Singing
« on: March 06, 2012, 02:01:26 PM »
I don't have Showtime yet, however I was wondering how the Singing thing works since there are no new skills. Is it joint to the Charisma Skill or is it just the more you do it the better you get? Are there any real-life simlish songs. Like, can my Sims sing 'Born this way' or something, Lol.  :)

The more you do the singing grams, singing for tips,  and gigs you perform the better you sing. The virtuoso trait seems to be helping too. As for songs, being an older lady, I don't recognize them...but they sound good. It doesn't look like you can choose which song to sing. At least that option hasn't come up for me yet. The audience reactions are a kick...so funny!

It's a lot like an Ambitions profession in that the higher you get in your career, the more you can do.  You start out doing Sing-O-Grams, and then as your sim gets levels in their career they unlock the abilities to perform at bigger venues.  At level one, my sim has a single song she can perform, and she actually sounds good singing it, so I'm guessing you unlock more songs as you progress, or you might be able to buy songs at the bookstore (I haven't investigated that yet, so don't take my word for it).

Edit:  No songs at the bookstore, so they much be are strictly career related.

Edit #2:  The above is confirmed.

I'm really surprised to find that the karaoke machine doesn't give you any skill increase.

How do you start the career?  So far I haven't seen a job or profession option.

Singing, Acrobatics and Magic are all under Professions but it seems they aren't always there.   I don't know why.  I did it by a computer and the newspaper.   I didn't know you could go to a proprietor.

This EP didn't give us any skills only hidden ones with the new games.

My Sim read the paper for two mornings in a row. The first morning magician was there, the second morning magician and acrobat was there. Didn't get any farther before I went to bed.  I guess I spent too much time looking around.

That's odd because my Sim checked the paper for professions the first day and saw all three new careers. I wish that performing with a guitar would raise the guitar skill, but unfortunately it doesn't... Does anyone know if guitar helps the tip amount/performance in gigs or simply raises the experience bar faster?

For anyone who has progressed higher than level 6 in the singing career:  how long do I have to keep doing sing-a-grams?

It's not that i really mind them...it's just that you get them all day, every day, with no break.  I've got no time to do anything else.  I can't really work on friendships, can't go to the consignment shop, can't go to the salon...I can't do anything that you have to do during the daytime because I'm constantly hounded to sing to celebrate someone's workout, flirt for them, or some other such nonsense.   :-\

I have a Sim at level 4 and she didn't get one all day. She had her first gig performing in the park (from 6 to 9pm) and got good reviews.

You don't get them on the days you have gigs, that much I noticed.

I have been ignoring some of the sing a grams, so I could try out at the numerous places you can sing.  My sim has a gig at the park on a certain day, so she will go that, unfortunately, her voice went away, so I can't hear her sing, bummer.  Not sure if anyone else has this problem.

I think you might be experiencing the no sound bug. It's a brand new addition to the list and has arrived with Showtime. Have you tried having a look at this thread? It might be helpful to you.

My singer's voice comes and goes.

Edit:  The issue seems to be related to outdated sound card drivers.  I updated mine, and I'm going right now to check to see if that has any effect on the problem.
