[Edited for spelling. Remember that "their" is the possessive form of "they", while "there" is an adverb, noun or pronoun depending on the sentence which is meant to be referring to a position or state of things. - Swede]

I greatly appreciate these sorts of clarifications. Thanks Swede, I will make a note of it.

[Edited for correct quoting (and some spelling). You're welcome Leto! That's why I'm a moderator; can't keep my fingers from others' posts. :) - Swede]

Haha! I do not want to offend you, Swede. But I wonder how you would do if this whole forum was in Dutch!

C'mon Illuminator! I speak Swedish as my native language, I've never lived outside Sweden (so no freebie there), I never speak English at home and I've had to learn all my English on my own (public school teaches you horribly slowly sometimes). So how would the forum look like in Swedish? ::) (No offense taken Illuminator, just joking with ya')

Jokes taken aside, don't drift off topic here.

Yes, let's get back on topic.  And please refrain from using a language other than English on the Forum.  It's the one we all have in common and I don't want to have things posted that others can't understand.  It might become a new rule as we grow and move forward.

Funny. I was thinking of building some apartments myself, but not to compare them with community buildings. Because that would indeed not work at all. Too bad.

The only thing you could do (which could be a bit of boring, but with your building creative skills it could turn out to be something) is making on one lot a few houses (under one roof) and putting two or more families there. Although there is just one front door where visitors will ring the bell, you could just lock some of the doors from other sims in the household, so every family has its own living room, bedroom, bathroom etc. That way, it will almost look like an apartment, although it isn't in reality.

I deleted the town pool and put one of these puppies in.

I guess if you put the apartment building in under community, then you would just have a bunch of sims hanging around the apartment, eating, sleeping, reading etc.  If you put it residential, then sim families would move in there and probably use all of the apartment as one house.  I am not sure I want to do that yet, lol.  It sounds pretty neat, maybe they will come up with apartments one day, who knows.

Here's the issue I see with apartments in Sims.  Sure, you can make a building that looks like an apartment, heck, there's even buildings like that pre-made that come with the game like the Lin house in Riverview.  The problem is that the Sims don't treat it like it's an apartment.  They don't stick to the part that's supposed to be theirs, they act just like it's one big house.  And then you end up with some really strange pathing issues as a result of the design.

So, can someone explain to me why you'd want to do this?  Because I don't get it.  lol

Well, although I can't speak for us all, I like to try things in game that the game originally isn't build for, by not using mods. Those are funny little experiments to see where the limits ingame are and how to get around them,
Beside that, I still am missing some stuff from The Sims 2 and 1. It would be nice to get or find them back, if some are hidden somewhere.

I like to improve my simming experience, making things more realistic. Seeing that in life people live in apartments, that's why I use them.
I moved the only living Alto left into the apartment so she bought the apartment complex. Changed the household name to Row Apartments. Then merged Sims into her family(they still retain their last names). Lock doors as needed.

Whaha, this way we could also build elderly care homes and prisons. Yeah, let's add Prison Break into the game.

Wow I came across this thread seeing if anyone had heard about what to expect from EA with the newest expansion due out and was so excited to see some good ideas, and even a link to a creation by one of my old Sims2 buddies.  Back in those days (when we didn't have Apartment Life, walked up hill to school both ways in the snow, and we didn't have an awesome site like this... And we were thankful!) Some of us had toyed with the idea of an apartment in the forums.  The functionality there seems like it would be much the same as here, so the idea is very much alive.  http://thesims2.ea.com/exchange/lot_detail.php?asset_id=689887&asset_type=lot&user_id=4727575 was what I came up with back then.
Basically, build a rowhouse type lot and "lock" the door for each tenant.  The drawbacks: Having family over was problematic unless the doors were unlocked temporarily.  A shared lot meant shared funds, so everyone paid the bills, one person got the newspaper, and if you moved out a Sim, no good trying to pack up the furniture.  That's why it's a retirement community.  The idea being that they're there until they pass on, then the "apartment" is cleared out and redecorated for the next elder Sim.

Sorry for posting on a rather old thread, but has anyone else come up with fun apartment-like solutions until EA gives us our apartment fix?
Insert witty comment here

Does anybody know how the base camp in WA works - the ones in China and France? Is it just a community lot and there is a code for foreign visitors to go sleep there? And if that is the case then I wonder if you could replicate that in SV/Riverview/Twinbrook, etc? So build the appartments, make it a base camp, and watch all the foreigners flock there to sleep.
