Edit town is invalid!
« on: April 23, 2010, 04:13:14 PM »
I just started a new family yesterday and I had triplet girls. so I went to Gunther and broke him and Cornelia up, (I don't know why I'm so fascinated with them!) and then I had my triplet propose to him and they got married. I moved him and Mortimer in then I made the newlyweds try for baby, got the little jingle. Than I went to move him and her out, and travel and move buttons are grayed out! I saved it and it says my family is in the process of a move. Well, I was tired last night so I just saved it and quit. I just went back to them and it still says it! It says I can't move because edit town is invalid! Any ideas on how to get them out? I already have my couple, 2 more of the triplets and Mortimer plus Alabamus and Gunther! They are pregnant, so how do I get them out? HELP!

Right now I'm playing another family cause I already have 7 people and Alabamus and Gunther both have had the fertility treatment and I don't know what will happen! Please help me move Alabamus and Gunther out!

Ok, your root problem is that your game is stuck in "move" mode and won't come back to live gameplay.  Is that correct?

I don't think you'll be able to get the game back where it needs to be.  My suggestion is to restore to the previous save point.  You'll lose what you've recently played, but you should still have the game the way it was when you saved the time before.  Check this thread for instructions on how to restore a previous save file.  Let us know if it works for you.  :)

Thanks Pam. I followed those directions to the letter, went back to it and I still have 7 people, and they still can't move! I've seen posts where you said you did a clean re-install. Can you talk me through that? I'm not computer illiterate, but I'm also not an expert! I think that may be what it needs cause I've noticed for awhile now when I click the icon it takes awhile for it to open!

EDIT-I think I messed up my backup files! I always save 2 or 3 times to make sure it saves. Do you think that's why it didn't work? I've lost 4 hours of real time once cause i forgot to save and the game crashed, which is why I always save 2 or 3 times now.

After you restored the previous save, was the game still in "move" mode?  Or is there a different problem that won't let them move out of the house?

The move and travel button was still grayed out because edit town was invalid.

Yes, that's probably why the restore of previous save didn't work.  Even your previous save had the same problem as the current save because you saved it so many times.

Thanks Pam. I followed those directions to the letter, went back to it and I still have 7 people, and they still can't move! I've seen posts where you said you did a clean re-install. If you do a complete reinstall, you'll probably lose this game file.  I think that the file is corrupt and if you back it up to install back into the game, you'll still have a corrupted file.  When you do a clean reinstall, you have to be willing to give up all of your existing files because of potential bugs and such, which is often what makes a game file run poorly.  Check our Technical Help board for instructions on how to back up your data files and how to uninstall Sims 3, World Adventures, and High End Loft.  Once they are all uninstalled, you just install them again with the CDs, in order of their release.  Or online if you purchased the game as an online download.  You can certainly try to put your saved files back into the newly installed game, but there's no guarantee that they will work properly.

Ok, I had no problem uninstalling it. Now though I do. I re-installed the base game no problems. Than I put in WA and everything went well until I have to register it. I already registered it once, and I can't find my code! I even looked at my account with the sims trying to find it. I have torn my room apart looking for it and I'm extremely upset. Can someone PLEASE help me!

EDIT-I just sent customer support an email I hope they can help me, I'm going crazy! :'(

It's on the back of the WA player's manual that comes with the game. If you've lost the manual, good luck.  :-\ Needless to say, no one on the forum can offer you any workaround solutions as that would entail hacks, etc. I have no idea where codes are stored on PCs. I've you've deleted the registry, it may be hopeless until you hear back from EA.

Yea, I've lost the manual. My sister's coming over in a little bit to help me look cause I called her bawling. I know people might think its stupid to cry over a game, but that game is very important to me!

Hey, there's nothing wrong with becoming emotional when you lose something of large personal value.
*Keeping fingers crossed* Hope you'll find it.

Thanks Swede. As soon as she gets here, nothing in my room is safe until I find it trust me!

EDIT-We looked everywhere. My room and the LR and it's nowhere to be found. EA responded and asked me to give them some personal info which I did, so right now all I can do is wait and worry.

I've got a weird thought. Would the registration code on the base game work on WA as well? I know exactly where that is!

No. Separate registration codes are required for all expansions/stuff packs. Whenever I reinstall the whole tamale I need to put in 3 codes—base game, WA, and HEL.
