Sims 3 lagging
« on: March 05, 2012, 12:31:52 AM »
OK, my laptop runs on Windows 7 64-bit and it meets the minimum requirements. Lately I am experiencing lagging issue with Sims 3. The timer stops for a few seconds and continues making the game unplayable. I have followed all the instructions on this thread, "What to do if Your Game Slows Down (Clean Up Your Game)" but the problem still persists.

Is there any other way to solve the issue?

When it lags have you tried "ResetSim *" to see if it fixes the issue?  Have you turned back some of your settings to see if that helps at all?   What town is it you're playing in?  Some are notorious for lag it seems.

Mine was really bad, and I moved towns and it was fixed for the most part. I think it's because my graphic card is bad. What is yours? Mine is the Intel G33/G31 chipset that came with my computer. It's not compatible since Pets and it makes horribly deformed animals and serious lagging. Also doing a factory reset and switching the saved file to the new folder also helps.

That's covered or so it says here. I don't know than, other then trying to change folders or change towns. I've done both and it helped tremendously with the lagging. Sorry I couldn't be more help.  :(

OK, what do you mean by changing folders? How do you do that?

Blanchflower, I wonder if you have been playing that town for a while.  Eventually everyone's game will bog down as the save file grows.  Some people, or rather their machines, seem to be able to tolerate it more than others.  I find that my game tends to start crashing once it reaches a critical point which is usually just as it is starting to lag.  That is enough for me to pack up my favourite sims and move to a new town and start afresh.

Have you tried a new town to see if you have lag in it?

I think changing folders might mean swapping out your old Sims 3 folder and letting the game generate a new one.  I am not sure if that is what Esther means but maybe she pop back to explain.  ;D  Sometimes your Sims 3 user files can get a bit corrupted and taking it out is a good way of cleaning out your game rather than doing the whole uninstall/reinstall.  I would leave that though until you have checked to see if the new town lags as well as it may just be the game and nothing wrong in your user files.

OK, my laptop runs on Windows 7 64-bit and it meets the minimum requirements.

EA is always a tad little bit optimistic with their minimum specs for the game. And also, they only publish those for the base game + 1 EP, which is always less intensive for a computer than base game + a collection of EP, SP and store content.

So, "just" meeting the minimum specs will let you "just" run the game, but with all kinds of problems like lagging. You need to exceed those specs, and the more EP/SP you have, the more you need to exceed them.

If you post your complete specs (CPU, RAM, graphic card, EP/SP, mods or not?, how are you patched?), that could help to see if this is indeed enough.

Figwit is right. Do a factory re-install then move the saved file from the old laggy folder to the new one.
