Patch causing problems
« on: March 16, 2012, 02:30:32 PM »
I've been very busy, so I haven't had time to play Sim since february. Then, these two new patches. I don't know which one caused it, but suddenly, my game launcher won't open. I have all the expansions and stuff packs, except Showtime and Master Suite. It says my Pets (which I use as disk) is "incompatible" with the computer. It's very annoying, because it means I can't play at all. Besides, it means that if new patches are sent out to fix the mistake, I can't get them, because it won't even show the start menu. What can I do?

There's a patch downloader at ModTheSims that will allow you to download and apply the latest patch to your game, even if your launcher won't open.  Do you have the 1.33 patch?  It's possible that will correct things.  You can find the downloader here: http://nene.modthesims.info/download.php?t=409829

Also, I don't know if this will help in your case, but it helps with some things.  You can start the game from the exe file, instead of from the launcher.  To do this, go to your Program Files\Electronic Arts\The Sims 3 Pets\Game\Bin directory.  Once you're there, you'll see a list of files.  Double-click on TS3EP05.exe, and that will start the game, bypassing the launcher.  Of course, if the last patch you applied really screwed up your game, this might not work, either.  We won't know until you try.  But this works to solve a lot of problems with the launcher.

Good luck!

Failing all else, you can do a complete reinstall of the game.  It's a hassle, but it solves a lot of problems and is a good idea in general to keep your game running smoothly.  Be sure to check our Technical Help board for tips and information to make it as easy and successful as possible.

Thank you to both Pam and Corylea!
As it seems like there is a disconnect with my Pets suddenly, and since I've planned to buy both Master Suite and Showtime, I think I'll try to buy them now and see if it will solve the problem if I use another disk to load the game. Once again thank you! :D

Actually, I've heard that Showtime often does not install unless your game is properly patched, so you might still need that patch downloader that I told you about.

Hey! Just came by to say that I deleted and went back to five days ago, where the problems hadn't started yet. That fixed it. And now, I have Showtime too :D
So, thanks for your help! My game works right again!
