I'm fine with sim's dying. (matter of fact, my sim was in the library when a random sim she was socializing died..First time I saw Grim reaper in the game.)

While it annoyed me a few times, I realize that its gonna happen. While, I don't like to kill them, I had sims die on me.

Yet, everyone plays differently. It's a game.

I guess we do, sometimes, get attached to them. I know I do.

I don't like playing the premade town people though..

Yet, I would never outright kill a sim.

Still, I don't mind other people killing them. It is a game. I see it no different as to opeing a role play thread (another site) and have at it with the characters.

WHOA!! You guys are that scared? Let's shift to a new perspective:

What if it was a sim you didn't like? Hate with a deep passion? I mean, I HAD to kill a sim I love (by love, I'm considering putting his pic as my avatar and a caption saying" _____'s #1 Fan". because I didn't want him to be an elder. Lame, I know.

But I have no problem torturing and killing ugly sims. Like the Bunch Family.

Sometimes I play Claire, she can be fun for me.  (I send her off to the gym every day or buy her a treadmill and she comes out alright.)   The one I would add to your list is Nancy Landgrabb. I've disliked her ever since I saw her lay her baby down in the park and go home.  Last time I fed her to a cow plant.

I've never liked Claire because of how rude she was to my sims. To me, Nancy looks like an elegant, middle aged botox injected Brittney Spears.  :-\

Hmm, you can add Sandi French when she's a YA! She looks creepy..

Oh my gosh, Working Friends?  Emma and Blair are my two favorite girls in SV!!  Just recently Blair has produced some gorgeous grandkids.  She's a teenager now, and utterly stunning.

I have only once ever intentionally killed a Sim and that was to try and get a Ghost baby. The sim was made specifically for that purpose. I would never do it for no reason at all, that was purely experimental.

I guess people have their own play style, but personally, I have only forced Grim once since I have had sims3.  In sims2, I did it more, for one reason or another.  I would imagine that people have done that for their stories.  I don't think I would just go on a killing spree just for the heck of it.  I would suppose the old saying goes, to each their own. :)

Sorry for the late visit here. I'm trying to understand what all of you guys' points are as I'm not good at understanding English. I think it's ok to kill any sim for the creation of story but one time, someone downloaded teddy bear item from MTS and killed the sims all over the town and it(he or she) said, "It's so funny isn't it? This item is gorgeous! I strongly recommend this to release your stress!" And I was really upset to see it. He or she was just killing the all sims as an Emperor of Evil with no reason. That's why I wanted to know how many simmers enjoy like this play style in the world. :(

I'll be honest and say that I do not find this as shocking as you seem to.  There are far too many horrible things really going on in the world for me to be concerned about what someone is doing in a video game.  Besides, there are video games where killing people is not really detrimental to game play, and is even encouraged after a fashion (the GTA franchise, the Elder Scrolls franchise).  This is not to even mention the games where the entire purpose of the game is to kill people (every warfare game you can think of).

I think a lot of the appeal of this comes from the fact that murder does not exist in the Sims' world:  Sims cannot consciously kill other Sims.  The only way to do this is to create a situation where death is likely to occur:  you have to create tragic accidents.  This is not as easy as it sounds, and often requires a bit of skill on behalf of the player.

I am not a Sim-killer and do not go out of my way to treat my Sims bad, although I do both when it suits my purposes.  The most recent example is a game I started to experiment with the practical functionality of certain traits and the ability of a teenager to survive using exclusively these traits.  The parameters were simple:  buy/build modes were strictly off limits, the gym was off limits, no part time jobs and she started out with $0 in the way of funds.  Since you cannot create and move a teenager into a lot, this required me to to not only create the teenager, but an adult guardian...which I killed the moment the family was placed.  I then used the "familyfunds" cheat to set the household funds at 0.

I tried this with an empty lot, and intended for the teen to sleep in parks, but it became immediately apparent that she got picked up after curfew and escorted "home" every time she was out.  This required me to rethink my plan, so I created the lot shown below to avoid this to some extent:

No bathroom, no kitchen, no bed, and no entertainment (the bills were $2 lol).  Just a bench to nap on so she wasn't constantly hounded by the police.  She had to fulfill all her needs using her carefully selected traits:  Neurotic, Inappropriate, Mooch and Friendly.  These traits allowed her to instantly remove stress, bathe in the sinks of public bathrooms, beg for food and money and made it easier for her to talk to people while doing it.  I also gave her the leeway to sleep and shower at a friend's house if she was invited over and managed to convince them to let her spend the night.

Was this cruel?  Maybe a little.  But she still survived quite well:  she became an adult with about 7,000 LTH points, she graduated on the honor role, had lots of friends and even a boyfriend.  She went hungry on occasion, but was never close to starving...and had even built up close to $200, despite the fact that she ate off the food truck several times a week.  She eventually grew up, got a job in the music industry (rock star branch), moved into an apartment and had 2 kids.  All's well that ends well.  ;)

Regardless, I won't fault someone for playing the game the way they want.  I would much rather see someone killing off pixelated people to relieve their stress than to go on a shooting spree in a grocery store where living, breathing people might be harmed.

I personally think it depends how important active household you have. In my case, my sim household is nearly my imaginary family. So I can't let them die except for any accidents or being old. It's ok to kill some sims occasionally for making story or challenging skill journals. My household is the part of my love.  The sims3 is the first proper graphic game I've ever had. I never tried any WOW or other killing games and maybe that's why I don't understand the negative type of playing.

Summers, I feel sorry that you were distressed by this, but I think I'll have to agree with Hosfac on this one. As sophisticated as life simulations are, and as emotionally attached as I might get to my Simmies, the ultimate fact is that they still aren't human. They don't have the emotional depth of real humans, they aren't forever traumatised by tragedies, and death doesn't even have to be permanent for them. Killing them off for catharsis doesn't seem any more wrong to me than, say, blasting the heads off some zombies. It's not everyone's cup of tea for sure, but at the end of the day it's only a game.  :)

Also: To be honest, killing off your Sims was part of the game’s culture from the start. There’s something darkly amusing about watching a Sim autonomously taunt a carnivorous plant, run screaming into a house fire, or dive into a pool that clearly has no way out.

I feel like my household is not a game.:D Feels like they are my real family. LOL;;

Summers, you mention that you are surprised that teens are allowed to play TS3 that way.  I suspect their parents are not aware of how the kids are playing and even if they were they wouldn't prevent it.

Our culture is filled with horror and death.  For instance, The Hunger Games is tremendously popular among young people and from what I understand the premise is that teenagers are forced to fight to the death so that their families will be given food and riches.  Is it really any surprise then that some people would choose to experiment with killing off their sims?  It is, after all, just a game and there is no real harm done.  Better that these kids get their kicks from killing pixels rather than by causing real world havoc.

That being said, I personally don't intentionally harm my sims because to me this is a life simulation game, not a death simulation game.  When I want to get my aggression out I go kill monsters in World of Warcraft.

Yes to me, it's totally life simulation, not the death one. I asked the other simmer to release their stress with other killing game. :)

I agree with Katluvr on all of her points.  I will say though I have intentionally killed Sims before.  When I found out my husband wanted a divorce and he had been cheating on me, I made Sims of both him and the other woman and killed them every way I could think of.  I've also had a file where I was playing an evil family of Sims and I fully expect evil Sims to act evil.  Read Carl's guide on the Emperor of Evil and you'll see what I mean.

Yes I know about the Emperor of Evil career. My sim challenged this career before too. But I let him quit the job when I realized what the red beams coming out of his body. Because I didn't get that career title for being a real Emperor of Evil. I just wanted to know how it works and let him challenge all careers in the Sims3. :)
