Free gifts that your BFs will love
« on: February 26, 2012, 01:37:04 AM »
So your sim wants to give a gift, but you don't want to fork out the big bucks? Or even the small ones? What are some of the gifts you've given other sims and they've loved them anyway? I gave an old newspaper today, and perhaps because the sim was already my BF she figured it was the thought that counted, and loved it!

I don't think it really matters what you give.  It's more about how high the relationship level is.  An acquaintance is more likely to refuse a gift, while a good friend will love it.  Personally, I like to give cut gems just because I think it would be awesome to give someone a pear shaped ruby.  But sometimes all I have is an apple and it works just as well.

Sometimes it does matter what the gift is. If you give someone you just met something that corresponds to their trait, they sometimes accept it.

Yeah and other times they say "I don't know you well enough to accept this".

I like to re-gift!  I always end up having 5-10 bunches of flowers in my inventory.  Sure, you can put one in the middle of your kitchen table, but what do you do with the rest?  I end up re-gifting them.  Hopefully I'm not breaking some poor sim's heart.

Yeah, but handing out old newspapers brings the concept of "re-gifting" to an entirely new level :P

I think the most random gift I've my Sim has given was a Skill Book. My Sims have also given other Sims fish.

Yeah, but handing out old newspapers brings the concept of "re-gifting" to an entirely new level :P

The first thing I do when I start a new house is cancel the newspaper.  I never end up using it.  Maybe I should call and get it back! :D

I realized earlier that the reason I'm getting such a ridiculous amount of flowers is because the sim I've been playing has the attractive lifetime reward.  Ooops.

Chuckles, have you tried gifting the interesting things dogs and cats find while hunting?  Like the Maple leaves and snake skin?  I feel so bad throwing them out!  I never really thought about gifting them.  I guess if it fits in your inventory, you can gift it, eh?  If that's the case, I'm going to start gifting freezer bunny gnomes.  I have a pack of them.  My noisy dog barks at the fridge every chance she gets.

Also, a gift of fish sounds like an awesome present.  Would it be rude to make fish and chips out of it?  Skill book says, "Here, go study."  I think I'll pass :-P

Yes, the empty chip packet is one of those 'interesting' things. I haven't deleted any of mine to date yet either. I'd feel bad about it. I can just imagine my dogs being excited and proud of finding something, and I don't want to take it away from them. I did, however, notice that they can be gifted. Piles of rubbish, however, cannot, so not everything can be gifted. Nor can career items, like portfolios. It can be advantageous to find out a sim's traits by giving them a gift that is related to it. Giving produce works for green thumbs, loves the outdoors, hates the outdoors, natural cooks...

Why does this sound like a scene from The Godfather?

*Unwraps a package containing a Deathfish*
"What is this?"
"It's a message.  It says 'Nick Alto sleeps with the fishes.'"

It was totally unintentional, I swear.  I've never seen The Godfather!

I tried having my cat give snake skin to my dog, but it fails every time.  I ended up with little feathers and snake skin all over the lot!

I think the most random gift I've my Sim has given was a Skill Book. My Sims have also given other Sims fish.

that didn't work with my sim. She was level 9 in charisma and asked a level 5 to move in. She wanted to give away her charisma book to him, and he was none too pleased. Their relationship dipped.
