Email in Downloads Folder
« on: February 04, 2012, 08:14:39 PM »
This probably sounds weird, but there's a file in my sims downloads folder that is "[email protected]" It has a size of 151 KB. I've definitely never had it before, and it says it was last modified on January 22nd. Does anybody have any idea what this file is? And if it's safe to delete?

I don't know what's in the file, but I can tell you where you got it from because I have one too (and I was very angry when I saw it >:(). Or, to be exact, I have that email file only in the "The Sims 3" folder I used to download free stuff from inside the game. The last feature of Shop Mode where they introduced with the last patch, and that let you see free/paying items (with yellow borders) in the various Build/Buy/CAS modes in game.

My file is dated from January 16th, and the .sims3pack I downloaded have the same date too.

In the other "The Sims 3" folders I have (I use your factory reset tip), there is no email file, but they have never connected to the web either.

I don't know if it's safe to delete though. I'd assume yes, but one never knows...

This kind of file is the very reason I'm not much thrilled by the new features of Showtime, certainly when some of them will come with the patch itself. (Yes, I'm a tad paranoid sometimes  ;))

Thanks for that info! I've done a lot of factory resets and the first thing I always do is turn of shop mode, so now I'm just even more confused as to why it is in there! I might try another factory reset to see if it shows up again. If it does, I'll delete it and see if anything goes wrong with my game.

Do you think using the store through the igs.sims website has anything to do with it? I may have downloaded from there on this sims file.

If you've never used shop mode, then yes, I bet the IGS site is the culprit.

Ah, ok. That would make sense. I had to use it around the holidays because the official site was too busy to ever load for me, lol. Thanks for your help!

I've had that file come into my folders as soon as I download anything from the store if I was signed into the launcher.   Basically that email address is the same one attached to my Sims3 Account so I think it works off there to possibly give access to the downloaded/installed items.   That's what I always assumed anyway when I saw it since it was my specific Sims 3 email.  I say this because I've never used the IGS ever.  As a Mac user, it has almost never worked completely/properly for me.

I'm sure it is part of the Launcher, so that you can download and upload to the EA site. When Showtime comes, I assume this will probably be part of the Simport.

That's a really good observation. The file isn't all that big so I may actually just leave it, especially now that you and Ricalynn are suggesting it's attatched to the launcher.
