Problems with interacting
« on: February 18, 2012, 09:39:37 PM »
Hope someone can help me please. My sims interact with some and not others. It doesn't bring up any interaction options. This is frustrating as relationships are one sided. They can talk to me etc but I of course have no input into the relationship. It is now happening with my married couple as well. The wife can interact with hubby but not the other way round. It wasn't always like that and now one of my daughters has met someone she likes and he likes her but she can never interact with him, he chats away to her all the time though. LOL, gotta love it  ::) By the way, I have 7 family members and this seems to be random as they all have this problem at some time or the other but not with everyone, very strange but I would really like it if my hubby stopped giving me the silent treatment  :D

When you say they can't interact with each other, what exactly happens when you click on a Sim to talk to him/her?  Do you get any options at all?  Any messages?

Hello Pam , nothing at all but I can click on say a chess table and play chess with them but like with foosball can't click on them and ask them to join. Sometimes (but not always) it states no interaction possible and it's not because they are doing something else. Not all my family members can interact with each other (and I have 7) My hubby can't interact with me at home although I can with him but on holiday it's not a problem :)

It appears to be random and non specific to any one person eg: all my family members can chat to some people and not others, another family member can chat to.... oh gosh ! lets say you and Carl are family, you can chat to me but Carl can't then my brother Joe blogs can chat with Carl but not you etc. Hope you get the general idea. It has nothing to do with relationships either as that is all in order  :'(

Did you try to reset everyone?

"testingcheatsenabled true"
then:
"resetsim *"

without the quotations.

Oh oh.. this sounds like a problem I had once. Except with me it was with just one sim - no one could interact with him, but he also couldn't click on others.

Do try the resetSim * cheat, it didn't work with me though. If it doesn't work with you, I suggest switching active households, then switch back to them and see if the problem is still there. If it is still there, then you will probably have to resort to saving your household to the bin and just moving them to another town, unless anyone else has any ideas? But yeah, that's what I would do. I'd think moving to another town would definitely fix it but try the others first. :)

Thanks for your advice ladies, have reset sims a number of times in the past due to sims freezing but that has never amended the interacting problem, I've worked so hard on this family so don't want to lose them, will just have to continue as is despite the frustration. My one daughter is a rock star but when she goes for autograph sessions at the theatre or stadium she doesn't sign anything, I see all these sims waiting for her autograph but she just stands there. Oh well, so many glitches on 3, 2 never had all these problems, will just plod along as I don't want to try any patches either, see to many people complaining about them in the forums. Lovely site you have here Pam and Carl :) Love all the tips

You don't have to do the testingcheatsenabled part.  Just Ctrl+Shift+C then resetsim *.

Do you have any mods installed?  Also, have you tried exiting the game and re-starting?

You won't lose the family's skills and relationships with each other if you move them towns, like I suggested. The problem you're having will be almost guaranteed to stop if you move them towns. (I see no reason for it not to work.) They will also keep their celebrity status. The only thing they won't keep is their house, although you can choose to take that with them, and the relationships they have with sims in the town that are outside the family.

When you take your sim to sign autographs, do you click on the people to get the interaction to "sign autographs".  You didn't mention that, so I was just wondering. :)

You ladies are all so helpful, yes I have gone out of game and back in, this has been happening for over a month now but I only thought to ask about it now.

No, I don't have any mods or anything like that. Only had game installed as well as WA, Ambitions and Loft rooms. no patches or anything either.

On the Autograph issue, I used to just send her off for her autograph session and after doing that twice and getting feed back on the bad job she is doing of it ( LOL ) I followed her the 3rd time, saw a whole bunch of people standing around with autograph bubbles and getting frustrated because she wasn't signing, tried clicking on them then but told me no interaction available so tried clicking on her to see if there was an option to sign autographs and nothing there either.

On moving issue, thanks for your advice, any suggestion of which is the safest town to move to ? Actually, now that I think of it, game doesn't show any other towns and I wondered why. In sims 2 you could go to places in the other towns in 3 I don't have that option

What do you mean the game doesn't show any other towns? Do you have Ambitions, Late Night or Pets? These are the EPs that come with new towns. You can also download Riverview from the store for free if you have registered your game.

Here are instructions for moving your family to another town. :)

Just for your information, if you start an autograph session, you cannot just leave the sim there. She/he needs to sign according to who came first or other sims get frustrated and that may be why she couldn't sign. You have to watch them, and when someone runs up , quickly click on them for sign autograph. When you see someone comeing click on them; if you don't get the "sign autograph" wait a bit and you will. Her "honor" comes from signing first to last. I've been publically disgraced after an autograph session from not signing people who arrived before others.

When you move them, i hope it settles your problem.
