I'm not actually sure that it was a smart decision. I know a lot of teenagers, considering I'll be one in May, and I haven't met any other girl who plays sims, at least at my school. Plus, just because they see the Katy Perry doesn't mean they'll want to spend money on that and on the base game.  Also, Katy Perry isn't as big now as she was last summer or even a couple of months ago. If EA had done all this stuff about her then, then it would probably sell better.

She's not very popular in my School either. People acknowledge her and all but nobody actively plays and supports her. A lot of my year actually listen to alternative music or really unique stuff that is individual to them - apart from the 'popular' people that nobody likes. I can't really imagine what is causing the price for a stuff pack of 'Sweet Treats'? That and I'm not made of money either and I doubt many teenage girls are either.

Like Thomas (is it ok if I call you that, samoht?), Katy's not that popular at my school. It's all rap here..Autotuned..

I predict that the game will do soso in scores. I mean, KP's a major modern media icon, yet potentially 2/3 of simmers dislike or don't know her. It's best for EA to reconsider the future SP sponsor if they want our money this time. I'm not buying this if it's Katy, I'm saving my lunch money for better uses...

No. Just no. This is a lie! It can't be Katy!! NOOO!! *jumps through glass window*

I think Jeana was talking about reactions like this. (No offense meant at all!) Some people may actually not like Katy Perry who love sims, and they will automatically not want this SP. I also find choosing Katy as odd, because I don't consider this to be the height of her career or anything. However, out of all the artists EA could have chosen from, I'm glad they picked a good role model. I can't think of any scandals, but some people may have disapproved of "I Kissed a Girl and I Liked It." And for me, that's basically a clean record, haha. But I am convinced that she is only being used to attract a new audience. It's not as if EA got on their forums and did a poll on simmers's favorite artists. And that's why I feel betrayed. :-\

Well one big scandal is her divorce. That's not the point though, she is a better role model than most celebirties they could've picked. It seem that presently all of the once big celebirties are caught up with all these tabloid scandals. Even the president outside of politics.

That's kind of what I was getting at. I was also getting at the fact that the reactions, I was talking about, are no different than the reactions to Sims 2's release of the H&M Stuff Pack. The Katy Perry SP is no different than when TS2's H&M, where all the clothes were H&M outfits, plus build your own H&M Store. I'm sure if this were 2007, we would be having the same reactions: "Eh...no thanks..." or "They should do Hot Topic/Hollister/Abocrombie and Fitch/American Eagle, instead..." I wasn't trying to force anyone into it, and I understand why people would be "eh, no thanks..." but putting this sort of theme into Sims isn't exactly new either, was what I was mostly getting at. I'm sure people who don't like H&M clothing (I like them, but I shop anywhere), weren't rushing out to get the stuff pack, and I wouldn't expect them to either. The Katy Perry in Showtime wasn't exactly new either. I'm not bashing anyone, and I understand why people think Katy Perry promoting Sims is a new thing, EA just came up with, especially if they didn't play Sims 2. That was my main point, as seen here. Also if you were to order a digital copy of Apartment Life, one of the screenshots is Katy Perry singing.

I didn't say you had to go buy it. I said, maybe at least wait until EA releases screenshots and makes the official announcement, before you automatically say no.

I'm one of those collector people so I'll wait and see what's in the SP. I'm going to take a stab at it and say that it might be more enhancements for performers. If that's the case I'll pass it by. I even passed on the new set in the store and that's unusual for me.  I  just don't see any use for more stuff for activities that didn't knock my socks of...i.e. Showtime.

Ah, I get it now Jeana. :) I just can't imagine using "Candy-fornia" items in my game, but I will definitely give the SP a thorough look-over when screenshots come out. Assuming my idea of "Candy-fornia" is at all similar to what EA has planned, I would be most likely to use these SP items for Showtime stages, and I'll be disappointed if I won't be able to do so.

But then again, maybe some modder will come up with a way to use all sims items in Simport! I would enjoy creating a lounge atmosphere on stage.

Given the marshmallow that you can throw at performers, and the title "Sweet Treats," I can't help wondering if the stuff pack might include a confectionery machine, like you got in the Culinary career in Sims 2. Candy furniture -- no; candy -- yes! But this is just speculation.

If the cost of this stuff pack is on par with all of the other stuff packs, I will probably get this.  It will likely have something in it that I'll find useful, even though I barely know who Katy Perry is.  However, I'm not going to pay a brand surcharge.  I'll wait 6 months and pick it up on Amazon for $10 or less before I pay extra for a stuff pack that has the name of someone who's barely famous on it.

And as far as Lady Gaga goes:  don't hold your breath.  This stuff pack is a tie-in with the Showtime Katy Perry edition and if it wasn't for that, they likely wouldn't even bother.  In all likelihood, we're not going to see any more major branding for expansions/stuff packs after this.  Branding is an extra cost, and extra costs lower profits.  The in-game brand names we've seen to date have either been free advertising or product purchase promotions for the most part.  There were the music t-shirts in the store, but look who they were for:  Ozzy Osbourne and KISS.  Those guys would sell the socks they're wearing if they thought they could get a nickel out of them.

And why Katy Perry and not someone like Lady Gaga?  Because Katy Perry needs the publicity and likely came very cheap.  She's old news and her career is in decline, and this is a way for her to get some exposure.  While Lady Gaga would probably have liked the exposure, she doesn't need it enough to let them stick her name on it for what they were probably paying.

Actually, part of the whole reason Katy Perry got a name for herself in Sims is because she had at least one song in the Billboard Hot 100 for over a year (69 weeks/only artist to ever do it for that long).  She's broken a few music records that no one has since Michael Jackson's reign as pop king.   Her first album was Gospel Rock which is where I originally heard of her from.  When she went mainstream, it was a bold move.  I may not like her music but as a person she's interesting.

She had her fingers very well placed in the creation of the Showtime EP because it was going to have her name on it. Personally I like the outfits/hair that came out of that game so it makes me excited to see if this SP will have more of the same.

I'd buy this stuff pack, although if it's more than 10 pounds I don't think I would.  Other stuff packs like townlife and master suite had not enough furniture in. I hope this one has.

Well, Lady Gaga did that promotion thing for Farmville a while ago.. I do agree with you, though. I was just making a point that I would have preferred Gaga, but I never meant that it would actually be likely at all.

I'm still waiting for more info. I know for a fact that I will be doing what Hosfac said about waiting a few months and waiting for the price on Amazon to decrease, because I do that with every SP and EP. Only if I get my new computer for my birthday of course, otherwise I can't buy it because my current laptop reached it's limit after TLS. The only thing making me want this is that it is part of the collection of TS3 packs but that is quite literally it.

EDIT: This might just be a pointless observation, but there has been speculation about Origin listing this pack as 'Katy Perry Sweet Treats' rather than 'Katy Perry Sweet Treats Stuff' as all other SPs are listed as. Personally, I thought the word 'stuff' was implied in the plural of the word 'treats' but hey, the price may imply different. Just thought it deserved a mention. :)

The suggested retail I saw on Sims VIP was 28.99, which is almost 10.00 more than the normal 19.99 for a SP.

Then as far as I'm concerned, they can keep it.  It'll be in the Amazon bargain bin soon enough.

Breaking records doesn't pay the bills.

The problem with the entertainment industry is that if you're not doing something today, you're no longer relevant.  People lose interest and you become a has-been very quickly.  Momentum is a bad thing to lose, and once you start losing that, it's very difficult to get back.  I would literally run out of room in this post if I tried to list all the artists who learned that lesson.  Partnering with video game companies will not get that momentum back.  She needs to release a new CD...and it needs to be something special.  The problem is that it sounds like she's already set the bar pretty high for herself.

Going mainstream from gospel is not as bold a move as it seems.  There have been quite a few artists who have done that before her...two of which that immediately come to mind are Debbie Gibson and Amy Lee from Evanesence.  Heck, Johnny Cash actually went back and forth between the two (and before you say it, Johnny Cash was the first real "rock and roller."  He was trashing hotel rooms before the members of Van Halen were even born).  In fact, it's a foregone conclusion that if someone is singing gospel, but is looking to make a career in the music business, that they're going to jump genres at some point.
