I've used this trick recently and it seems to work.  However, I haven't tried it enough to confirm it as 100% still working.  Honestly, I don't see why they would change it, but I suppose it's possible that it might have simply been broken by accident.

How many fruit did your Sim actually eat?  I've seen failures with as many as 6.

I'm not sure how many she ate while pregnant.  I just had her eating nothing but watermelon whenever she was hungry from the get-go.  I did not sit her down and stuff them into her after she was full... that may have been a mistake ;)  .... ahhh well, the boy is quite taken with fishing so he's rolling along on his requirements.  We'll see what his wife brings into the dynasty when that time comes  :-X

Brennan - think of it this way.  Unless you have to add to the household, at least with a male you can wait as long as you want to have a baby as only female Sims have an age restriction.

I have had the same issue for the last few expansions, since Pets it seems.  Watermelons throughout the pregnancies and all I get are boys.  Either they have removed it or it is bugged.  If I don't try anything I get a mix of boys and girls.  I haven't tested with apples since I never intentionally try for a boy as I prefer to have female heirs.

No, same with the inaccurate gender thing. It's been happening since the Pets patch. Sometimes my sims will consume 10 watermelons and get a boy. But, I haven't been playing with kids since a few months ago, soo..i'm not sure.

I tend to have loud opinions. So sorry. I got tons of issues, lol. I can also be found on Yahoo! Answers.

I don't think it's the patch, I'm all patched up and I've never had any problems getting the gender I wanted with the watermelon/apples trick.  ???

She started as soon as she got pregnant. I don't use Story Progression, and I didn't ask a doctor. I think I'll try it with apples next time and see what happens. I have everything up to Pets installed right now and am patched, so it wasn't Showtime.

I've got a Sim who will be having a baby in the not-too-distant future.  I'll be sure to test the watermelons and report back here.

My dynasty Sim just had a baby girl after eating ten watermelons during her pregnancy. I had her start eating them once she spun into maternity clothes. Of course I have no way of knowing if she had a girl because of the watermelons or if it was just chance.
Does anyone know exactly when the gender locks during the pregnancy. I was playing a game once where my Sim got pregnant the doctor confirmed she was having a boy and not long after my game froze. I loaded up a previous save from when she was preganant but didn't know about it continued with the pregnancy and that time she had a girl.

If I want to girl or a boy, when my sim starts walking with her back hunched I give her 3 watermelons/apples which always works in my game.

However, I've had a sim who ate 5 watermelons and got a boy.

The thing about only needing 3 of the fruit has been debunked long ago.  It might have been true way back when the game first came out, but if it was, EA changed it.  I always always tell people to go for 10 of the necessary fruit.  But now, we're questioning whether maybe EA has changed it and it no longer works at all.

Three's always worked for me, but four or five haven't. What time during the pregnancy do you guys give the sim watermelons or apples?

Is there any reason to not believe what NonaMena mentioned on the first page? If it's from the game files, I see no reason to not to. This would explain why 3 is not enough (and that it doesn't matter at what stage of pregnancy they are eaten).

Actually, the fruit gender offset can work at any time during the pregnancy. By default, the chance for each gender is 50%. Eating the right fruit offsets the chance by 10%. You only need to eat 5 fruit to have a 100% chance to get a certain gender, and the gender offset cannot exceed 100%. This is in the Pregnancy XML in the GameplayData.package.

Myself, I've lately gotten boys even though my sims eat watermelon during the whole pregnancy (or a boy + girl if it's twins), but I am usein Nraas storyprogression which explains it for me.

What if even 2 watermelons or apples work? I've tried more than 5 once and not gotten the gender I've wanted. Yet most of the time when I've gotten the gender I wanted it's from eating 2 or 3.

Maybe it depends on the game? I've had game where I sometimes don't get the gender i've wanted from eating just 3.

Or it's different for everybody? We've all given our sims different amounts and still got or not the the result we wanted.
