Can't Get Eye and Body Replacements to Work
« on: March 18, 2012, 02:34:31 PM »
I tried installing Aikea Guinea's default replacement eyes and default replacement skintone, since the ones that come with the game don't look very realistic, and the original eyes are starting to creep me out. The instructions were,

Quote
After installing, simply delete the simCompositorCache.package from My Documents\Electronic Arts\The Sims 3. Don't worry, it'll respawn when you start your game.

I downloaded them as .rar files, extracted the .package files with "The Unarchiver", dragged them into the Packages folder found in Applications/The Sims 3.localized/The Sims3.app/Contents/Resources/transgaming/c_drive/Program Files/Electronic Arts/The Sims 3/Mods. I the  deleted the simCompositorCache.package file, and started my game.

When I loaded my game, I paused it and zoomed in on one of my Sims with Tab Mode. She had both the eyes and the skin, so I played the game as normal, and aged one of my toddlers up into a child. She also got the replacements.

After that, when I went back to the first Sim, she had lost the replacements and had the original ones again. Same with all of my other sims except the one I aged up at the start. If I take them into any kind of CAS, they have the new eyes and skin, but not in play mode. I tried deleting the .package files, redownloading them, and installing them again, but it didn't make a difference.

All other CC and Mods I have installed via .package file works fine.

Pictures:

The girl I aged up at the start (Plum, the black haired girl), and the one who had the replacements for a short time (Coconut, the blonde girl).

After I CAS'd her, Coconut somehow managed to keep the replacements in play mode, although I'm not sure how.

I tried this on their brother, Açai, but that turned out the same as it usually does.

Does anyone use Aikea Guinea's default replacements, or know how to fix this?

I don't have a Mac, so I'm not familiar with Mac framework, but are you sure you're using the "new" (since Ambitions) framework set up? It doesn't look like it. I believe Mac framework should look like this:

Mac OS: /Users/<username>/Documents/Electronic Arts/The Sims 3/Mods/Packages

Please see the MTS guide for more information: Installing Sims 3 Package Files: Setup & Files

I do use Aikea Guinea skins, and I have no problems with them showing up in game, so I don't have any other ideas.

Macs use the same way to install CC that they do for Mods now which is the way Nona mentioned.  I guess the information you got was for the old way of doing things.

I followed the path NonaMena mentioned, but I didn't find any folders called Mods.

When I searched it in Finder, I found one under the path naomi/Downloads/framework/Mods. Inside, there was a folder called Files, with documents called DDFMap.txt and Resource.cfg in it. There was also an empty folder called Packages.

Do these have anything to do with The Sims?

I followed the path NonaMena mentioned, but I didn't find any folders called Mods.

You create the Mods and Packages files yourself. The resource.cfg file (which must be downloaded) is here (direct download). Place it in the Mods folder. Be careful, Mods and Packages must be capitalized!

Edit: Rica (or any Mac user who uses Mods) can confirm whether this is right, as it works for PC, but I'm not sure about Macs.

I tried creating a Packages folder, and it said "The name “Packages” is already taken. Please choose a different name.", referring to the one where I  originally tried installing the replacements and where I have all my other CC. What do I do with that one?

EDIT: I tried placing resource.cfg in my existing Packages folder, but nothing happened.

I recommend that you read this: Game Help:Installing Sims 3 Package Files/Old Way to New Way

And do read the whole thing and follow it exactly.

Urgh. I followed all the instructions exactly, and nothing changed at all. This is really starting to tick me off.

I'm sorry to hear that :(  Shot in the dark, but do you perhaps have other default replacements for skin and eyes? You probably know, but you can only have one default replacement at a time (one for skin, one for eyes).

I don't think I do. All I have are hair and clothes meshes, some random furniture, and a few of twallan's Mods.
I even tried running the game with just the two replacements installed, and the same thing happened. :(

You're putting them in the same folder as your mods right?  The mods work but the skin and eyes don't?

Stupid question, but do you have advanced rendering on? Without it, I've noticed that replacements don't like to show up in game.

Simstar, I understand your frustration. I have a Mac and did the same thing. When I first started installing Mods I did it the "old way." All that did was create a mess. Here is what happened for me and how I corrected it:

After installing "the old way" no mods would show up. Even if I made the folder "the new way"
Uninstall the game and all eps, stuff packs, etc
Reinstall the game and all eps, stuff packs etc.
Then create the mods folder and all that jazz the new way.

I'm pretty sure I do. :-\

What patch level are you on? The 1.32 super patch broke custom skins.

Edit: Perhaps this will help? http://nraas.wikispaces.com/message/view/Chatterbox/52149820
