Hazel's her mother. I was quite shocked when she arrived, she's the first time child I've had in a game. So much for only having one kid this generation, that was the plan.

A Birthday, An Engagement, A Fight

Michael is home from boarding school, and having his graduation ceremony... by the side of the road up by the Wolff's house at the start of the game?

Michael: I'm an adult and I can do whatever I want now! That, and this is where the car dropped me off.

He's gained the snob trait, and so instantly ran off to buy some new, expensive clothes and furniture. Somehow his lifetime wish changed when he went away.

Here he is in his new clothes.

Michael: Why am I outside? I hate outside. Bugs. Eww. GET ME INDOORS WOMAN!

Sherrie loves the outdoors, so she spends a lot of time sat on the slide. She's also a perfectionist and an angler.

However, homework means coming indoors and doing maths, so she doesn't like that anywhere near as much.

Sherrie: So if I take three away from seven I get... Hang on, my pencil's broken! It's not writing! Mum!

Hazel: It's upside down.

Sherrie: I... erm... was just testing you.

And meanwhile in the life of our heir... happy birthday!

Ben: Shut up.

In denial?

Ben: It's my birthday and I'll read books if I want to.

Hazel is... Hazel?! Hazel! You're being attacked! I'll call the police!

Hazel: That'll teach you to withhold information from the law!

Wait, you started that fight?

Hazel: I was bored of talking people into giving me information, I thought I'd see if this was quicker.

Ben: Woo!

Have you harvested enough grapes yet?

Ben: No, it's my birthday!

Ben: Yep, hand still attached. What about my feet? Right, they're here too.

You're a doctor. Surely you should know by now that hands and feet tend to stay attached.

Ben: Nope, Corey Finn did some research and apparently there's a rare but increasing phenonomen of sim's hands actually falling off after they have a birthday! It's dangerous, they can fly out of control and knock out passing bystanders, and they don't always grow back!

I worry for your patients, I really do. Now get back to harvesting those grapes.

Ben: *grumble*

We have a lot of work to do mate. You have a lot more grapes to squish.

Ben: Because my stupid watcher failed to understand the meaning of homegrown.

Yes, because I messed up. And you've got another two levels at work to go yet.

Paparazzi: Hmm, Ben Crumplesteel might be having a mid-life crisis. He's not doing anything to suggest he does have one, but it might make a nice angle for a story. We've been far too complementary about the CrumpleSteels ever since his grandma threatened to kill us all on her adult birthday. They're an odd family, there's got to be gems to exploit.

Ben: Could you mutter about discrediting my family a bit quieter please? Ta.

Oh, and I promised you an engagement in the title, didn't I. Here you go.

Next time: Another couple of birthdays, some Arlo Bunch, and Michael takes befriending co-workers a little too far.

Well, that could be because they're too far out of their regeneration cycle, couldn't it? ;)

Haha! Ben's still wandering around complaing that it's real research while squishing grapes, so we won't be seeing much of him this chapter.

While We Wait

Yes, it's that stage in a DecaDynasty. The one where the heir is frantically finishing their requirements, and where the rest of the family get their pictures snapped doing dull things and/or put into bizarre situations just to keep me interested in the game.

Jamie: Hey!

What?

Jamie: Some interesting things have happened.

Like?

Jamie: I had my birthday. Just because I'm a loser doesn't mean you get to skim over my birthday.

Okay, yeah, Jamie aged up with a very bug-eyed look.

Jamie: Ow! All that cheering's put my back out! I need a pipe and slippers.

Sherrie is doing a fish impression. If you are at one with the fish, you catch more fish.

Sherrie: Actually, I was having a birthday.

Oh. New clothes?

Sherrie: And a hairstyle, or I won't forgive you.

Obviously she looks a lot like Hazel, because Hazel's her only parent. Her style is entirely base game, just because.

Hazel: You're still my husband, even if you are grey haired, even more wrinkly, and wearing a horrible cardigan. Come here!

Jamie: While I appreciate that you're trying to make me feel good about having aged up, I'd really rather you put that bowl down before trying to seduce me. I'm sure the health and safety inspectorate would have something to say if the Leader of the Free World had his eye taken out with a cooking bowl!

Hazel: Aww, spoilsport.

It'd get you in the papers!

Outside, Arlo Bunch is disintegrating on the lawn.

Jamie: My lawn!

Hazel: ARLO!

Jamie: My lawn is far more important than some vamp who can't remember to bring plasma fruit! I mean, seriously guys! If you were a vampire, you'd bring plasma fruit everywhere because it's in every dynasty that you always die on other people's lawns because you hadn't brought a plasma fruit and you should really take notice of that because it's a lot of pain to die and a lot of mess to sweep up afterwards!

And breathe.

Jamie: Prrrrrrp!

Grim: Hahahaha! Prrrrrrp!

I thought you were annoyed about your lawn?

Jamie: Hahahaha!

Arlo: Oooh, wonder if I've got chance to sample some of that awesome nectar I've heard's in the basement of this house while Grim's busy?

Michael is oblivious to the drama at home, and is trying to find himself his perfect girl, while also befriending all of his co-workers at the journalism towers.

Michael: I've brought you some flowers!

Tania: How amazing! I'm so surprised! I totally didn't see you buying them after work earlier before we came here on our date.

Michael: Good, I was hoping you hadn't.

Michael: *mwaaaah*

Tania: You missed.

Michael: Oh.

Now onto the second date of the evening. Michael has learnt his lesson not to buy flowers in front of the woman you're attempting to surprise with them, but apparently not that you should really sit on the same table as your date when you go out for a romantic meal.

Michael: What team do you support?

Kari: What? I can't hear you!

Michael: I SAID, WHAT TEAM DO YOU SUPPORT?

Kari: What?

So the next step to go from here is apparently not to buy the flowers in secret or to sit at the same table as your date, but just to ditch all formalities and go in for the kill outside the science centre with a woman old enough to be your mum.

Ruth: Sorry love, I'm old enough to be your mum.

Michael: Man, this dating thing is HARD.

Next time, the penultimate chapter including the wrong wedding.

Move Number Four

This really, really bad screenie is Ben topping his career and achieving his lifetime wish. You can just about see his lifetime wish points. The glow of him being happy is so much that both him and Corey Finn behind him are blinded by it. They are both apparently thinking about absolutely nothing.

Ben: Hey! I was thinking about stuff!

What were you thinking about?

Ben: Ermmmm... stuff. Shut up.

Also in the "shots of requirements being completed category, here's Ben's collection. It's a bunch of gems, worth $16,142. I really need to get better at doing the collections.

And lastly here's the nectar cellar. All of those racks are stacked full of bottles, and selling them netted us enough money to buy the building and property.

Now, to the action. Michael met Ken, and...

Jamie: Oh, hi Ken!

Michael: Daaaaad!

Michael: So how about being my boyfriend?

Michael: No, scrap that. Let's skip that step. Will you marry me?

A private wedding outside the house, and...

...awww.

Ben: Oi, you, watcher. Over here!

What... no, hang on. You never want my attention. You always want me to go away.

Ben: Yeah, well, it's time for my wedding, and apparently you have to come with me otherwise the readers will be cross.

Ben: Watcher?

I'm getting a lot of love from you today.

Ben: I'm nervous.

Oh, go on, you'll be fine. She's your fiancee, she doesn't bite. Much.

Ben: So, my love, I know you're meant to be going to work but let's have a private wedding really quickly.

Eugenia: Okay.

Told you you'd be fine.

Ben: Shut up.

Glad you're back to your usual self.

Eugenia: With this ring, do you promise to love, honour, and pull sappy faces for as long as we both shall live?

Ben: I do.

Ben: With this ring, do you promise to love, honour and pull not-quite-so-sappy faces for as long as we both shall live?

Eugenia: I do.

You may now kiss the... oh, I see you are already.

And that's generation four complete. I'm glad to move. Ben's character has never come through for me as much as the other heirs so far, and the fifth generation is much more interesting!

Thanks to everyone that's reading!

I think we all have characters in our stories and games that we do not connect to. So pleased that you and Ben survived and that the next generation is on the way.

Thanks all!

A Trio of Five

The first thing Ben wanted to do was head to the bedroom. But first, Eugenia had to go to the mirror and dresser, we had to kick her vampire parents out, and then we had to do a bit of redecoration.

Ben: I'm bored of waiting now. Hurry up!

Artistic vision cannot be rushed.

Ben: Yes it can.

We all know what happens next from here...

...erm, kids TV?

Eugenia: I like kids TV.

You do know what kids TV does to a hopefully-pregnant woman, don't you?

Eugenia: Prepares them for the wonder of pregnancy and childbirth.

Perhaps it's better you don't know.

Eugenia: I don't think I think pregnancy is so full of wonder anymore.

The compulsory screenie of someone finding out they're pregnant.

Ben is a doting father-to-be. I used to think he had a grumpy hidden trait, but now I just think it's me he doesn't like.

Eugenia: I can't wait for the baby! He or she is going to be adorable!

Ben: I know! I wonder who she'll take after?

Eugenia: She?

Ben: Yep, she.

While Eugenia is going off the to spa to ease her backache, Ben is inducing backache.

Ben: Help, help, help, how do I stop this thing? HELP!

No. You're always rude to me.

Ben: No, seriously, I might die, help!

I've checked Carl's Guide, and treadmills are not listed as a possible cause of death in the sims. I wonder what colour ghost you'd get if you could die on a treadmill though?

Ben: I'm dying! Stop pondering!

And across the other side of Sunset Valley there's screams of a different sort.

You can't give birth here, off you go to the hospital.

Eugenia: Don't worry, I'm on my way.

You're walking?!

Eugenia: It's only round the corner.

Yes, but you're in labour?

Eugenia: Weirdly, the contractions stopped as soon as I started going to the hospital. Isn't it funny how these things work?

Very.

The extended family have gathered outside the hospital to await the new arrival.

Wait. New arrivals.

Eugenia: Isn't it wonderful?!

Ben: I need nectar. Get me nectar.

Here, from left to right, is Lexa, Anais and Kelsey. Kelsey and Anais are in the wrong swings for their favourite colour. All three of them have identical traits, athletic and disciplined. And which one of them is the heir? Not telling.

Ben: I still need that nectar, woman. This is all your fault.

Ruin my suspenseful chapter ending, won't you...

Hello there little nooboos. Lexa and Anais look like they might have red hair. I know it is not possible to tell at this stage but just agree with me.

Welcome to the triplets! It's lucky that you have the swings otherwise Ben would be demanding his nectar a lot more often.  ;)
If at first you don't succeed, call it version 1.0.
