Get to Know Social
« on: April 16, 2010, 02:54:45 PM »
Okay, something weird has developed in my Political "Traiter" game—my politician is getting to know the NPCs in his vacation city, and for some reason the "Get to Know" social vanishes sometimes. I say sometimes because it never seemed to vanish with a couple NPCs before I learned all 5 traits, but with a couple others I've learned 4 traits and that social is not an option anymore. Why would this happen? I can see why the Get to Know social would not be available if you know all traits, but if you still have more to know, then what gives? Chatting never seems to work either.

I would have to wonder if they have 5 traits at all. Could you go to edit those NPCs and see what traits they have? I've actually had odd experiences with that one, like using it (queued up) after learning all 5 traits made the Sim mad at mine and they suffered a relationship hit.

Edit: I added all the shopkeepers in town to my active family and they all had 5 traits. I have no idea what could be the cause of this.

You don't need to edit them.  If your sim already knows the other sim,  you can tell from your sim's relationship panel how many traits, known and unknown, the other one has.  Personally, I have never found the "get to know" interaction to be helpful in learning traits - does it do this for other people?  In my games, "get to know" just leads to them talking about their favourite colours, etc - not particularly helpful.

I already know that. There are 5 slots available for all foreign NPC store cashiers. I know 4 of the traits for a couple of the NPCs. Nothing I do—no social can get me the last trait. Get to Know would most certainly do it, but it's not available.

I need to know how to address this in the challenge—do I treat it as a bug and take my bonus points? I'm obviously concerned this is going to impact others in the challenge as well. Getting the NPCs to Best Friend status was not a problem. But, I simply am running out of options to learn that 5th trait. I was PMing with Carl and at least his opinion is that social should not vanish until all traits are learned.

Metro, in all the different sims that I have played since getting the game, I have Never had the "get to know" social stay around until I know all available traits.  I can get best friend status easy, but getting all the traits known with the "get to know" social has just not been an option for me.

Problem solved ,everyone. NancyJ gave me a hint in the Political Traiter thread that the Get to Know social disappears after friendship status is achieved. I had kind of suspected this, but honestly just didn't know for sure. Now I do.

It would be kinda logical in a sense, but wouldn't that mean that if you're mean to the sim before you become friends and then continue with 'get to know', you can learn to know that sim better than if that sim would've been your friend?
Somehow I think this is actually similar to real life! I have some personal "enemies" I've known for far longer than most of my friends. ::)

I don't find that "get to know" gives me any additional traits anyway.  I'm challenged to get the 4th and 5th traits, no matter if they're friends or whatever.

How I get all five traits, is right off the bat after you do the greet, do four or five "get to know" and usually by the fifth one, they have learned all five traits, sometimes have to hit it a couple of more times, but that has worked for me, because whoever wrote that the "get to know" goes away after they become friends, is correct.  So do as many "get to know" as possible before any other interaction and you should get all of them right at the beginning before you even become friends.

I have recently married off my firstborn Sim daughter. After a few weeks (Sims time) of marriage I had the couple chatting with one another and when I had the husband chat with his wife, the "Get to know" social came up and they started conversing as if they just met. I found that to be odd since they have been together since they were teens.

I am also finding it hard to learn all 5 traits of the Sims I meet. I usually can't get past 3 traits. I would think that if you get to the best friend stage then surely you should have discovered all 5 traits. I usually give up trying and do a Google search and try to find out the traits of the Sims that I want to know about before I let them become more than friends if my intent is for them to possibly marry. I have done this a couple of times after I have spent many Sims days trying to discover all 5 traits and it just doesn't happen. Maybe it's another bug in the game.

Like I said, not sure why mine works, not complaining, but, all I know is, I just hit "get to know" numerous times and get all five traits and then I concentrate on making friends with them, but your right catlover, I have had that come up when they had known each other for a while, not sure why, but then it goes away after a few interactions.

That's exactly the trick that I discovered in the Political Traiter challenge—if you cue up a bunch of Get to Knows from the get-go, even if you advance past Friend, those socials will still take place. Kind of the same thing as cueing up a bunch of "Make Waffles" and the time runs past breakfast time...the Sim will still do the action if it's in the cue.

All the Get to Know information is great, but when you reach the stage where they become Best Friends upon introduction, it's nearly impossible to learn any more traits.  At least, if there's a way, I haven't found it.
