Having Trouble Planting Seeds (Sims 3 Pets)

My sim just reached level 7 of the gardening skill.  This means he can plant rare and special seeds.  But when he was level 5 he could plant the uncommon seeds, which included onion.  He found an onion seed and I placed it on his lot next to 2 tomato plants and 1 grape bush.  Well it didn't give me the option to plant, just pick up.  So I thought wait until he levels up and try again.  But it still won't let my sim plant the onion seed. I even had him try to plant an actual onion, with no luck.  Anyone have any ideas?

I haven't tried much gardening on Pets yet so my only thought on this is that maybe the seed is placed to close to another object, be it another plant or a wall/fence etc, I often got that problem on the sims 3. Try placing the seed from storage/inventory in build mode in an open space (atleast 1 large grid square away from other objects), go back to live mode and see if you can plant it, if you manage to plant it you should be able to move the plant in build mode should you wish to do so.

If all else fails you could try moving house and then try planting the onion/seed just to see if the lot was bugged or something. Moving seems to fix quite a few bugs for the console versions providing it is a bug of course.

Thanks for the reply, HotShot2k.  No the seed wasn't next to anything. In fact my sim just moved there and only planted 2 tomato plants.  This problem was also at the previous house.  Maybe I'll move back and forth.  But today I had my sim go to the community garden to harvest all the fruits and veggies there, maybe to replant and eat.  But when he got home there was nothing in the inventory.  I checked both on his inventory and the build/buy inventory.  I think this happened when I moved.  I did have a previous save so I'll check it later.  I hope the game sorts itself out next time I sign on.
