Why did nobody tell me you can breed fish in captivity.
« on: March 27, 2012, 05:40:03 PM »
I put three death fish in a fish tank and now I have four. When I click on manage fish and run the mouse over the fish it says Bonnie bred in captivity.
I never even knew this was possible and just had to share.

Everytime I use the tank my fish always die. I guess it works better if you keep a close eye on it.

It took them less then two Sim days to reproduce. My angler Sim is a little bit obsesed with them and spends hours watching them.

Does anybody know if they will breed if I put them in a pond in the garden.

I'm pretty sure they do because I remember in Pam's dynasty she had Christopher leave 10 deathfish in a pond on the home lot and that provided for them for the rest of the dynasty.
If at first you don't succeed, call it version 1.0.

It's not that they breed in a pond as much as once you put in 10, they're always there now.

I think the fish tank breeding is one of the best things ever.  I used it in my Steel dynasty that failed and I've had a fish tank in a lot of homes just for that purpose.  The key is to remember to feed them.  They will breed until you have 6 or a full tank.  You can take some out and they will keep going for however you want but it's only in the big tanks naturally.

If you obsessively watch, you'll see a pixelation when they breed. Just don't mix bait fish with them or the bait will get eaten.

When you stock a Pond it just adds a Spawner for that type of fish that has a constant supply and never runs out. You still need a Fisherman with a high enough level to catch them though. I'm working to get Deathfish stocked in my Pond in my Dynasty as I already have Angel Fish. Maybe I'll use this method to see if I can get the numbers up!

I shared this picture in my Sunburst Dynasty story ages ago (Feb 2011) and I'll post it here too. Deathfish "Try for Baby" in the large fish tank. I had one more Deathfish in the tank after this; it was pretty cool.

How exactly can you do this? I cannot figure out how to put two fish in the same fishbowl. Or do you need a certain EP for this?

You need to have a fish tank not a fish bowl.   Fish tanks can be bought from the store or one came from HELS.  I can't remember if I've seen any others but I know of those two for certain.

I thought they couldn't breed in the digital fish tank?  Has anyone actually gotten more from it?  If my game actually works tonight, I may experiment.

Well I am sorry but you can not do that in a bowl. You need a fish tank for that and those come with certain expansions and stuff pack. There are also a few in different types you can buy in the Store on thesims3.com.

You can't breed in a digital fish tank.  It's just the regular ones, like the one in High End Loft.  I have a few different ones in my game that came from Store sets, I believe.
