Messed Up Pets Glitch
« on: February 28, 2012, 10:26:28 PM »
I was wondering if anyone knew what to do about the messed up pets glitch in Sims 3 Pets. I heard that a patch was released but I don't know how to get the patch. When a stray pet comes to get some attention, I don't give it any because it looks freaky.

What exactly do you mean by the cat looks freaky? Does it look like this?

Unfourtnatly, it's your graphics card chipset causing the problem. Pets require a different type of rendering so naturally, at this point in Sims 3, onboard graphics will throw in the towel.

I would invest in a graphics card. Chipsets are fine for internet use (Facebook, Twitter, YouTube, this forum), and homework/school work, since they have system RAM. However, they have no dedicated memory, or video RAM. I had the same problem. I played okay, until Pets. My pets got distorted and I got a new graphics card. It was well worth it and my game no longer crashes, to where my computer shuts itself down.

I heard a rumor about a patch when Pets first came out, but I'm more inclined to go with the graphics card issue, too.  Waiting for a patch could be a waste of time.

Welcome to the forums MsKCupcake!

Unfortunately, Jeana and Pam are right. I have a chipset, which played my game perfectly, until I installed pets. Now, my animals look like this.

That is supposed to be a unicorn, but as you can see looks nothing like one. I still haven't gotten a new graphics card, but my plan is to get it in March, and I'm hoping it solves this problem. They did release a patch, 1.29 which I installed but that unicorn picture was taken after the patch and as you see, it didn't help at all.

Yeah, I had the same issue with my chipset before, but mainly when entering Create A Pet and afterwards, when going back to the game with the pet. I changed to a new gaming laptop with an Nvidia Geforce card and pets don't look creepy anymore.

But my game still crashes LOL  :-\.

Just so you know, and I'm sorry Pam if this is too off topic, but I feel this is very important for me to stress. You are taking a huge risk right now, playing your game on a graphics chip, causing your distorted pets. Sims 3 is a very graphic intensive game, and your graphics chip is too weak to render creatures with heavy details like this. If you keep playing, you will destroy your GPU, also damaging the motherboard, where the graphics chip is attached, and thereby totaling your computer.

Pam is right. You will be disappointed when your pets don't improve after a new patch. A new graphics card is a huge improvement and well worth the wait.

I'd recommend that the original poster uninstalls pets until getting a new graphics card, for fear of what Jeana mentioned happening. I've uninstalled Pets until I get my new computer, fit to run Pets perfectly.

Frey, I would suggest putting your laptop on a cool flat surface. Don't play with the computer on your lap, as it will overheat. That almost sounds like the computer is overheating, and shutting itself down to protect itself.

This is the real risks you guys are taking when playing Sims 3.

Actually I think I may have fixed it a few hours ago. My expansion packs were not updated, even though the launcher said they were, so I just updated them manually. Fingers crossed! I play on the dinner table and the laptop doesn't overheat at all... but the old one did, and my crashing issues on that computer were surely because of that. Not even the DEP settings would keep it from shutting itself down, LOL. Poor thing. But thanks for the advice  ;) I do have a cooler, maybe I will start using it again, just in case.

Anyways, back on topic, as someone who did torture her poor old chipset with The Sims and almost fried the laptop for it... yes, I would definitely advice to get a new graphics card, or at least uninstall Pets, since my laptop got a lot worse after installing that particular EP.

Thanks for all the help. I can't play Sims 3 until I can get a new graphics card, just so that I don't do anymore damage than I probably have already.

Thank you again! I got a 1GB graphics card, it runs The Sims beautifully. I just bred some kittens, that actually look cute.

Congratulations on your new graphics card. Did you notice a huge difference when playing Sims 3, aside from the distorted pets?  ;D
