Can changes be made on townies
« on: March 25, 2012, 09:28:30 AM »
I was checking out the traits, skill and lifetime wish of my sims hubby.  He is a cop, jut promoted to lieutentant.   His lifetime wish is to be surrounded by family, traits are good, brave, friendly, family-oriented and athletic.

So, not much help in a career for a cop,   :)

What I am wondering is:
Can his career choice be changed, his lifetime wish from surrounded by family to something else?  I don't see tht as a bad wish, but he is a cop.

From what I have read in my searching, his traits can not be changed, nor can he obtain any lifetime rewards.  That sucks

Can I add to his skills, such as increase his logic, athletic, add others skills?

How much control do I have with him at his job?  If his wish is family, will he work to do better at his job, get promotions, or be satisfied where he is?  Can my sim have any affect, help?

He has been offered an opportunity to go to Egypt and learn a game to help the millitary.  I accepted.  I think he was offered an opportunity to change his job type such as from cop to military.  Turned it down, not sure what to do in that area with his lifetime wish for family.

If I make mistakes in grammer and spelling, please forgive, I think I am starting to come down with flu, hubby has been sick, and now I am showing the same symptoms.

If he is under your control you can use lifetime happiness points to change his LTW to something other then surrounded by family, To change his career just get him to use his phone click on the option to quit job and then use the newspaper, computer, phone or click on the relevent building to get him the job you want him to have.

Like I said before if he is under your control then he is capable of getting lifetime happiness points and rewards.

Townies can also be changed with the "testingcheatsenabled on" cheat.  When I have this cheat on, I will go around town and change townies clothes and traits to suit my own needs.  I didn't even know you could do this and found out by accident.  You can also change their LTW and use body sliders, even if you are not controlling them.  I do know if you are not controlling a townie, you are right, even if they achieve their LTW, they do not get their points, but, that is the way the game has been coded, I suppose.  You don't really have too much control over their lives if they are not the active household.  I do have a neighborhood, where I have been in every household and change traits, put children items in and pet items.  So I am constantly changing households, which can be time consuming.  Not sure if this has really answered any of your questions, but I hope it helped. :)

It's not exactly detrimental to his career, either.  The only problem I see is if his LTW conflicts with what you want for the game.

Townies can also be changed with the "testingcheatsenabled on" cheat.

Once the cheat is active, you shift+click on the Sim in question and it will take them back to CAS, where you can change their traits and LTW, as well as their clothing and body slider positions.

Thankfully, yes (especially on SV townies). With the Master Controller mod or "Edit Sim in CAS" cheat.

I tend to have loud opinions. So sorry. I got tons of issues, lol. I can also be found on Yahoo! Answers.

In addition to all the good answers, I'd like too add that a mod is not anywhere necessary to accomplish these things in the game.  Also, being a cop doesn't contradict his Lifetime Wish of Surrounded by Family at all, especially if the mother is willing to stay home and care for the children.  Your family will need income and law enforcement is as good as any other job.  However, you can change these things for your Sim without even cheating.  With happiness points, he can change his Lifetime Wish and also change his traits (with the Mid-Life Crisis reward).  So, it's just up to you how you want to play your Sim.  :)

Brave is the best trait for a cop - it adds 3 points per hour to his career advancement, helping him get promoted faster.

It's been awhile since I've play law enforcement, but don't they need Athletic skill, too?

It really depends on which branch he goes for but yes eventually they do. The first couple of levels actually require logic.

Janna - the important thing to know about townies is that once you control them - they are now your Sims. You can do anything to them that your heart desires as if they were the Sim that you made in CAS when you started the game.  You can use cheats or regular game play to change about anything you have a problem with.

From what I have read in my searching, his traits can not be changed, nor can he obtain any lifetime rewards.  That sucks

Normally townies can't be changed but if your Sim married him and he's now living in your house and you have the ability to make him do things like get opportunities and you tell him when to go to bed or eat or shower  than that means you have the ability to get him LTRs.  You can change those traits and skills however you see fit.

In fact, if that's the reason you're installing a mod, you're seriously taking the long way about it.

Yes they do.  It becomes less important in the Forensics branch I believe, but the special agent branch requires it all the way to the top.

Well,  It seems the police department took it out of my hands   ;D
It came up with an opportunity that he has done so well that he has caught the attention of many and he is offered a chance to become Special Agent or Forensic.  Forensic seems to fit better in what he would want, to be surrounded by family.  At least that I what I think.

His athletic was at 2 but since his promotion he has been working out, without any nugging by me, to where he is now at level 5 (although I did get him an exercise machine).   I did start him on logic, as I felt that would do good.  And I think there was something that stated he should learn some painting skills, so they now have side by side easels, LOL.

With my sim being at home, she can take care of the kids while doing her painting.  At the price she gets for a picture, she won't have to paint a lot, combined with his income.

I am proofreading, but I may miss mistakes, so please overlook them.  Feeling lousy
