Really? Is that all this new achievement/badge system is about?

Seriously, EA, seriously?

It's just one of the many perks. You get to earn badges, you get to use Simport, you get to chat while you are playing and you get to spam any friends (and their friends)  you might have at the TS3 site.  If you choose to use the social features there are unlockable game items you'll get.  I'm not too concerned about that.

Hmmm. The new social thing sounds cool, but I don't have any friends at the official site LOL. I was never fond of that forum... too crowded for me I guess. I don't even have a profile. Well, I do have the one you get when you register, but it's been empty ever since The Sims 2! 

Maybe if I can found some people from this forum I will stop behaving like a hermit  .

I was just getting to the point of semi-using MyPage at TS3. I go over there when I need a little drama.    I have a few people who have sent me friend requests and my total is less than 15 people. You should just see the endless string of spam comments that run down my now-like-facebook page. I can just imagine what it looks like for people that have a lot of friends. Not only do you see friends comments, postings, studio listings, achievements and just yadda,yadda,yadda you also see what their friends have posted. It's a big mess.

I think my game is better since the patch. Not nearly as much lagging and no crashes! Whoo!

I turned off the social nonsense pretty easily, but when I purchased things in-game it automatically turned it all back on.  Just FYI so others can know to turn it off again if they so desire.

The only bad thing I've seen is that now when I load a game, it automatically starts playing, even if I left it paused.  I have to be vigilant and not walk away to do anything else.  Kind of annoying.

Is this me? Mind you, I don't update that regularly, but I do like to update a lot - I think I've updated about five times today alone, with news about how I'm finding the patch, etc, and one status with a link to my latest Dreamer chapter. I rather like it, I feel more welcome updating there than on my Facebook page with people I know in real life! (Should show you how social I am. ) Feel free to say if I'm annoying and I will stop, I promise! I'll likely tone it down over the next few days anyway.

I updated.  Saw my Sims were immediately playing and went,  "Huh?"  No prob, just paused and got things straightened out and my Sims doing what they were supposed to be doing.  Got a few notices/chat messages and after my first bit of annoyance because it was visual clutter, enjoyed being able to respond to friend requests, or chat with folks I know from here who are on Sims3 forum.  I prefer to only chat with folks from here because I "know" you guys, but since I don't know everyone's name there I wind up with folks I don't know.  Usually this is ok.  I always ask, "do I know you from Carl and Pam's Forum".  Never hurts to plug this place!  The chatting was nice, actually, and I think when you are just playing or maybe doing a dynasty it could be a lot of fun.  I am in the middle of a challenge so can't really share what my Sims are up to.

I did not think I would like the social feature but I do.  However, if my getting a badge or anything else is spamming people I will be very annoyed!  I hate being spammed myself so am pretty sure it will irritate others.  Thanks for the heads up on how to turn things off.

A good part of that social is you could be stuck for something, like can't find something you need, and could post a message and get an instant response.

The bad part is my game freezes and crashes very quickly.  There is more lag.  I can just imagine the nightmare it would be if I were playing in Union Cove!  Ok, I know I need a new video card but this crashing after about 15 minutes of play was a bit much. 

Since I'm really focused on my challenges right now I don't have time, (with a slow pc), to check out all the possible problems.  I am so glad I have you guys to rely on!  Thanks everybody for all the help you always share.

Joria & CSquared - After every patch update, there isn't a save game that doesn't automatically play for me.  I think it's been like that every patch since Ambitions for me.

I'm still scared to update because of some of the problems I've seen people talking about on the official forums. 

Kirby - if you're annoyed by her, you could unfriend her or play offline and you wont see constant posting.

Uuuugh, that's something I won't be enjoying. I always let the game loading while I go take a shower, have dinner or whatever. Hopefuly it will just be a post-updating thing and not permanent!

None of these new quirks should be surprising to anyone.  Things like this always happen.  EA will fix it...and if they don't someone else will. :p

It's new, so (some) people want to try it out.  It'll be bad for a week, maybe two, but once people see that this is all there is to it (and start losing friends for spamming every last event that occurs), this will all calm down.  You see this in every online game that has ever existed.  New toys have to be played with.  Immediately and constantly lol.

Is that all?  These are achievements, people.  Achievements!  How can you not want them??  Achievements are life!  Must.  Get.  Achievements. 

Okay, seriously:  you've obviously never played an MMORPG.   Achievements appeal to a lot of people...like me!
