can be the problem.

Do you have any mods or cc?  if you do, remove them and try starting your game.   :)

No I do not have any CC or Mods.  But I tried an experiment.  I deleted all my games again and just installed my Sims 3 base game.  I was able to play it for 3 weeks 5 days no probblems.  Now I did the update and my game is crashing again.  So I am assuming it is the update,  What do I do?  I have no clue now.

Oh dear.  The only other thing I can think of is it could be your anti-virus program.  Do you use Norton's?  I have heard that it can cause problems.  You could try disabling it while you play.

If it isn't that, maybe this thread can help you: http://forum.thesims3.com/jforum/posts/list/455209.page

There are instructions at this site on how to uninstall your game so that you clean up your registry as well.  I hope it doesn't come to that though.   :-\

No I do not have Norton. I use AVG FREE 2012..  All night I have tried different things hoping my game will play again  but it wont.  The only thing that will play is if I download sims 3 base game and do no updates :(

I have tried updating my video card; Disable my UAC, restart, then clicking it back on; Manually update each game to its patch before Generations EP; Uninstall Origin and reinstall it before downloading my games again;

Only thing I can think of to try now is to uinstall all my games again (this is so tiring this will be my 5th uninstal/install of all my games... I want to cry) and double check that everything is deleted.  I figured the program I had would take care of it (Have WinASO Registry Optimizer) and then reinstall again, unless you have any ideas what else I can do.  I have all EP and don't want to be limited just to my base game with no updates :(

I am sorry.  I am out of ideas and you have done everything I could have thought of.  All I can think of is you might have left something behind on the previous uninstalls that is corrupting it now.

There are instructions here that tell you how to uninstall and clean out your registry: http://www.carls-sims-3-guide.com/technicalhelp/installorder.php

Good luck.
