Yes, I just looked at those items. I hope they can fix the store soon, because those items have been on my wishlist for quite a while! I'm not sure if it has anything to do with me being in the UK. The announcement says "For a limited time only, from Friday August 30th 10:00 AM PDT to Sunday September 1st 11:59 PM PDT." Does anyone know if this means in American time or British? Sorry if that's a stupid question!  :)

I believe PDT is Pacific Daylight Time, which is the timezone for California, Seattle and basically the West coast of America and Canada. That is UTC minus 8 or 9 hours, I think.

After a couple weeks, there is couple new free content at the Sims 3, from August 30 to September 1, 2013.

Big Note:  Currently, these items aren't showing up as free.  This happened with the last set, so you may give it a few hours, maybe even a day, for EA to fix the store.

They are supposed to be free, and you can see the announcement here

Thanks for sharing this Bri.  It has been fixed.  They are now displaying as free and I was just able to download them both! :)

The items may be free if you get them in game.  Unfortunately, if you go directly to the store to get them, they still show up as 25 SimPoints.

They was both showing as free from the store. I just downloaded them.

They showed up as 25 simpoints on the store but I just clicked on the buy button like I usually do and I got it for free anyway.

Free Content September 6 to September 8, 2013

The Sims 3 Store has a couple new items free this weekend, from September 6 to September 8, 2013.

Both items come from the Forest Bedroom Set (which is also 40% off this weekend).

The first is the Kirby the Frog Desk.
You can find it here

The second is the Animal Friends End Table.
You can find it here

Perfect if you wish to include a few more 'child' oriented items.

Free Stuff: September 13 to September 15, 2013

Thank you for the kind words Lilygirl.

And as one can expect, there is another couple free items from the Sims 3 Store.  Each item comes from the Haute Hip set, which is also under sale this weekend.

Anyways, on to the free items:

The first is the Haute Hip Sofa

The second is the Haute Dresser

Note, the official announcement can be seen here.

Some items may not show up as being free (depending on various factors), so you may wish to wait a little bit for the store to straighten it out.  If this is the case, Customer Support should be able to help you, but also be ready to point them to the relevant pages.

Also, corrected the dresser link thanks to Angelique's information.

Actually, it's the Haute Dresser that's free, not the Haute Tall Dresser. The image and link on the news page are faulty. The image shows the Haute Tall Dresser, and the link leads to the HTD when you click on it. The name below the item is correct though.

I read this info on the Sims Vip site a couple of minutes ago, and it felt good to get an explanation as to why I failed to download the so-called "free" HTD.

Edit: The image and link on the news page have now been corrected! Good job, EA! Hopefully you'll get it right the next time, practice makes perfect, you know... ;)

from what I am reading is that when I go to play a game and it shows at the launcher that there are free items, and when I go there they say I need to have sim points to get it, to still attempt to download it, that it will come through as free?

I have gone several times, such as the Forest bedroom set to get the free items and it said I needed sim points.  I just clicked out and went to play my game.

If I had gone ahead as if I was going to buy it, I would have gotten it for free?

That is what has confused me several times, I go and check and it states I need sim points.  I can't afford to buy the stuff, and some I wouldn't get even if it was free, but when there is something I would like it is very frustrating to see that I have to buy it, switch and bait is how I have seen it.
The aspect of if you buy this you get this free is acceptable method of selling products.

When I go to get the free items, I personally don't mess with the launcher, nor do it in game. I just hit the links as they show up, and make sure it reads as free.  After the transaction goes through, then I download (which does open the browser).

I generally open the game from my games list, click on Island Paradise and then the launcher appears.  On the right is a list of info links and also of free stuff.  I can login there and go to the site for the free stuff.  I have only had a couple of times been able to get the free items.  Tried for the car and couldn't get that, really would have liked to have had that one.

The free stuff from the Forest said free but when I clicked on the link it stated I had to have some points, basically I had to buy it.

I never login unless I want to get something from the home site, EA store. Such as when I buy a store world, Dragon  Valley, for instance.
Otherwise, I ignore the login and just play the game.

Given the vagaries of the Sims 3 store, I can attest that sometimes the offer worked best to get via the launcher.  Other times it worked best to just log into the store.  People have had an item show up free via the launcher, and not the store as well as the opposite case.

The only thing I can recommend is try one, then the other if it doesn't work.  I know, this isn't an ideal solution, and if the store is buggy on that day, or the offer hasn't been coded properly, that doesn't help.
