The Vizard of Vine Challenge
« on: February 28, 2012, 07:18:18 PM »
I'm having trouble with this one.

The first bottle of nectar I made was all watermelon. Just to test that any fruit could be made into nectar. After that I read the guide.

Then I made one batch of 9 Life fruit and 1 Pomegranate and one batch of 6 Life Fruit, 3 Flame Fruit and  1 Cherimola Blan Grapes

After that I just started making various combinations of grape nectars for the Mix Master Challenge sticking to just the varieties of grapes for the sake of Vizard of Vine.

Then I made lots of (1 Gralladina Fran, 1 Cranaerlet Nuala, 2 Cherimola Blan, 2 Avornalino, 2 Meloire and 2 Renoit grapes) which is a great quality recipe I stumbled on while getting mix master.

So I went for Master of Nectar Making and Flavorful Feet with that recipe still sticking to just grape varieties.

Now the way The Vizard of Vine is worded is "Turn 400 bunches of homegrown grapes into Nectar and all grapevine varieties grown by you will yield more grapes."

Flavorful Feet asks us to squish 40 Batches of fruit.

Since it takes 10 fruit to make a batch I assumed that because of the three first batches I made being light on grapes I should have gotten Vizard of Vine 3 batches after I got Flavorful Feet assuming that a "bunch" of grapes is one of the 10 units needed to make up a batch to make nectar with.

All fruit used was planted and harvested by the same sim making the nectar and on the same lot in the same saved game so I would assume that would satisfy the "homegrown" requirement.

After having gone far beyond that forty squished batches and still not getting credit for Vizard of Vine I began to think that maybe homegrown meant just the standard regular grapes that come with the stock game (which I hadn't used any of yet.) and not the foreign grapes that come with the EP. So I then started using up all of the  400+ grapes my sim had in her inventory and still don't have The Vizard of Vine completed.

Here's what my Skill journal for Nectar Making looks like...

Statistics

Number of bottles made: 764
Number of glasses had: 2
Total made selling nectar: $58,885
Highest amount single bottle sold for: $376
Number of fruits used to make nectar: 1,380
Number of sims served: 1
Number of times squished fruit: 138
Number of Different Combinations: 16

Master of Nectar Making Complete
Flavorful Feet Complete
The Vizard of Vine Incomplete
Mix Master Complete

Now there's nothing there that keeps track of Number of Bunches of Homegrown Grapes used to make nectar but it looks like I should have that complete.

Unless bunches means batches and I really need to use 4,000 of what I would consider bunches to make 400 batches.

Could that be the case? Or Am I suffering from some kind of glitch or bug?

Vizard of the Vine incompletion is a known bug.    I don't know if there is a way to fix it but if you have traveled at any point during your nectar making, it may have been reset back to 0.  There is actually a theory that they are talking about 400 of just the France grapes and that has worked for some people.  However, they did do this without traveling so maybe try that with another set of 400.

Now the way The Vizard of Vine is worded is "Turn 400 bunches of homegrown grapes into Nectar and all grapevine varieties grown by you will yield more grapes."

Flavorful Feet asks us to squish 40 Batches of fruit.

Note the difference in terminology.  Vizard of the Vine requires 400 bunches of grapes, while Flavorful Feet requires 40 batches of fruit.  This means that you have to completely fill the hopper 40 times, squish it and make nectar out of 39 of them (to empty the hopper for the next batch) in order to get this achievement.  In other words:  you must use 400 fruit items.  Thus, if you work on the Vizard of the Vine challenge, you'll automatically complete the Flavorful Feet prior to it.  Or at least, you should.

My suggestion is to acquire all the varieties of grapes from France, and create a vineyard (for now, at least).  Grow lots of grapes so you can keep a constant flow of grapes coming in.  Then, work on nectar making without traveling.

I did some searching for this, and I'm getting some mixed results.

So: Does anyone know if how the game defines 'homegrown' grapes for the Vizard of Vine challenge?

I'm doing my Dynasty, and I've got a Gardener and a Nectar Maker.  Can the Nectar Maker uses the grapes from the Gardener, or will he have to harvest them himself?

In the two-and-a-half Immortal Dynasty threads I've read so far, the Gardening Sim's produce counted as "homegrown" for the Nectar Maker's purposes just fine.

This is a question I've seen asked quite a bit, but I've never seen it answered adequately (key word being "seen," it may have been...but I never saw it).

I may have to do some testing if nobody knows.

What I'm testing in my own Dynasty right now is what seems to be the consensus I found in my searching, that the Nectar-Making Sim just has to Harvest the grapes for it to count.

But I'm not doing any extensive testing, since I'm also keeping count, just in case I'm wrong.

During the Mad Max Skillz Marathon last year, NancyJ did some research about this.  Here is a link to the thread.

Okay, like I said:  I just hadn't seen it.  But, yes...this does answer a lot of questions.

I wasn't saying anything against you Hosfac.  I just realized that I had actually seen the research and wanted to share.

No worries.  I was assuming that this had been done at some point, but I couldn't say for sure since I, myself, had never seen it.  Plus, I wouldn't have been very helpful if I said something like "Yeah, I'm sure it's around here somewhere.  You just gotta look for it."  :P

I'm glad you saved me the trouble of picking all those grape, though.
