Another question about the Nectar skill:  The oldest bottle of nectar that I made is 154 weeks old.  I am just curious as to how long you should wait before you have a bottle of nectar that is 1 year old, i.e. is there some simple formula to translate SIM weeks to a SIM year?

Maybe the Nectar Challenge which ended on Week 15 day 2 in game has something to do with it? Metro will know if it does.

I don't understand what the nectar making challenge has to do with the question.  But that's weird that the nectar is 154 weeks old and isn't shown as being a certain number of years old.  I thought surely Sims have 52 weeks in the year just like we do.  Very odd.  Hopefully one of our members will have some answers.

Yeah, samoht04, the nectar challenge and this thread aren't connected at all.

@Pam, I don't have a definitive answer on years in Sims 3 because I've never played a file for that length, but I would guess that there are no years. Just like there are no months. Months and years vary whereas weeks do not.

Doesn't the Week: 13 - Pomegranate Life Fruit Nectar mean that you made it on the 13th Week? Those nectars you obtain from transfiguration or as treasures say 123 Years Old.
So what I'm trying to say is: Are you sure you're talking about age or when you made it?

Now what I'm thinking is that you made your nectar on the 154th week, wow. Or did you really find a nectar that says 154 Weeks Old? Then I don't know.

This leads me to another question... about Nectar Aging.

I don't really know how to phrase this question but - How does the type of nectar affect the price growth of a nectar? Does anyone have a calculation to this?

You see, I have a Week: 13 - Flame Fruit Nectar, 100% Flame Fruit, Perfect Quality, $9,353 and a Week: 29 - Life Fruit Pomegranate Nectar, 90% Life Fruit, 10% Pomegranate, Perfect Quality, $13,922.

The thing is, I made the Flame Fruit Nectar(FFN) 16 weeks before I made the Life Fruit Pomegranate Nectar(LFPN). Somehow, probably because of LFPN is Absolutely Amazing, caught up and surpassed FFN after a number of weeks(I'm on Week 58, btw).

So what is the factor exactly? Just say I made two different types of Absolutely Amazing Nectar(one LFPN and another something else), and made they have the about same price(because one is concentrated, and one has gone through extended nectarification). We all know LFPN ranks the highest, so does it mean that LFPN will go up in price faster than the other? Or does the price up factor only include Absolutely Amazing nectar vs Great nectar and others?

Hmm, maybe samoht will know. Sorry man, I had to. =D

Ok this one is answered in the Nectar Making Guide. I could be a little annoyed that looking at the page on aging wasn't involved in this thread at all, but I'm going to go ahead and quote it because I understand the confusion. In essence, I found it to be a very simple process that was 10% when aged in the finest nectar rack (you are wasting money to buy the cheapest ones).

Quote
Aging
Making more and more valuable bottles and letting them age should be your Sim's ultimate goal. Nectar Racks must be placed in a basement for optimal effect. Pick the best rack, as it seems to have a better impact on the aging process. Nectar will age at around 10% of its base value per day. Some might think it is delivering diminishing returns because this is always computed at the base value. For example, a $100 bottle aged 10 days at 10% of base value will be worth $200.

I honestly didn't care to test the other racks or their effects of not being in a basement. I should tell you that in general it is a waste to make "pure" nectar, say 10 flame fruit. Although it's perfect quality it misses the multiplier for taste and quality (overall price) that will affect aging. The best possible nectar recipe is known and listed within the guide as well. Right the LFPN.

As far as age goes, you already have your answer. You will see weeks and never years. A Sim who is 52 weeks old (an Earth year) has already long passed under normal aging circumstances. The bottles you get from transfiguration are all many years old and do age at 10% of their original value. This means that bottles bought in France can be bought for a future profit and aged at home. Please correct me if I'm wrong on any of this. Again -- 10% if in the prime nectar rack stored in a basement, anything else botches that number but then if you're pursuing the skill you should at least have a rack -- then when affordable build a basement.

Nectar in inventory < Nectar in Rack < Nectar in Rack stored in basement. Never buy the cheap rack, the expensive one will pay for itself.

I wonder about nectar stored in basement with no rack vs nectar in rack without basement but no one would really care.

Owh, it misses it's multiplier for overall price by a lot. Far off 10%.

It really appeals because I have a few nectar racks with different sorts of nectars from transmuting. Initially, in a single rack, I arranged all of them according to their price(which are no more different than 10-20k apart). The most expensive on the top followed by the least. Either they somehow managed to jumble themselves up or some really aged slowly. Now I have 400k nectar in the middle, 200k nectar on the top, 250k here and there, and so on and so forth.

Mind you, all these are done with the best nectar racks and in the basement.

Ah, those pure nectars were made before I knew the best formula - LFPN. I keep them for its sentimental value. Heh.

Yeah, samoht04, the nectar challenge and this thread aren't connected at all.

It was kind of just a stab in the dark that the the end date and the aging were connected!  ;)

Wow, this is very interesting, the only reason I haven't gone far into Nectar Making was because I didn't understand it most of the time. Like which fruits would equal better nectar and so on. I tried to have one of my elder Sims take up Nectar for just the heck of it because she was retired and had nothing better to do, so I just had her take fruit from her old garden and none of it ever turned out good. I normally just mixed up all the kinds of grapes that she had (and she had all of them). They are still sitting in that families basement aging. I think though that when it comes down to Sims nectar aging however, it won't show up in years because it was made by your Sims. Like most bottles that are measured in years are the ones you FIND and/or BUY and not the ones you make. When you make them, seeing as the game bases its sole major time frame on weeks, would just make it easier by writing down how many weeks old it is, so you don't have to do the math. That's just my opinion and like I said earlier, I haven't really gotten into the Nectar Making business.

Edit: to make sense of it, what I was trying to say is that when you hover over the clock it says "Week:___ Day:____" and not "Year:___" because it would seem very complicated to get into that. Maybe that's why Nectar only ages in weeks. Hopefully that clarified what I was saying.

I know this is a common misconception people have - but the 'Week: XX - (Nectar name)' is not the age, but when you made it(i.e.: the week you were on when you made it).

Only the ones you find or buy are shown how old. It'll have '809 Years Old - (Nectar name) instead of Week:. Don't get confused or mixed up. Notice the ':' vs 'Old'.

So what I'm saying is that you'll, in fact, never see your homemade nectar age... In fact, I don't think I've ever seen or bothered to see a 1 year old nectar age to a 2 year old nectar... because 52 weeks to observe this matter is just too painful.

I just thought I would throw this in.  I set a bottle of nectar my sim had made on her bar in the backyard and basically forgot about it.  I'm not sure how much time had passed but when I went to pick it up it definitely had aged to a much higher price.  It probably wasn't the best spot for aging nectar but I was surprised that it was definitely worth more than it had been.

Oh you would be right, thank you for the clarification, I thought that meant how old it was. Silly me! ;D Anyways yes I have seen the price go up because its been sitting around, however I wonder if there is ever a way of finding out how old it is on the nectar itself... well other than taking that week, and some other math stuff but if there was a way to apply the prices to the age it was. You know? Like if we have bottle A worth $10 when we start and 2 Sim weeks later its worth $14, then we'd know you most likely gain a good $2 every week. Etc etc. That was just an example though...

Well, you can assure yourself of a few things with nectar value:

1) If it's in a basement level, and....
2) If it's stored in the best rack, then...

Base value of the bottle will increase 10% every night at midnight.

So, for round numbers, if you're starting with a $500 dollar bottle (the value when it pops out of the machine), then it will increase in value $50 every single night with the above 2 conditions.

Oh! Thanks for that tip, I didn't know it went up only 10%, but that would make sense though :)
