Thanks for the help everyone.

Pam,  I don't remember what I had checked for active household, so I wll check that when I go to move him, and go to edit first to fix the house for him.

My sim family has been very lucky, trips ( I have a hard time selling many of the artifacts), parents careers, plus the kids have been paintng and a couple are getting a nice amount for their pictures.  So the family is very, very rich, in net worth.
But cash on hand, I coluld move three out into a nice home (20,000 approx, with the furniture in it) but it wouldn't leave much cash on hand.   I have in my inventory some nice stuff from the move to the family  home so that will help with one.  The other one, and for the third one to move out soon, I will just cheat and get some money to get them set up.

I can purchase Lifetime Rewards?  They have earned a lot on their own, lots of opportunities, trips with mom's Collection Helper, that brought in some nice items to sell off.
Can they sell his artifiacts and gems/rocks to give themselves some cash on hand (and will they do that?

Thanks again for the help

When I say purchase Lifetime Happiness Rewards, I mean purchase them with the Happiness Points that your Sim earns.  Not that you can purchase them with cash.

You can definitely sell artifacts and gems/rocks.  You just drag the items to the sell box on the Sim's inventory tab.  The more expensive gems and metals will be worth even more if they're cut and smelted.  Carl's Guide has some good information on how to make it the most profitable.  Click here for gems and click here for metals.

I am still having problems in moving my sim YA out of house.  I had set it aside to work on another family,  I bounce around a lot between my families  ;D.
Anyhow, Derek, from the surrounded by family, is number four, and  followed directions and went to edit town, chose the house and did some remodeling, added a couple of bedrooms, bathrooms and enlarged the kitchen, family area.
When in buy mode, I tried to get into my inventory, but it didn't show up.  So I had to buy what I had instead of using it, nice fridge, stove, kitchen table and chair.  Otherwise, no problem, all is fine, roof has no holes or gaps and I go back to the house.
Have Derek click on his cell phone to move.  It makes me think of a book, one side (left) has info, shows the family, the value of house and location.  Other side (right) has Derek's name. Click on house, choose house, he does; are you sure you want to move there, click yes and then it pops up with a triange that states must have enough space and fridge for sims

Derek isn't marked as active household, it is still on the left side, with the rest of family.

So, now what?  If I kick him out he loses everything.  Can I go to whatever home he is sent to and fix it up nd give him his stuff?

Still can't move sim out of household
« Reply #18 on: June 25, 2012, 09:34:59 AM »
I had tagged this onto another topic but I am figuring that it was missed.

Moving a sim out of household, the second born, surrounded by family wish.
I have followed the directions given by Pam and others, had him click move on phone, click on destination, choose home are you sure.  The original family has the checkmark as the active family, not Derek.

It showed the triangle with explaination mark and states that the family can't move there as there is not enough room and wrong fridge.
I had gone into edit town to fix up the house, make it nicer, added a couple of bedrooms, two more bathrooms and enlarged the front/family room andkitchen.  Changed the colors in bedroom, kitchen and family room to the one he likes, and make the rest plain white.

Could the remodeling have been the problem?   I pulled the garage over to make the bedrooms, which enlarged the kitchen and front/framily rooms and a couple (or more) of times tear out wall areas in in order to do some changes.  One was where I  wasn't sure about pulling out a wall with the fireplace, so knocked down the wall and extended the room.
The house wasn't on a foundation and I checked and the roof didn't have any holes.

What am I doing wrong?  I hate to kick him out, he deserves to have a nice home. I am hoping the game will give him a wife and he can have a family.  The same with the others kids who I am going to move out.

It says that he can't move because of a wrong fridge?  What's the exact wording of the message as to why he can't move?

Does the house have a fridge in it? Sims cannot move into a house unless it has a fridge, oven, toilet, shower and bed.

Thanks Pam, it is easy to miss threads, this place is BUSY.

Sorry to be so long in getting back, had the grandkids dropped off two weeks early and stayed a week longer (no surprise there, I was expecting her to pull a stunt like that).  They liked to watch me play the game, so I was able to have some play time.  REFUSED to let them on my computer, did so last year (Spore) and not making that mistake again.

I think I had accidently deleted that town.  I was cleaning up the saved ones and goofed and deleated some saves, on a roll.   but it had stated that there were no beds, not enough room and the fridge was not correct, that was the word used, correct.

I didn't have a bed in the house; so went back and added a bed, changed the fridge and it worked, he is set up in nice home.   Moved the twins out a day later and finally decided to keep the youngest one.

He had a "girlfriend" from school and they had become close; so they married.  Took no time for them them to become eternally faithful, I think it was because they had so much in common.  Both artistic, bookworm and C. Whiz.  Her wish had been Renaissance and he is Ills. Author.  They are expecting their first baby now.

So far, knock on wood, they are all happy.

I have a problem, I was trying to kick out my 3 kids, and I accidently kicked myself out instead of one of the kids, how do I get myself back?

If you have saved, you can start from that section.  If you haven't, then I don't know what can be done.  I know that you can invite someone to move in with you. So, maybe you can invite the kids to move in with you.

Not sure what to do exactly, I know I have read somewhere here about moving back in with family.  So, someone should be able to be of more help than me.

You can use one of the remaining household members to ask your Sim to move in to the house. It's under Friendly.

Also, you can use testing cheats to add yourself back in to the household. Enable testing cheats (Ctrl+Shift+C then type testingcheatsenabled true), then invite yourself over. Shift+click (hold the shift key down while you click) on the Sim and select the option "Add to Household." To disable testing cheats, hit Ctrl+Shift+C and type testingcheatsenabled false.

I need help and don't know how to make a new thread, so I hope someone sees this :)
The kids have moved out(bought them new houses, did not kick them out), and everything is fine, but my sims wants to be grandparents, and the kids are single, and without jobs all the time. Are they living their life? Is this normal is propobly what I'm asking :P

Unfortunately, that is normal. EA's Story Progression has been pretty much broken for the past two years. If you want them to have grandparents, you could try moving one of the kids back into the household, get them a spouse, then get them to manually Try for Baby, then move them out once they have the baby.

As for starting a new topic, all you have to do is go into the sub-forum you want to post in and click, "New Topic"

I've heard there is a quicker way to change active household that's quicker than exiting to the main menu, is it in the options menu? If not, where is it?

I can't play sims right now to check so can you tell me?

Fortunately you never have to exit to main menu to change active household. Just go to Edit town and click on the two little houses on the bottom left of the screen. Or you could click on the house and family that you want to change to, and then click the button Switch to this household.
