Diana is such a typical mother (in a good way) I must say that you really captured the idea of a family, I mean everything is so real to life, problems and all. Great Chapter!

Great chapter! Do you have Angel under your control in the household?

No she's not actually. I have Twallan's Master Controller mod that lets me change her clothing.

That's so funny, I hadn't noticed the Charlie and Angel thing before! To me, Angel is a boy's name. I blame a certain show.

Anyway, I wanted to say that while Diana did act a little selfishly, I completely bought her motives, and I think she's a good person at heart. I love that the story isn't black-and-white: Gobias wasn't a complete bad guy and Diana isn't a complete good guy. They're all complex and real. Great chapter!

Not sure how I missed this comment, but thank you! I'm very glad that you think I've captured family well, which is a big compliment to my writings skills since I've had a very atypical family experience.

Yes, Diana is a good person. She just has very poor relationship skills. To be honest, I have Twallan's Story Progression installed in this file, and I had no idea Gobias was going to have a child with Dorie. I love how this mod gives me material to work with instead of me having to come up with 90% of the ideas.

Ch. 9: Coincidence

Allison recently became friends with a girl at school, Mia Jolina, daughter of Jamie Jolina and Xander Clavell. They quickly became the best of friends, even though Mia lived across town.

Allison only went over to Mia’s house a couple of times. Mia had four brothers and sisters, and Jamie was pregnant again. Allison thought her house was way too crowded, but while she was Mia’s house, someone took notice of her cute brother Quinton.

Charlie finished his first book, “Everyone Has a Bladder.” He earned ten simoleans per chapter and received sixty-five simoleans per week in royalties. Charlie was very pleased with himself.

But one dreadful night, a burglar was found breaking into the Waldron home. Diana didn’t know it, and the children were sound asleep. Diana woke up to the sound of a door closing. She knew it couldn’t have been her children. The closing door would have sounded louder since the bathroom was upstairs. As soon as she heard footsteps on the stairs, Diana slipped out of bed. She tiptoed to her bedroom door and peaked out to find a burglar. He had snuck in right through the front door, past the sleeping Luke and Rosie, and upstairs to Charlie’s room.

Diana tiptoed back into her bathroom to give the police a call. Perhaps he hadn’t seen her. If Diana had been a braver person, she would have thrown herself onto the accursed burglar and fought him all the way down the stairs. She was not brave though, and sat silently on her bathroom toilet until she heard the police sirens.

She immediately ran into her children’s rooms, first Charlie’s then Allison’s. The two of them were sound asleep, but Diana saw that the burglar had taken Charlie’s computer!

She then ran downstairs to see if he had taken anything else. It was one thing to take her own belongings, but to steal a computer that Charlie had saved up for was unforgiveable. The sirens gave Diana confidence so that if she saw the burglar, she would attack like a mother bear.

As she was descending the stairs, she saw the burglar rounding up the living room couch.

She quickened her pace, but thankfully the policeman entered the home just then and beat Diana to throwing the first punch at the burglar. Caught by surprise, the burglar was then arrested, and Diana’s belongings were returned to her.

The police officer helped Diana replace the couch before he left. Diana then went upstairs and then replaced Charlie's computer. How in the world did he and Allison both sleep through all the commotion?

Diana never really fell back to sleep. She didn’t enjoy sleeping anymore. Nightmares taunted her. Images of Gobias alone in his house crying recurred nightly. And in waking, whenever she saw Charlie and Allison, she was reminded of what she had done to Gobias. It was an inescapable cycle.

The morning came with the purchase of a burglar alarm. So long as she could help it, Diana was not going to let another burglar threaten the safety of her home.

That afternoon, Rosie gave birth to three adorable puppies. To the left is Jazz, in the front is Rufus, and the one in the back right is Leroy.

Allison, being the dog person that she was, couldn’t have been happier. There was an adorable puppy around every corner, and Allison wanted nothing more than to roll around in the floor with them all day long.

Diana had saved up a good deal of money for an upgrade to the house, although, Luke certainly helped by bringing home a couple of Supernoviums. Diana was a little torn between adding a dining room or buying a new television for the living room plus upgrading her bedroom furniture. She went with the former, and a spacious dining room was added.

There was even some money left over to make a new grilling patio. For a split second, Diana thought she might have been in the wrong business. She could have been a great architect!

It was getting close to time for a double birthday. Charlie and Allison both would be aging into their next stages of life. Before making birthday plans, Diana made a call, and Claire arrived at the Waldron house not five minutes later.

“Claire!” exclaimed Diana. “It’s so good to see you. It’s been a while since we’ve been able to catch up. I’m so sorry about that. Have a seat.”

“Oh, that’s quite alright, Diana. No need to apologize,” said Claire. “We’ve all been busy.”

“Now listen,” said Diana as she sat down across from Claire. “Charlie and Angel are almost young adults now. My Charlie is really so infatuated with your Angel. I have a feeling he’s going to ask Angel to marry him sometime soon. How do you feel about that?”

“Diana, I think Charlie is a wonderful boy. Angel has told me so much about him.” Claire added almost as an afterthought, “She really is in love with that boy of yours.”

“I think Charlie feels the same way,” replied Diana. “I’m going to ask Charlie about it later, but if he does plan on proposing, I would gladly welcome you and Angel both into our family.”

Claire reminisced, “Oh, do you remember when they were only children running back and forth between our yards?”

“It seems like only yesterday,” replied Diana dreamily.

“They’ve just grown up so fast.” Claire sighed and shook her head. “I’m sorry about Gobias. I know we’ve never talked about him, but I’m sure his death was difficult.”

“Oh, that’s alright, Claire. He was never really around, so the children didn’t know if they were missing anything.”

“Well,” Claire said slowly, “I didn’t mean that about Charlie and Allison. Gobias’s death must have been hard on you, Diana.”

“It was bound to happen sooner or later,” said Diana airily. “He was getting old.”

“That’s not what I meant…” trailed Claire.

“I know.” Diana sighed. “I just haven’t put my feelings together yet. All of this ‘being occupied’ stuff hasn’t given me much time to reflect.”

“Sounds to me like you’re avoiding thinking about him more than anything,” remarked Claire.

Diana chuckled. “You might just be right, Claire. I just don’t feel the need to organize my thoughts, though.”

“Well, as long as you’re happy,” concluded Claire. “That’s all that really matters anyways.”

The conversation reassured Diana. She should have confided in Claire more often in the past, but it was too late now. Maybe they could at least grow old together and sip coffee while they watch their grandchildren grow up.

Diana spent the rest of her day making big plans for the big shebang tomorrow. Allison was going to age into a teenager, and Charlie was finally going to become a young adult and graduate from high school. Everyone was invited.

The next day, the family went to the town hall to see Charlie’s graduation. He was valedictorian, and voted Most Likely to Earn a Million Simoleans. Diana tried so hard not to cry throughout the whole ceremony. Charlie was officially grown up.

Diana just couldn’t keep her pride inside any longer and she gave Charlie a congratulatory hug.

After the ceremony, Diana took Charlie to the bistro to eat. She went on endlessly about how proud she was of him and how handsome he was in his graduation gown. She went on and on about how much she loved him and how happy she was for him. She kept gushing out other motherly things until she was just about to come around to asking Charlie about Angel.

“Mom,” interrupted Charlie. She was starting to embarrass him. “I’m going to ask Angel to marry me.”

“What!” cried Diana, genuinely shocked. She’d planned on asking him what he thought. She didn’t expect him to have already made his mind up. “That’s great, honey! I’m so happy for you! When are you going to do it?”

“I’m not sure yet.” Charlie shrugged. “I really want to ask Claire’s approval, though. I don’t know if I could go through with it if she didn’t want me to. Claire is the only family Angel has.”

“I’m sure she’ll be fine with it,” replied Diana as she smiled inwardly. “We ladies like to gossip, you know.”

“Really?” asked Charlie. “What has she said about me? I’ve always been a little intimidated by her. Angel is really close to her mom, and I didn’t want to embarrass myself in front of her.”

Diana laughed. “Why don’t you go ask her? I bet she’ll be happy for you and Angel.” What a coincidence it was that she had only talked to Claire about this very engagement a few days ago!

“Alright,” said Charlie with finality. “I’ll go over there tomorrow. If Claire gives me her blessing, I’ll ask Angel to marry me that very day.”

“Really, Charlie! Oh, that’s wonderful news!” Diana paused a moment. “Wait, do you even have a ring yet?”

“No, Mom,” replied Charlie sarcastically. “I’m going to propose to the love of my life with a keychain.”

“Oooh, let me see it! Let me see it!” shrieked Diana. She drew a slow breath as Charlie opened the jewelry box for her. “Oh, Charlie…” sighed Diana. “It’s gorgeous.”

“I used to money from Gobias to buy it.”

Diana furrowed her eyebrows. “But Charlie, that money was for you to get a house. And now that you’re getting married, you’re definitely going to need that money.”

“I’ll have to discuss this with Angel,” began Charlie, “but her mother is getting old. I think I’m just going to move in next door. The house is already paid for, and besides, I couldn’t think of anything better to spend my money on than this ring.”

“Oh, Charlie…” Diana’s eyes welled up with tears. She thought she’d been cried out already. “You couldn’t make me a happier mother!”

One of the best chapters so far! Jamie Jolina is another favorite of mine so it was fun for her kids to be in the story. I can't wait for the wedding! (please don't throw in a curveball and cancel it!)
If at first you don't succeed, call it version 1.0.

Cancel it? Angel hasn't even said yes yet! ;) I really like Jamie Jolina too, and she has six kids in my game! It'd be hard to not have any of them show up further on in the story.

Thank you so much! I can't wait for that either, but I would probably blubber too much for him to understand if I said yes or no, haha.

What a beautiful chapter. I hope Angel will say yes! Although the story is called Waldron Woes... I hope Charlie doesn't get them as bad as his mom!

Aww what a sweet chapter! Again, you really capture the family feeling without making it cheesy and unrealistic. Great job as usual.
