Very old dog.
« on: February 21, 2012, 05:53:06 PM »
Hello :).
In my immortal dynasty I adopted a stray dog that came to my house. He was 65 days old when I got him and is now 72!
I play on normal lifespan as per the dynasty rules, so by my calculations dogs should, on average, live to be about 46 days old.
It's not that I don't like having him around, but I need some more space in the house.
Is this a bug with strays?
Has anyone else experienced this?

I'd really prefer not to give him up for adoption...

Thanks,
Nora

Dogs live till 45, so yours is nearly double the age he should be! Although I am sure I have heard of Sims living till over 113 Days and I'm sure that is not the highest I've heard. So it could just be you've hit random luck with this dog - or it could be a bug. Have you tried reseting him? If not maybe see if he doesn't die in the next week or two, it's probably not a game breaker, unless you want room for more pets in your Dynasty Household and don't want him filling that gap.

I'll try resetting him now.
I have 3 other dogs (1 is 43, so she's close to dying), 2 elder mortals (both over 90), 2 adults and a teen in the house :P.
I'm sure I'll have enough space soon :).

I wonder if there is a stray aging glitch kind of like with babysitters and paper deliverers?  I had one babysitter in my Fae dynasty who was still around 2 generations after she first appeared...   :o

Gaaaah. He's 74 now...
I really hope it's not a glitch :(.
My second generation was friends with a paperboy as a child. He was a child before her teen birthday party, a teen when he got there, and a YA the day after...
I found her another boyfriend :P.

In my game, the elder bar for pets is full at 52 days, not 45.  He's still living more than 20 days beyond what's expected.  Is he eating gourmet pet food?  That's supposed to make pets live longer.  Also, does one of your Sims have the Animal Lover reward?  It also makes pets live longer.  I'm not sure that's the correct name of it.

That's odd, Moons Jade is now 48 Days Old and I only know that because when he reached 45 Days the Bar was maxed out, I'm expecting him to go anyday now. Cats live longer than dogs I think. Lady Fleur Jade is nearing 40 Days Old and is only half way in the bar I think.

Maybe cats do live longer than dogs.  I don't remember the ages of the dogs I've played.  That would be strange, though, for them to have different lifespans.

Each breed of pet has a different lifespan. Horses live for 57 days; dogs live for 46 days, and the lifespan for cats is 52 days.  I just checked my sliders under Normal.   Also - since you mentioned this was a dynasty, if your pet is eating gourmet pet food, stop immediately.  Gourmet pet food extends the life of pets so therefore there was a ruling that it was banned.   If the dog is really causing problems for you regarding space, just give the pet up for adoption.  A social worker will come to the house and I'm sure he'll get a good home with someone else unless you really wanted the gravestone for your yard.

That's the thing though. I'm fully aware of the effects of gourmet food so I've never fed it to them...
I've also avoided the animal lover (or whatever it was called :P) lifetime reward.

Quick question though. Are we allowed to use the bottomless pet bowl lifetime reward? It gives them a nice moodlet but I haven't heard that it extends life or anything.

I've not heard of it extending the pet's life, it is just convenient because you never have to fill it, so I would think there is no reason it can't be used in a dynasty.

Just because a Sim's life meter is maxed out does not mean that they should be dead already.  Elder status simply gives a Sim a chance to die each day.  In theory, a Sim could live forever if he/she had some good luck.

I've had a Sim live to be 126 years old, and I've hears of one as old as 135 before Grimmy stopped by.

Well, he's 79 now and I have another dog who's 52. Either they're VERY lucky, or my dogs are bugged.
