maximum number of sims is unlimited

That is an Error 12 just waiting to happen, unless you are restricting the number of residential lots available in town.

Could I slow down the rate at which they happen by increasing the time between mod cycles using 'adjust speed' in the general options?

Increase the "Cooldown: Partner to Breakup", and reduce "Cheat Discovery Chance". :)

You can set specific day amounts between moves, new relationship after break up, etc. I'm sorry I can't remember where exactly it is located but I assume it was on the setting for "All sims".
When I first started my game (and many townies were still looking for a spouse), it felt like the townies were changing partners and moving very often. So I changed those day amounts higher. I didn't change the speed. The pace seems to have cooled down a lot.

There are still some sims who simply can't seem to stay in a relationship (Jared Frio and VJ Alvi) - I guess it's because they just are rude. It's fun, actually.("Personalities" of the progression affect, I assume)

About the moving thing - Most EA built houses don't really have enough cribs, single beds etc. Especially in SV, some large family homes have no cribs and only 1 bed for a child! So I recommend adding beds because StoryProgression checks the bed amount and moves the family out when they get more children, if there are not enough beds.

Thank you, Twallan and Noodles!

Do you have a recommendation on maximum number of sims for Starlight Shores that will be less likely to cause an error 12 but that won't prevent my active household from getting pregnant because all the townies have already maxed out the population?  If I haven't edited the town to place lots or change existing lots I would think population size would be limited by the existing number of residential lots, but since I'm not a programmer perhaps I'm thinking about it in the wrong way.

I will definitely go in and tweak the settings you recommended.  I love how much more lively my town seems with this mod.   ;D

Twallan, at the risk of sounding like a complete and utter fangirl, I am incredibly impressed by the amount of thought and work that you have put into developing and maintaining your suite of mods, as well as the time you (and other mod developers like NonaMena) spend answering questions in the various sim communities.

Katluvr you won't have to worry about it preventing your house from getting pregnant. If your sim has a nooboo and the town is overpopulated then Grim will go calling on someone in the town randomly. I overpopulated Barnacle Bay when I first installed SP. Twallan correct me if this has changed in the past year or so.

Thank you, Nicky!  I guess I misunderstood how overall population is controlled using this mod.  Out of curiosity, if I do exceed the population limit will Grim only visit a non-active household/NPC or is there a chance that a member of my active household could get killed off?  That would be a pretty steep penalty for a little woo hoo!   :o

+1 here! Specially Story Progression, it's so amazing! I don't think I could ever have enough fan with EAs Story Progression again, after playing with the mod.  ;D I had to uninstall it to install Showtime and I miss it so much! I'm going to download the updated version right now.

No I don't think so. From what I've read, Story Progression is only for inactive Sims, whether it's EA version, or Twallan's or any others. It's the simulation "engine" that manages the others Sims while we play with one specific household. There is no need of this simulation stuff for the active Sims since... we manage them ourselves. So, let them have their little woohoo  ;)

I only would read about it in the paper. So it's only non-active households. In my case Grim liked going after the toddlers and infants.

I keep waiting for that to happen, playing in Union Cove, using the Saver, and been going for almost 3 sim weeks, and no Error 12 so far.

NickyDuvyrda, you can have the map tags with Story Progression Extra.  I can't live without them either.  ;D

You're a lucky guy Branr!

I play in Sunset Valley or Riverview most of the time, no CC, using ErrorTrap and Overwatch... and I still get the Error 12 pretty often. Luckily I use Saver too so I've never lost too much progress anyway.

NickyDuvyrda is incorrect.  If you exceed the population limit in [StoryProgression] the mod simply stops creating new sims, it stops all new pregnancies, and all progression-related immigration.

It does not start killing sims randomly.  Such is the function of EA Story Progression, not mine. :)

I keep waiting for that to happen, playing in Union Cove, using the Saver, and been going for almost 3 sim weeks, and no Error 12 so far.

And how many sims do you actually have in town ?  I limit my legacy town to 150, and it sits at 2GB in memory usage on loadup.

I have heard of users having 500 sims in their towns, however such towns can only be played for a couple of hours before the game runs out of memory and crashes. :)

Now that you mention that, my game crashes a lot. I have no idea what's wrong since I have a decent graphics card and play with graphics in medium/low. If I set the mod so that the amount of Sims in my town is smaller, would that help? I've tried literally every possible solution I've found here and on EA's technical support center, and also MTS and other forums. I'm using ErrorTrap and Overwatch too and they help a little, but the game still crashes once or twice a day and it gets more and more annoying everytime I play, so I will try anyhthing that anyone tells me to do  ::).

That sounds like a reasonable thing to try, Frey.  Do you tend to play for a long time at a sitting?  From what I've read it may help to limit your game play to a couple of hours at a time - not sure if this is true if you are using Overwatch as it seems to clean up a lot of the things that cause memory leak as you play.

Nope, I don't. They game won't let me, LOL. It crashes after 4 - 5 sim-days, even sooner sometimes.  :-\
