I have a habit to go for items worth a lot sometimes also. Here is what i have:

493,994 bottle of nectar (Transfigured, aged for 30-40 weeks)

122,449,648 compendium ingot. (Used my whole metal collection off of several 15 day vacations using collection helper)

Funny, when I sold the ingot my cash went up to 99,999,999. EA scammed me 22.5 million bucks!

Really?  You had a single Compendium ingot worth $122,449,648?

I've never had a compendium worth that much, but since Carl says that the compendium is worth approx. 125% the value of all metals used taken together, I can definitely see how you can get this far if you re-transfigure the compendium with other metals over and over again.
Ha, ha, I just came to think about something: You have this .12 billion compendium and then what happens if a burglar comes along? ::)

Yes, I did have a 120 million simoleon compendium. It just kept increasing by 25%, and at first it was slow, but once i got past 1,000,000 or so it got fast. For example, it went from 80 to 105 million or something like that in one go.

A space rock worth over $16,000, very nice. BTW you can have a compendium up to around 2.1 Billion. Any more than 2.2 Billion resets it to zero. =/ I had a 2.1 Billion but it messed up my game for some reason, so I took it to the park and set it on the fountain and left it there, lol.

Regarding space rocks...

I noticed in Riverview there's usually a large one in a couple of the locations highlighted by the Collection Helper.  Just use the zoom feature to hop around the map between them to find out.

Also, I've never kept accurate records but I'm sure space rocks follow the same formula as gems and metals, i.e. they are worth X simoleons per gram, dependent on what variety of rock you have.  Thus, a large Carbonaceous Chondrite would be worth much more than a Llamatite of higher mass.  I found this info at the Sims Wiki website, but have not independently verified it.

BTW - what is the BB code to embed a url into regular text?
EDIT: Thanks, Swede, for the answer.

So with "mesosiderite" (1000% value) you could get much higher than Esther's gotten?

BTW - what is the BB code to embed a url into regular text?
Type: [u(r)l=(insert your website)]write your 'regular text' [/url]
PS. Take away the brackets for the first r. I put it there so this thing wouldn't disappear now when I posted.

Ah, sorry for that then! :-[
Had forgotten about the first post... ::)

In a related matter, how often does a sim seem to get mesosiderite? (Anyone with large experience of space rocks out there?)
Is it like one player among twenty who gets it one time if he/she's really lucky, or is it an income you could *practically* count on?

Once the Sim has found 100% of the rocks, it's not that hard. I guess you could count it for income if you had a spawner or found a lot all the time!

It's been my experience that the more distinct varieties of space rocks a sim has found, the more likely the remaining types are to be found.  Also, once you have achieved Awesomest Rock Collector In the Universe (collected every variety of space rock), you are significantly more likely to find mesosiderite, carbonaceous chondrite, or other >200% value rocks.

To answer the second question, if all you did was collect space rocks, I'm pretty sure you wouldn't really need another source of income.  It doesn't begin to compare with playing for tips or using the Carter XL case to get exponentially increasing returns on a bar of compendium, but you surely wouldn't be seeing the repo man as a result of being unable to pay your bills!
