The Waldron Woes: Ch. 12

Ch. 1: Why Not?

On her first day in Sunset Valley, Diana Waldron found herself strolling down the beach and in the end, she was drawn to a beautiful home. She had always loved the beach, which is why her own home was near it. She met a man named Gobias Koffi.

Gobias invited her inside. “My, my Diana, what could have brought such a beautiful young woman to this little town?”

Diana replied, “Well, I love the beach. I finally had enough money saved up to move away from home, and I considered moving to Appaloosa Plains or Riverview, but when I saw the beach here, I fell in love.”

“I don’t think you’re the only one falling,” cooed Gobias.

His comment was off-putting. Diana didn’t plan on getting into a relationship (and she certainly wasn’t committed enough for one), but Gobias was a nice older gentleman, kind of cute even. Maybe he could help out her financial situation or take her on dates to eat fancy food. Either way, Diana wasn’t feeling particularly reserved that day.

“Okay, I guess I need to be honest with you, Gobias,” Diana said. “While I do really love the beach, the real reason I came here was because I needed a change in scenery. I plan to have no inhibitions and have the time of my life.”

Diana only did it because she couldn’t think of a reason not to.

The rest of her day was filled with little experiences. After leaving Gobias’s, Diana headed for the elementary school. Diana was an only child growing up, but she had a couple older cousins. She found herself enamored with their children and that’s when she decided she wanted to be a school teacher. There was a certain amount of pep in her step as she hummed to herself while climbing the stairs to the school.

Later that night, Diana even managed to cook a meal without burning the house down. It was only a salad, but she remembered someone telling her that lettuce had to be boiled. Whatever the case truly was, it was a miracle that the food was edible. Soggy, but edible.

The next day, Diana began her first day at work. Her only goal was to learn her third graders' names by the end of the day, and she succeeded. Diana was feeling particularly good about herself by then, and she went out to meet one of her next door neighbors, Claire Ursine. She seemed like a very nice woman, and Diana hoped to befriend her in the future.

However, the future spun to a brief halt when Diana felt her stomach churning. After hurling into the toilet, she knew something was wrong. A pregnancy test revealed that she was indeed pregnant.

It took a few hours of mental deliberation for her to get the courage up to do the right thing. She called Gobias and asked him to come over under the pretenses of a friendly visit.

After watching television for about ten minutes, Diana found herself becoming unbelievably drowsy. “I’ll just take a nap until Gobias gets here,” she told herself. “Surely the doorbell will wake me up.”

Hours passed before Diana woke. Gobias never showed. “I can’t believe he never showed,” Diana said aloud as she paced the length of her living room. “Is he really as inconsiderate as to ditch me already!?” She continued to pace and considered calling again, but she knew he wouldn’t answer. He clearly didn’t want anything else to do with her. Diana left the house, slamming her front door shut, and walked down to the beach.

This thing in her stomach was just going to be an obstacle for her future. How could she have already mucked up her plans? This lovely town was supposed to be a catalyst for something exciting, not… this. Single motherhood. Yes, she knew she would have to be a single mother. Gobias wouldn’t even come see her when she explicitly said “friendly,” so there’s no way he would want a child with someone who he had already thrown away. But… what if she didn’t have to keep the child? There was always adoption, wasn’t there?

Great story! The first sim I ever made had twins with Gobias Koffi! Lets hope that Gobias and Diana's genes mix better than my sim and his did!  :P

Ick.  She must have been desperate for the experience ;D

It looks like she is left holding the bundle.  Interesting start and I look forward to reading more about her.

Ch. 2 Certainty

Diana picked up a book from the bookstore about the adoption process. She learned about the different types of adoption. She learned of a type that included giving her baby away and never seeing it again, a type that included periodic updates, and even a type that even if she decided to keep her baby right after birth, she could. Diana knew that if she was going to do give her baby up for adoption, she would choose a closed adoption and give her baby to a loving family whom she never heard from again. That would be preferable.

While adoption seemed to be the most reasonable choice, it was still stressing Diana. She never imagined she would be contemplating this. Older men like Gobias were supposed to be responsible and refined. It was the men around her age she couldn't trust. Not after her father left her mother while she was so young. Her mother re-married to a sensible and older man after that. He never left. Now it seemed Gobias wouldn’t even stay.

She decided to get out of the house. One thing she’d wanted to do was sing karaoke. She wasn’t good by any means, but maybe being pregnant too would keep some of the crowd from laughing at her too much.

Diana got up on the stage, and there actually weren’t too many people. Most were either at the bar or talking amongst themselves. However, someone had made an appearance and seeing him surprised Diana enough to stop singing immediately and confront him. It was Gobias! He ignored her and then went to a bar the next day, and he’s having fun! He shouldn’t be having fun. He should be as stressed out as she is.

Maybe she shouldn’t have gone in screaming, but that’s what felt appropriate at the time. “Why didn’t you show up yesterday?! I waited all night!” shouted Diana.

“Whoa,” replied a surprised Gobias. “What about hello?”

“Answer my question.”

“I got caught up with stuff,” Gobias said with the wave of his hand.

Diana kept a steady gaze on him. There was no way she was letting him off the hook. “Why didn’t you call and tell me you weren’t coming over?!”

Gobias raised his voice but contained his anger through clenched teeth, “Calm down, Diana!”

“Now what in the world, “Gobias continued, “was so important about my not going to your house last night that is making you attack me like this?”

“Oh as if you can’t figure it out,” replied Diana. “Just look at me! I look like a blimp!”

Gobias stared at her incredulously. “What are you talking about? You look…” He slowly eyed her and a look of uncertainty came over his face, “You look fine, Diana.”

“Well, I’m not fine. I’m pregnant. And it’s yours.”

“Oh…” Gobias went silent.

“Really? You’re not even sorry? No ‘Oh Diana how incredibly rude of me, I’m so sorry I blew you off!’ Or ‘Hey, congratulations. Do you want to move in so I can support you?’ Not that I would, but still.” Diana sighed. “I’m just really stressed about all of this. This is the last thing I wanted.”

“Look, had I known that was why you wanted me to come over, I would have.” Gobias looked away as he asked the next question, “So uh, what do you plan to do with the baby?

Diana scoffed, “Well I hardly imagine you want to raise it with me, and I’m sure I sound like a really wonderful mother right about now.”

“Now, I never said that. If that’s what you wanted, I guess we could try to work things out,” Gobias suggested.

“Honestly, that’s the next to last thing I want,” said Diana. “I plan on putting it up for adoption.”

“Really?” Gobias asked. “Are you sure that’s what you want?”

“Yes. I’m not ready for a baby, and I can’t afford to support one.”

“Well, if it’s money you’re worried about… I’m very comfortable. I could help.”

Diana laughed, “You say that as if I haven’t made my mind up! No, I’m definitely giving the baby away. You can keep your money. It’s about time for me to go, though. My swollen ankles are irritating me.”

“Ok,” Gobias said, “Call me if you need anything.”

Diana promptly left the bar and went home.  It was hard to believe everything that was happening. She was supposed to be at home on the phone with her new best friend while grading her student’s tests. But everything was all wrong. Instead, the only person she’d spent any amount of time with was now the father of her unborn child, and she’d only been to work for one day before she had to take maternity leave to deal with… whatever was to come.

The next morning, Diana woke up with a creaky back. Hopefully it could be fixed with a quick trip to the spa. She didn’t have a lot of money, but she didn’t foresee any large expenses in the near future.

Little did she know that she would go into labor halfway through her massage. What’s worse is that as she was running out of the spa, she caught sight of Gobias Koffi flirting with another woman. It made Diana smile right through the contractions that the woman seemed to want nothing to do with him.

But upon hearing Diana’s screams of pain, he quickly ran over to her, and he started jumping around and pulling his hair to let out his nervous energy.

Somehow, the two of them managed to make it to the hospital in time. Hours later, Diana knew with complete certainty that this baby was not going to be adopted. She was going to work and support this child. She would have to. She’d already fallen in love with him, her dear son, Charlie.

What was she thinking?

Who said he's out of the picture? ;)

Again, thanks for the comments! This story is a bit different than what I usually do, and I'm having to play a couple chapters ahead to make sure everything lines up right. Just keep tuned for the next chapter!
