Neighborhood Has Reset and I'm Stuck in China
« on: March 04, 2012, 07:07:09 PM »
I have all of the sims 3 expansions except the town life stuff.

Hopefully this is salvageable but I installed Sims 3: Pets while my character was saved in china. Now when I load my character it is fine while I am in China.

However when i go back home the neighborhood shows the cut scene as if i've never been there. Then I have the option to move in a household. My character is only in the list as his default self and my custom house is not there.

I ran across someone suggesting goto edit town in China then goto Home from the edit screen, Doing that I can see my house until it asks me where i want to place the new "PET LOTS".

My backup is also while in china. Big thanks to anyone taking the time to read this, i've had this guy since day one of Sims 3.

Did you backup your game before installing Pets? Is it possible for you to uninstall pets, reload the backup, play your sim home and *then* install Pets?

That's all I've got. :( Hopefully someone else can help better.

Thank you for replying.

Technically I'm backed up since my last save is pre-pets. I haven't saved since; however, The Sims had to update before installing Pets.

Rolling back is something I will try if I'm unable to try other solutions.

I just did a complete re-install last night.  I remember when I uninstalled World Adventures, I got a message that something about what would happen if I had a game where my Sim is in a foreign country.  I don't recall what it said, but I'm thinking that maybe that's the problem with your game.  Maybe if you're in a foreign country when you uninstall WA, it will revert to the beginning of a new game.  What you need is a save that's pre-travel.

Pam's right, I had the question when I did a reinstall with WA. "Are you sure you want to delete WA? Be sure you have no visitors in foreign countries" Or something to that effect.

Unfortunately I don't have a suggestion for your problem.
But would like to suggest to make a save just before you leave and then use different save files when traveling. That way if something like this happens again you can always get back to the save you just before you left.

Yes, this! I always save my game right before they book the vacation and then, from that point forward, I save the game under a new name until they return. That's a great tip.

I think you're going to have to try uninstalling Pets and re-installing but if, like you implied, it has to do with the patch...I think you downgrade to previous patches, but I don't know how to do it. Try Googling it?

thank you all for your suggestions.

the only reason i keep any hope is because i can still see my house when i goto edit town from china to home.

heinsight definitely tells me to save before i go to a foreign country, but i hadn't played the game in quite some time and didn't even think about where my guy was when i installed pets.

maybe i'll try to uninstall pets and see what happens.

Have you placed the lots in your home world and then not been able to do anything? I understand that it asks you to place them but have you placed them and then what happened?

i've tried cancelling and i've placed them and either way it just sits on the neighborhood as if i've never been there.

i also tried uninstalling pets with the same results.

my character lives in bridgeport, did bridgeport get updated w/ the patch leading into sims 3:pets.

Yes Bridgeport updated with the patch. I had forgotten to uninstall my mods when patching and my sims couldn't leave China. Did a complete reinstall, then patch and them updated mods.

I am really sorry this happened to you. :( I wish we could have helped. Do you have any older saves?

Have you been able to save your Sim as a household?  He would keep all of his clothes/skills/career but you would be able to move him into a new neighborhood.
