First of all, thank you for this guide, Moons. It has come in very handy.

I have a question about installing the patches. To get ready for Showtime (and because I'm also getting Fast Lane), I plan on doing a complete reinstallation of all of my Sims 3 games. Should I install each patch after I install the game it is associated with, or wait until I finish installing all the games? Or would that make any difference?

Thanks in advance to anyone who takes the time to answer this.

Angelcat, I'm pretty confident that you'd be okay to completely install everything before you start patching these ones manually. I don't think it would make a difference, but if you really want to patch as you go, you should be able to do that without an issue as well.

I updated everything after I had finished reinstalling all the EP's (actually 2 weeks later  ::)) and I didn't have any trouble.

I just did a complete reinstall today and if you run the launcher after each install it will patch you to the patch levels listed in Moons first post.
The patches go quick. There all under 7MB except for the base game patch. It was 942.1MB. :)

Oh! I didn't know this! I never bother to open the launcher until after I'm done installing all EPs an SPs. Thanks for the info!

No problem. I'm just the opposite, I open the launcher after each install and patch as I go. :)

Thanks grimsoul. I didn't know that either. I've never had to do a reinstall before. It seems I learn something new every time I come to this forum.

Also, would you still need to get the very large 942MB base game patch if you were going to get patch 1.31 anyway? I thought that one updated the base game as well. I ask this because my sub-par internet connection would make downloading a patch that size take a very long time. I'm not complaining or anything, just curious.

The 942 meg patch for the base game is the patch that brings a new installed game to patch level 1.31

When I downloaded that 1.31 patch the first time, with all my current packs already installed, it was only 190 MB.
I was planning to get that one after I installed the other game patches Moons recommended, but now I don't know.
Suggestions?

Again, I appreciate everyone putting up with my ignorance.

When you downloaded it the first time that was probably to take you from patch 1.29 to patch 1.31.
The 942 meg patch takes you from a newly installed game that has never been patched to patch 1.31. That's why it's so much bigger. It's combines all the base game patches in one big download.

my world adventures isn't up to date, does that mean I should patch it?

If you are patched up to 1.33 then your World Adventures would be patched.  You do not need to patch individual EPs.  If World Adventures is the last game you have installed, and if your Launcher is prompting you to patch, then I believe you should allow it to patch.  It is probably not necessary if you don't use mods or store content but bugs do get fixed with patches (things get broken too  ;)) but, overall, I think it is a good thing to keep your game as up to date as possible.

That's not necessarily true. I did my patches before 1.33, but the launcher only does base game patches now unless one of the Pre-Gen games is the newest game you have.

Warr, I suggest you download the patch from SimPrograms and install it.

Moons
Many thanks for this but understand that the latest patch is now 1.36 or 1.364?
Now I have a major problem largely due to Origin and the fact we are now based in Africa. My original games were purchased in the US. My computer was made especially for me in the US We have been here in Botswana (Southern Africa) for nearly 3 years now
I recently purchased the Showtime Special Collectors Edition (Katy Perry) the launcher has borked my game but changing my base game WA and Highendloft stuff. This is now in my gamebin for WA  (description=Version: 0.RL-2.0.63  Changelist: 716948) I can not get back into the main Sims 3 forum the launcher keeps directing me to the English Site!! I have been a member of the main sims forum since the beginning..so frustrating
So I am very grateful for your link.
I have now uninstalled Origin and will have to manually install without the launcher.
I do not often post but do go through the latest news and technical discussions to make sure
everything is up to date. Have been a huge fan of Carls guide since forever and would just like to thank all of you and especially Pam for this site. It has been a ray of hope through all my frustrations. I keep getting Error 12 on saving my game and notice that the Game has generated
huge files for Egypt which attaches to my legacy family and they have only been there for 3 days?
Wish me luck~ Savuti :-[
