Question about Twallan's Story Progression
« on: March 07, 2012, 05:07:50 PM »
Hi!

I just installed Master Controller, Story Progression and Master Controller's add-on Story Progression. I have to say that I absolutely love it! It's a lot more fun than EA's Story Progression  ;D.

Anyways, I have a question: Can I set the mod's messages (like saying that this or that townie just flirted with someone, and so on) so that only some of them will pop up? My game tends to lag whenever I get them (not only with the mod, but all the time), so I would like to get only the messages I care about, but I have no idea how to do it or if it's actually possible.

There is a way to set those messages. It's been so long ago that I had it installed that I've forgotten. Hopefully, a recent user will see this and explain how. Also, does anyone experience serious lag with Twallan's Story Progression? The main reason I uninstalled was the huge lag I suddenly got.

Hmmm. I'm not sure. I don't get any lag while playing except when messages pop up, but my game has always lagged with messages. The mod increases the amount of messages that I get, so it causes more lag... but it's only message-related. I've only had the mod for about 2 hours though  ;).

I believe it's NRAAS>Story Progression>General Options>Stories. If I'm wrong, visit the documentation site for Story Progression's interactions and Ctrl+F for "Stories". There is a way to choose whose stories you want to see. :)

Thanks! I found it :) I hadn't seen the Documentation thing on the website.

Here's the link to Story Progression's FAQ in case anyone is interested in the Stories' settings  :)

NickyDuvyrda, I found that using Story Progression Expanded and all the personalities, eventually lagged my machine.  These days I just use Story Progression and Story Progression Extra (for the map tags).  I have also turned off the different colours for the map tags as well.  I don't get all the fun stories but these days I tend just to care about my active family anyway and not worry too much about what the rest of the towns people are up to.  I can always peek on them with Home Opener anyway.

Figwit, thanks for the tips. I'm debating on reinstalling once I'm done with my dynasty. You may be right about the Expanded. I was using that when it was lagging. Boy do I miss those map tags though.

Well, I changed the Stories settings and now I'm getting only a few messages every now and then. My game has stopped lagging  :). But I don't have the Expanded version of the mod. Maybe I will download and have a look at it. If I get any lagging I can always uninstall it.

I was hoping someone asked this question.  I was thinking that might have been the setting I needed to change, but I was afraid that changing it would affect the function of the mod.  I was looking on the Interactions page, and never found the FAQ.  The FAQ is much more clear.  ;)

It is! I didn't find the FAQ at first either, I only saw it after birdy mentioned the Documentation site that I actually noticed there was a FAQ section.

There are a few ways to modify which stories you receive: first, all stories can be filtered by the various types: blood, friend, enemy, romantic, etc.

Next, each category or story (career, skill, romance, friendship, etc.) has an option to filter which stories you see.

You can also choose individual sims and modify their filter by using the Force Stories option.

In my town of 214 human residents and 109 service sims (yeah, I am running Union Cove hardcore), I set stories to friends, enemies, romantic, blood, and then picked Force Stories to a few select sims I always want to keep an eye on.

Also, realize that filtering out the stories won't keep them from happening (and using computer processing power), it will just keep you from seeing the stories.

I just installed Story Progression over the weekend and have been using it in my Starlight Shores file.  One thing I noticed is that the townies have basically taken over every unoccupied home in the town - the only real estate available if my family wants to move are the empty lots.  Is this normal?

Thanks Branr! I know they will still happen, and I like that. It's just that messages (either EA or the mod's ones) tend to make my game freeze. Whenever they pop up my game stucks for around 15 seconds. It's not that bad, I know, but the mod pops up the stories a lot more often than the vannila game usually does, and my laptop doesn't really like that.

I actually like the messages though, it gives the whole game a new and very fun style, that's why I wanted to keep some of them. I changed the settings to Friends and Blood only and now it runs a lot smoother  ;D.

I have no idea if it's normal or not, but I've been playing with the mod for about a week and the world I'm playing in has plenty of houses available. Some new families have moved in, but not that many. But maybe that's like a random thing?

Yes this happened when I used it in Barnacle Bay during the beginnings of my Millham Legacy. I figured out it was all in my settings. Check your settings on how the mod moves new families in, pushes for people to move, etc. I had mine set way to high for population. Turn it down a notch so townies aren't so antsy to move. The last version of the mod I used was long ago. So I cannot tell you exact spots.

Thank you, Nicky - I'm experimenting with the different settings to find what will work for me.  I also found that there are still a few unoccupied homes - I just moved my sims to a great beach house in Starlight Shores.

One other question - I'm using default settings except for the following:  maximum number of sims is unlimited, testingcheatsenabled false.  My game uses normal lifespans.  It feels like my townie sims are hooking up and breaking up at an alarming rate (allow breakup is yes for all conditions).  It's pretty funny actually - one day sims are getting married and quite literally the next sim day they are splitting up.  It feels to me like the mod is shuffling the sims and dealing them out in pairs at random very frequently - I know this is a gross overgeneralization and not how it actually works, I'm just reporting my reaction is all.

My question is this - is there a way to fine tune the mod options to allow breakups but have them occur less frequently.  From what I have read in the Nraas documentation it appears that there are only two states for 'allow breakups', either true or false.  Could I slow down the rate at which they happen by increasing the time between mod cycles using 'adjust speed' in the general options?
