Premium Content (which one are worth buying)
« on: March 16, 2012, 04:36:31 AM »
I was doubting about if this is the right place to add this, but I think it will do for now.

This topic is to show gamers which Premium Content will be worth spending the coin into and downloading. The rating is about how much an Premium Content item will improve the actual gameplay of the game or that it will be an object mostly to add for fun. Of course, liking an object or not is just a matter of opinion, but decicions about what to download will be more easy for gamers with some background information about it. I will provide this topic with a list about the object and download links.
Linking to vids you saw on YouTube will be good also, as we than can see the item 'in action.'.

Atomic Jack Planet Attack Pinball Machine
400 simpoints.
An pinball object which can be used to increase both social and fun at the same time. It has new interactions, but the same result can be achieved by playing chess (which also increase the logic skill).
Recommended: If you like to build a game studio or gaming room this is a good item to add. It won't really add new things to your gameplay.
Recommendation: Basegame.

Auto-Noms Automatic Pet Feeding Station
450 simpoints
A automatic feeding system for your pets. You only have to fill it once in a while and after your sim upgrade it to be unbreakable this item will become a very practical machine to have.
Recommended: If you like pets but have little time, this is the item to download. This can really improve your gameplay.
Recommendation: Basegame + Pets.

Classic Gumball Machine
400 simpoints
Just like the title said: a gumball machine that provides sims with gumballs (and if they're lucky: two). It also provides them with a nice little positive moodlet.
Recommended: If you like to create a circus or huge children play room at home this item can give it that little extra. It will not really improve your gameplay.
Recommendation: Basegame.

Lady Ravendancer Goth's Book o' Spells
500 simpoints
I can almost say: the more expansive the content, the better it is. This doesn't have to be true, but in this case it does. The Book of spells is without doubt the most intence premium content you can buy, no matter if you like magic or not. It will provide your sims with a lot of useful spells they can use to make their daily life a lot better.
Recommended: If you like magic and have enjoid Magic in the previous versions of the sims this is definatly the item for you. It can highly improve your gameplay.
Recommendation: Basegame.

Laganaphyllis Simnovorii (aka The Cow Plant)
600 simpoints
I have installed this item but have yet to test it.
Recommended:
Recommendation: Basegame.

Lord Vladimir's Magic Cauldron
600 simpoints
I don't have this item, but I wish I had. Hopefully someone else can provide this list with usefull information about it.
[Recommended:[/b]
Recommendation: Basegame.

Malleable Mimic Voodoo Doll
600 simpoints
I don't have this item, but I wish I had. Hopefully someone else can provide this list with usefull information about it.
[Recommended:[/b]
Recommendation: Basegame.

Sharper Sim Foot Massage Chair
400 simpoints
If you want to buy a sauna with a swimming pool and hot tub, add this little beauty to it. The Massage Chair provides your sims with relaxation you otherwise have to buy at the Spa. It provides your sims with nice moodlets, but the better the moodlet, the longer the time your sim need to use this item.
Recommended: For your luxury sims this can be a great item to use right before leaving the door, relaxed and all. It can improve your gameplay, though there are better moodlets easier to get.
Recommendation: Basegame.

Sharper Sim’s Super Sleeper
400 simpoints
I admit: this item is definately not from this time, but nontheless a must have for sims with little time.
From all your sims needs the Energy bar is the one who needs the most time to completely fill up and it is o so important. Buy this item, and your sim can be energetic in just 4 hours.
Recommended: For sims (or gamers) with little time. This item highly improves your gameplay, but you better love science fiction.
Recommended: Basegame.

Solace Snugabunny Deluxe Baby Swing
500 simpoints
If you have toddlers but little time, this machine can do it for you. Put your little one in it and check back every few hours. The swing will take care of your toddlers needs. If this will make you a better perant is worth a discussion, but for daycare owners this is a must have item.
Recommended: This item highly improves your gameplay, if your sim is a parent, runs a daycare, or both. Highly improves your gameplay.
Recommendation: Basegame.

The Hypnotizer
500 simpoints
I don't have this item, but I wish I had. Hopefully someone else can provide this list with usefull information about it.
Recommended:
Recommendation: Basegame + Showtime.

The Not So Routine Machine
500 simpoints
If you like Science Fiction and to use an easy way to provide your sims with filled needbars while avoiding cheats, this is the item for you. It will help to get your sims needs up very quickly. It can also be used to teleport your sims to certain destinations. There is a change your sim will teleport to other dimensions also.
Recommended: See text above, but also for adventures sims who like some new travel destinations. Be aware, this is a rabit hole kind of thing.
Recommendation: Basegame.

Uber Sani-Sim Toilet
400 simpoints
If your sims like to spend 5000 simdollars on a toilet this one will do it. De description said that it will automatically clean your toilet but this is not always true, though most of the time it will clean itself indeed. It also provide your sims with a choice of three nice music tunes, ambient tones, straight taken from The Sims 1 Buy Mode. It also can wash your sims hands, if they choose to.
Recommended: For luxury sims with too much money on their hand. You better love science fiction before installing this one. Because it can clean itself without your sim upgrading it to do so, it can improve your gameplay.

Vertical Challenge Rock Wall
500 simpoints
Get fit, and earn money doing so. This item is a must have for all sims athletic. Be aware however that you need a little room to add this to your house. And I don't mean this horizontally.
Recommended: For athletic sims who likes a bit of competition to earn some extra cash. This adds a nice new way of earning money while training skills to your gameplay.
Recommendation: Basegame.

Warbling Wind Chimes
250 simpoints
The only reason to buy this one, in my opinion, is when you like the pingling sound it makes. It adds nothing else to your gameplay and your sim also can not interact with it aside from it's first and only reaction when your sim encounter you've add it to their home as a new object.
If you like to buy it, I think the best place for it will be in a sauna, along with a swimming pool, hot tub and massage chair. And that is exactly the way I use this item.
Recommended: If you want to add decoration that provides sound. It won't improve your gameplay.
Recommendation: Basegame.

So, that's the list for now. Please provide me with more info about these items if you have, along with how you use it in your game.

Good list. I've got a few additions.

-The Not So Routine Machine, 500 simpoints
Will help you get your sim's needs up very quickly. You can also upgrade it to teleport your sim. Great for people who like sci-fi things, don't like using cheats and like cool animations.

-Solace Snugabunny Deluxe Baby Swing, 500 simpoints
An absolutely amazing object which will help you get your sims through the very first stage of their lives easily. It will fulfill the need meters and also comes with a couple of cute animations.

-Uber Sani-Sim Toilet, 400 simpoints
Futuristic-looking toilet which can play music, clean itself and increase your sim's comfort and energy when used. Nice object to have in the house.

-Sharper Sim Foot Massage Chair, 400 simpoints
Not really sure what this item does because I don't have it but according to the official description it will "bring home all the benefits of the spa but without the addition of athlete's foot". It also gives a bunch of existing moodlets and comes with new animations.

-Vertical Challenge Rock Wall, 500 simpoints
A really cool item which will help your sims increase their athletic skill and also earn money by holding competitions.

That's all I can add for now.

I have the not so routine Machine and you can't use it without going somewhere.  To start using it you have to decide if you're going to work, school, business or park.  Then it's hilarious to watch your Sim get food shoved in his face plus the other animations.  Full Bladder, Full Hunger and Full Hygiene in about 40 minutes and then auto-teleported to wherever you needed them to be.

Rock climbing wall does not add to work-out hours for cardio or strength in atheletic challenges.

Voodoo doll to bless or curse someone: My sim gave someone a positive moodlet by blessing (forget the exact term), and gave her husband (Hot feet) when she caught him cheating on her.

Cauldron makes potions: for instance 3 butterflies give a vanity potion; 3 fish a sleeping potion. I forget the other spells,  but there is a thread about it.

About the pet feeding station, I wouldn't bother.  There is, after all, a lifetime reward food bowl for pets that you never have to refill.  It takes a little while to earn, but once one pet earns it, the household keeps it.  I wouldn't pay for something that requires more work.

I like the Auto Noms, but my sims still keep rolling wishes to buy a pet food bowl.

If you try and use the cauldron without putting anything in it, the energy bar tanks and the sim passes out.

If you can only afford one item (and assuming you like to play families) I would highly recommend the baby swing - it is the BEST premium item EA has put out so far in my opinion.  The super sleeper and not-so-routine machine are close seconds.  The rest of them that I've tried are fun and add to the game play, but they are kind of niche items and don't give as much bang for the buck as the swing.

After realizing that I still had my 1,000 simpoints from registering the game months ago, I went and bought the cow plant and the super sleeper.

I would like to make an important note that the super sleeper does NOT give you boost to your mood when your sim is fully rested. The Well Rested moodlet will appear but it will have no mood effect. It's still a great item if you need energy quickly and don't want to cheese the game with the motive mobile or moodlet manager but you won't get a mood boost like you would if you used a normal bed.

The baby swing is, in my humble opinion one of the best, if not the best, item for sale in the Store. I've never had so much fun with babies and toddlers before!  ;D

Out of the premium content I have, I like the nooboo swing and the magic cauldron the best. You can just leave your baby in that swing for 10 days and then it's a child! I like the caldron because your sims can conjure items like gems and butterflies which you can then sell.

What exactly is a caldrun?

It's a large metal pot used over an open fire, like you see witches use in movies.
