Apartments
« on: April 17, 2010, 12:19:39 AM »
I've started to create apartments on that 64x32 strip of community lot in Sunset Valley, where the Foodmarket, movie theatre, and bookstore are located. Everything looks great so far but I completely forgot that no Sim can move in to the apartments because its a community lot. The point of the lot was to mix community buildings with apartments that Sims could live in.

My question is, is there anyway to allow Sims to move in w/o deleting the community buildings. Or is there a way to slice this 64x32 piece of land into individual lots?

Thanks ;)
Brandon

Hi Brandon.

Try going into Edit Town and clicking on the lot in question.  You should get an option to change it to a residential lot.  If so, Sims will be able to live there.

Ah, yes I tried this first, but when I changed it to Residential, the community lot buildings disappeared.

Are you using just the regular Sims 3 game for this?  Or are you trying that new Create A World thing?  I don't have any experience with it to say for sure that it would do what you want, but there are other members who probably know more about it.

Nope, I'm simply in Sims 3, in Edit Town Mode.

I am sorry bc, but you can not divide that piece of property.  It has to be a community lot with the businesses or it has to be a residential lot that you can build your apartments on for your sims to live in.

Sweet. I love it. It's kind of too bad EA didn't have one or two streets with a few apartments just to throw in some variety.

Thanks! Here's the lot if you want to dabble with it yourself:

[Edit: I can't allow the links because a mod is required to build on them.  Sorry.  -Pam]

[Edit: Looks like I spoke too fast about the park link, so I'm putting it back in the post. http://www.thesims3.com/assetDetail.html?assetId=2286362 -Pam]

Ok, but a mod is required for them to function as residential and community.  It's still a mod issue and not allowed on this forum.  Please drop this.

Funny. I was thinking of building some apartments myself, but not to compare them with community buildings. Because that would indeed not work at all. Too bad.

The only thing you could do (which could be a bit of boring, but with your building creative skills it could turn out to be something) is making on one lot a few houses (under one roof) and putting two or more families there. Although there is just one front door where visitors will ring the bell, you could just lock some of the doors from other sims in the household, so every family has its own living room, bedroom, bathroom etc. That way, it will almost look like an apartment, although it isn't in reality.

[Edited for spelling. Remember that "their" is the possessive form of "they", while "there" is an adverb, noun or pronoun depending on the sentence which is meant to be referring to a position or state of things. - Swede]

You can still make it community and have your family "live" in it by never going home;just make sure you don't build anything on the home lot. :D

Personally, besides using mods isn't allowed to use on this forum, I don't recommend using them at all. Most of them do have bugs in it or will not be compatible with newer game updates. Besides that, for future problems with the game, when you call some of the EA help desks and describe your problem they will mostly tell that the cause will (partly) be caused by the mod you've used, when they know you've installed one.
