Twallan's Traveler Mod-I'm loving it!
« on: March 21, 2012, 06:49:22 PM »
I have to say I'm loving this mod.  I've always wanted to do just sandbox play in all the foreign destinations and now I can. So far I have one game going in France, I started another one in Egypt and I'll get another one going in China. I can switch between the games when I get bored with one or another.  I  added some venues in France so I can have an acrobat, (some how France and mime just seemed to go together) and I'll do more as I go along. Egypt is going to be a challenge. I'm looking for spots to put some commercial lots in.

I love the Traveler mod, too, because it means I can actually Travel with my sims! For the longest time, I had no problems with traveling and then one day I came across the dreaded missing sim bug. I ended up abandoning that save, and I was pretty upset about that. Then I starting getting Traveling bugs far more frequently so I stopped Traveling all together.

Now I travel where ever and whenever I want. Such a great mod that people can use to play their game however they like.

I use a lot of Twallans mods; but, haven't put this one in yet. Now, reading your answers, it goes in!

Wow, so with this Mod you can have a normal game in one of the Destinations? Awesome!  :)

Yep. I have one game going in each foreign city and I switch between them. You start a game in a regular town, (now I'm not positive because I still have to play with the mods to get some things done) save your game at least once, then travel to the city of your choice. Once you're there you adjust the mods to reflect it's not a vacation, buy a house...and bam! you've got a game going in any of the foreign cities.

The biggest challenge I'm finding is what lots to put where. You notice there aren't any schools, hospitals or other community buildings. Right now it's home births and home schooling.

Don't forget with Traveler you can also make other towns vacation towns, you don't have to visit World Adventure towns but perhaps you want to visit Bridgeport for a weekend or Riverview.  It assigns a cheaper home as "base camp" and you can run around for (however many) days before returning to your home town, just like WA.  Its a lot of fun!

I used Traveler to send my singer to other towns to perform. However, the second time she went to Bridgeport, everyone was old and retired. She'd only benn gone a sim week. So, I exited and went back in and then Matt Hamming was a young adult but retired!
So be sure to have plenty of saves, because I'm not the only one who had this happen.

Twallan updated Traveler yesterday to fix that problem.

Thanks, I found that out later in the day. it was weird having everyone in town go from young adult to elder in a sim day. My sim would have been the only one left in town. One good thing was she was inheriting from all the sims!

That sounds awesome but does it give you scary baby glitch or lags your game?

Haha, I guess that's at least a positive way to look at it ;)

This mod will not cause sims to look scary -- only clothing and accessories will do that. As far as lag goes, this mod shouldn't cause your game to lag more. However, if you travel to many different worlds, your save file might get much larger. If you already have Save Error 12 issues, I would recommend monitoring save file size when traveling to more than 3 different worlds. Just using a mod to disable memories (such as NRaas MasterController, Shimrod's Mod, or Velocitygrass' mod) is a good way to keep save file bloat down.
