Question: Cache Files - What do they do/How Do they Work?
« on: March 22, 2012, 12:06:39 AM »
Before I try deleting these files along with some other stuff that I've noted to delete.

CasPartCache.package, compositorCache.package, scriptCache.package, simCompositorCache.package

Can someone explain what these files do and/or how they work. I've read deleting these files will help speed up the game some-what. But that they do take sometime to regenerate.

I try to delete them after every time I play the game, if I remember.  But I can't explain exactly what they do.  Haha!  There are others around who will be able to give an intelligent answer, though.

I delete them also after every game session. The sim compositor is sim related I think lol. The compositor one get quite big when I place buildings or buy stuff. The script one is more important for mod users. I don't use them lol. What the cas one do I don't know.

There's a page on the Sims Wiki that explains it:

Ha, ninja'd.  I was just about to post that link.

I rarely delete mine.  I know people say it helps speed your game up but I have never found it so and I find that puzzling because they are quite tiny.  The only time I delete mine is if I move a mod out or change over default replacement skin.  Even then I usually forget.  ;D

If you delete them, the game just regenerates them, so the only reason to delete them is if they've gotten corrupted or if you've removed a lot of custom content.
