I never had issues so far with any of the patches except for occasional freezes which seem less now since the 1.33  My daughter keeps losing cats though but that might be a Pet issue since I am not up to date on glitches.  She has the 1.33 patch too and otherwise has had no problems and between her and the kids they play a lot.  We haven't done Simport yet however because we were waiting to see if issues with that popped up again.  I thought I'd hate the social functions with the new expansion but I really kind of like it.  I have even gotten used to all the messages on My Page and it is fun to see what others are doing in their game which surprises me.  I didn't think I cared but I guess I do.  Its convenient to be able to comment or ask a question while you are playing the game.  I am kind of happy about the whole thing actually but then I love the Sims games and just wait out the problems.

Aeh..no problems so far. Thankfully, Shang Simla doesn't lag and freeze on me anymore!

I tend to have loud opinions. So sorry. I got tons of issues, lol. I can also be found on Yahoo! Answers.

Are you online when the freezing happens or offline?  Due to my internet being weird and liking to randomly disconnect for seconds at a time, I've decided to worry about all my SimPort stuff later.  I tend to crash and freeze 10 times more often when I'm signed in while in the game than I do when I'm offline completely.

We haven't done Simport yet however because we were waiting to see if issues with that popped up again.

Simply judging from the way it works now, it's safe to say that those issues are permanently squashed.  Default career outfits can only have hair and makeup that was installed with the game, and neither the hair/makeup nor the outfits themselves can be altered in any way.  Likewise, the Sims are transferred in a completely different way (they no longer show up in your Saved Sims Bin in CAS).  There does seem to be some issues with ported in Sims not showing up to perform, but from what I've heard everyone still gets the benefits for doing it anyways.

Does anyone else have this problem with 1.33?

This problem has existed long before the 1.33 patch (I first heard of this starting at around the release of Late Night), and the more I hear about it, the more I believe that this is a hardware issue more than it is a game issue.  The reason I believe this is because more and more people experience the same thing as they add expansions/patches (patches often add a lot of content), and the people with the technical skills and the financial means to keep their computers upgraded to state of the art almost never complain about this.

The reason you are experiencing it now as opposed to then is possibly because you have just recently added more to this program than your PC is capable of processing.  That's what I think those freezes are:  your computer is trying to catch up.  And it has a lot to keep up on.  The Sims 3 is utterly gargantuan.  I've got all expansions and stuff packs, and my EA folder in "Program Files" weighs in at just under 20 gigs.  I've got no other EA games installed right now, and that's not even including the EA folder in "My Documents."  I promise you that there will be no other single program installed on your computer right now, with the exception of your operating system, that will be bigger than the Sims 3.

I haven't actually done any troubleshooting on this...it's just an educated guess that is based on the wealth of information available on the subject.

I tend to crash and freeze 10 times more often when I'm signed in while in the game than I do when I'm offline completely.

See the above.  When you're online, there's even more data coming in that your processor has to deal with.

@ Hosfac

Here's the thing, though. I shelled out a pretty penny for this computer. Whenever I get a crash report, it says sims is only ever using 46%. I highly doubt it's my processor, Intel i7 2.20 ghz with 8 cpus. In fact this computer model was only released late in 2011. And the specific file that this happens in has a frame rate that plays above 30. In fact, when it does that permanent freeze thing, I'm still getting 40 fps! I'm just frustrated because I can't find a single reason with my computer as to why this is being caused.

I highly doubt it's my processor, Intel i7 2.20 ghz with 8 cpus.

Just as a point of reference:  average processor speeds these days are in the 3-4 ghz range.  When I say that computer technology moves fast, I'm not exaggerating.

2.20 ghz puts you just under the minimum specs for processor speed when running it on Windows 7 or Vista.  The minimum for running the base game and Showtime exclusively is 2.4 ghz.  If you're running more expansions than Showtime, you're going to need a slightly faster processor.  It's not cumulative (i.e. you don't add the system requirements together), but more background processes require a bit more processor speed.

The amount of resources being used doesn't tell the whole story, since programs using your system resources are throttled by your processor speed.  Regardless of what needs to run through your processor, it's only going to run what it's capable of...and that's how it gets backed up.

Imagine a plumbing system with a drain that allows water to pass through it at 1 gallon a minute.  If you pour 1 gallons of water into the sink, it will always take i minute for the sink to drain.  If you pour water into your sink at a rate of 1 gallon per minute, your drain will be able to keep up.  If you pour water in your sink at a rate of 2 gallons per minute, your sink will eventually overflow even if you increase the diameter of your pipes to allow more water to flow through them.  Your drain controls the water flow.

Your processor is the drain, all of the other components on your computer are the pipes, and the program you're running is the water you're pouring into the sink.  Regardless of what else you have inside your case, information will only ever be processed as fast as your processor allows it to.  If you're running a program that needs a faster processor, it's going to "back up" and may even "overflow."  When it overflows, you start seeing things like Error 12 and game crashes/freezes.

However, as I've said this is only one of several possible problems.  There's no way to actually troubleshoot what's going on over the internet.  Other problems could include a faulty install of an expansion or a patch.  We're all well aware by now (or at least should be) that you can get a faulty install even if you do everything the way you're supposed to.  It's a complex program, and a bit flaky by it's very nature.  This is something you can try to fix yourself.

It could also be the result of a circumstance that is not clearly apparent to me.  While everything I know is still pertinent, my knowledge is a bit dated and as a result, not entirely complete.

However, judging from the evidence I've seen since the release of Late Night and what you've told me about your system specs, my "tipping point" theory still holds as a possibility.

@Hosfac, my processor is a intel CEL-E3400 2.6 GHz dual core is that ok? I have a 2g 450gts nividia. I have windows7 32bit. I have error12 once but I get error16 often.

Thank you for the detailed explanation, Hosfac. :) I'm just really frustrated by this freezing since I have to close the game manually and I don't get a crash report. I've never gotten any of the Error 12 or 16 or other numbers. I wish someone could just tell me exactly what the problem is.

I only seem to get a crash report when I make the game shut down on it's own.   As a mac I do this by hitting alt return a lot.  Alt+return for us puts it in window mode.  If the game is crashing it makes the "I can't do that noise." Eventually it will stop making the noise and I know it's going to crash but I get a crash report that way.  Maybe you can do something similar with the PC version.

Well, my fears for 1.33 have been confirmed!

Hello there blue screen of death, lovely to see you!

Seems to happen at exactly the same time in my legacy - 3.15pm, so that's about 7 minutes since the last time I saved on the file. So woo, seven minutes! It's did it twice at that time, I'm letting it cool off right now then perhaps trying it later but to be honest I know the BSoD has absolutely nothing to do with overheating. In this case anyway, because I had literally just started the game and the laptop was as cool as a wind breeze! Grr, though. This better not be permanent or I think I will go mad! I have ErrorTrap and OverWatch installed by the way, if that is of any help to people, though I know people without any mods at all have had this problem.

I'm stunned. My game is so much faster after this patch. I'm going to get a new PC anyway but, wow, has it improved! I spent about an hour playing and it didn't lag once. Of course that was a new file.

MoonsAreBlue; if it is possible, could you please send me a personal message containing a dxdiag scan of your computer? To assist you with your problem in this thread I'll have to digress, so it would be better to discuss your problem through pming.

As far as processor speeds go, I'd think you'd be okay even with most of the expansions installed.  It might get a bit choppy with everything, but you could probably run it.

Error 16 is one I've heard of on occasion, but I'm not exactly sure what it is.  I'll have to look it up.

Edit:  Error 16 is a "loose file copy error."  I'm not 100% sure what that means, exactly, but I'm assuming it's related to the game's (not your PC's) information management system.  From what I've read, here are some steps to maybe help get around it when it happens.

1)  Minimize the game and check your saves folder, and look for a save file with the ".bad" extension.  Delete it if one exists.
2)  Go into "Save As" and save your game with a new name.  Do not attempt to overwrite an already existing file.
3)  You may have to try this more than once.  Give it two or three attempts before giving up on it.
4)  If successful, exit the game and restart it.  This will clear the game's running cache and force it to create a new one.  Deleting your physical cache files might not hurt before starting, either.

So far, this is all that I've found on this.

I have ErrorTrap and OverWatch installed by the way, if that is of any help to people, though I know people without any mods at all have had this problem.

You did update them after patching...right?

Of course, Hosfac. :P I've posted this everywhere, but just in regards to my last post, my laptop has just kicked the bucket anyway because my hard drive is dead - don't worry, it was expected from a six/seven year old laptop! So yea, the Blue Screen may have been the patch, or my laptop muttering it's final words! I guess we'll never know. :P

Hosfac; game error 16 is caused by the game being unable to overwrite the existing save file. You are correct, the "save as..." option should fix it. This error was very common when World Adventures was released because the save file management system was still new and weak at the time (the error itself mainly occurred because the system was quick to get confused and error on the user instead of seeking ways to fix the problem). It was eventually fixed with the patches and the error is less common nowadays.
