The House from HELS
« on: February 10, 2012, 06:14:33 PM »
As seen on Carl's Guide!

The House from HELS (High End Loft Stuff):

Background:  While writing the guide for the High End Loft Stuff pack, Carl and I bounced around the idea of using the items from this stuff pack to redecorate one of the houses in Sunset Valley...a place that would be familiar to readers.  So I began my search for the perfect house to redecorate.  I looked closely at every house in town, trying to find a suitable candidate for refurbishing.  What I discovered was that either none of the objects from the pack fit in with the architecture, or that the house was too small to effectively showcase all of the items in the pack.  After a couple of hours of house shopping, I got frustrated and made an off-handed comment to myself:  "I'd be better off just building a whole new house..."

A couple of seconds later, it dawned on me:  why don't I just build a whole new house?  An hour or so and 4 scrapped floor plans later, the walls were up, the free floor tiles were down and the House from HELS was effectively born!

This house uses objects from High End Loft Stuff where they were available, and base game objects where they weren't (the kitchen and dining room).  No other expansion or stuff pack objects were used.  Some HELS objects were used multiple times, but every object in the stuff pack was used at least once.  There aren't a lot of decor items placed on the lot, but most of the rooms won't require much to push their environment value up to give the best moodlet.

Lot Size:  30x30
Bedrooms:  3
Bathrooms:  2.5
Cost when placed on X lot:  $137,948
Cost when placed on X lot unfurnished:  $76,653
Requires High End Loft Stuff.

Ground Floor:

Contains a master suite, kitchen (with a walk in refrigerator that has a door that can be locked) with a small, adjoining room perfect for a laundry room, dining room, living room and a full bath.

Loft:

Holds a bedroom/study area and the master bath.

Basement:

A fully finished rec room, guest bedroom and a half bath.

Back Yard:

A garden with a semi-secluded fire pit area and a swimming pool.

* Special thanks goes out to Leto85 for his idea of the walk in refrigerator.  Special thanks also goes out to the regulars in The Official Building/Remodeling Showboat thread for their landscaping suggestions and support, especially to Samoht04 and Danefaith for their spectacular example and inspiration.

Wow! I really like the backyard.. it looks great Hosfac! :D

Would I be given the pleasure to do something like this for a different stuff pack? Like Outdoor Living? I remember asking a really, really, really long time ago. I can't remember if I got a response ::)

So yeah, could I try? It would be fun :P

Hey guys I'm taking an extended hiatus... again. I'm out of ideas to build houses and I don't have as much fun designing homes like I used to; it feels more like a chore. So that's where I'll be, I will probably be back sometime. :P
