SimPort
« on: March 06, 2012, 05:07:30 PM »
I'm not too excited about this feature, but I'd like to hear people's experience with this thing. I just hope it doesn't come with a bunch of new bugs.

On a simport-related note, the Facebook page for sims story "Tom and Anabelle" has said that the "unlockoutfits on" cheat unlocks simport clothing. I noticed this screenshot when browsing through my news feed. I googled it but still no reliable sources to confirm this.

I haven't tried it yet, but there's not really a whole lot that I can see being able to go wrong with it.  The two people's games don't directly interact with each other.  You don't even have to be online at the same time, and there's a 24 hour window to accept/refuse requests.  If you ignore them they're automatically cancelled.  My guess is that all sim imports/exports are handled through the Sims 3 website, with a system similar to the Exchange...and since that's already a tried and tested system, you're not likely to encounter many bugs in relation to it.

I'm only theorizing, however.

Are there people here that would like to use simsport and will take and send requets for their sims? I'm looking for people to try simsport with. So far I haven't found that many. Most of my friends don't have showtime and will not get it.

I'd be cool with it. I've got the same name on the official site. :)

Sunny - people interested in being friends put their name on the Sims 3 User Site Name thread.  There is a list in the beginning and if you're on the forums most people will accept the friend invite.

Sunny, I've already got you on my friends list.  I got my copy of Showtime yesterday and I'm happy to host your sims when I play.  As soon as I have a performer at a high enough level I'm going to start sending out requests, too, so hopefully my simmies can perform in your town.  :)

Before you simport you might want to read this thread on the sims site.

http://forum.thesims3.com/jforum/posts/list/510505.page

Bellacho made a thread, first one in this category and has the same link.  Might be wise before you simport your simmies. :)  Just saying.

Before you simport you might want to read this thread on the sims site.

Pay particular attention to the part where Crinrict says that the CC that transfers is attached to the sim in your bin, and isn't exactly downloaded.  Deleting the sim gets rid of it.  Or at least seems to.

Wow! Thanks for linking to that thread. Well that was unexpected. Especially this:

Quote from: SimsVIP_Admin
Any sim that you host is auto saved in your downloads folder, and in the Sim bin. Any Sim you send out, will be in your Exports folder. I have tested Simport and CC exchange the last two days, and nothing has gone through. Having the Sims of those you host in your game, is normal. It was the same way during beta

I really don't know if I want hundreds of extra sims in my bin. Or to remember to delete them afterward. And all this just when I'm running out of HDD on my default C: drive.

I can understand that people will have reservations about reports of cc transferring but all I know is when the unknown cc tattooes transferred on the sim I downloaded, it ruined part of my game.  As long as people are informed, I believe they can make their own decision.  It's my decision not to simport with multiple people. :)

Seriously...you're actually expecting to SimPort hundreds of times?

It is always wise to be extra cautious.  I personally do not have any CC, but from past experience with things that attach to files and items, still an area for concern.  Not sure what happens if someone has meshes and skins on their sims and they decide to simport.  Maybe nothing will happen, who knows.

Well maybe that was indeed a bit exaggerating. Not hundreds of times, but not once or twice either. Now that I read up on it, I think that it's a good feature and would like to use it.

Lol, okay, I'll let you have that one.  I'm prone to gross over-estimation for dramatic effect sometimes.  :P

Do we know if it's just CC associated with Sims eg. clothes, tattoos, make up and such that is transferring with the Sim? I have a few items of CC in my game, but it is all mainly build items, I have nothing that would be applied in CAS.
