What mods are worth downloading?

I want to know what mods are worth downloading and what that specific one does.

One I've had a lot of fun with is the traveler mod from NRaas. With it you can take your Sim to any of the WA  cities and make it your home town, just playing out your game in a foreign city.

My take on mods is to first identify what annoys you in the game and then go see if there is something that will knock that behaviour on the head or fix that glitch or make that task, that you have done a hundred times already, get done a little quicker.

twallan's Mods are worth a look. I have only NRaas Mods (Mods made by twallan) at the moment, as his are of exceptional quality, and they don't conflict with each other. He also provides a Which Mod FAQ on his Wiki to enable you to see which Mod you would like to choose (Pick a scenario from the menu at the right).
I would suggest ErrorTrap at first, if you are experiencing a buggy game, as well as Overwatch. Both are beneficial to your game - ErrorTrap logs errors and usually prevents crashes, and Overwatch performs general maintenance on your game at around 3AM every game day to keep it running smooth.
If you want to enrich gameplay, consider MasterController or Traveler. RunAmokSims provided an explanation on the Traveler Mod, but MasterController is an excellent Mod that I use.
And finally, Saver. It is an AutoSave mechanism so you can always guarantee you have a Save game to go to if your game does crash.

I highly recommend Story Progression by Twallan. There was a "no autonomous computer game playing" I used to never play without. I found that over at modthesims.

I agree with Seabody.  In terms of absolute must-have mods I swear by Twallan's ErrorTrap, Overwatch, and Saver.  They seem to fix most of what is broken about TS3.  I've also started using his StoryProgression mod which I've enjoyed - but it has taken some tweaking to get settings that I'm happy with.  I consider mods like StoryProgression, MasterController, etc. to be more 'cosmetic'.  They definitely add some great dimension to the game but they are not vital to my game play.

NonaMena took a lot of time when we first opened the forum up to discussions about mods to recommend some mods/modders/sites that she has found to be trustworthy and of good quality, so I would definitely look up her thread for some ideas.

I think the best thing to do is what Figwit mentioned - think about what things you wish you could change about TS3 and then see if there is a mod to help you.  If you're unsure if you should trust a particular mod you can always ask if anyone else has used it and what their experience has been.
