Required disc to play game

Hi everyone,

I just recently bought Sims 3: Pets for my girlfriend.  We both like playing it, and it was too difficult to try and mount a disc image so we didn't have to share one disc, so I figured the best option would be to buy a different expansion pack and use the other disc.  So I bought Sims 3: Generations. 

I just got the disc, and installed Generations (I already have Sims Pets installed) but now it's saying I need the Sims 3: Pets disc to play.  I was under the impression that you had to use the disc from the last expansion you installed to run the game, rather than the latest expansion released.

Can someone tell me if I'm wrong about this, and you really do require the latest released expansion disc rather than the latest installed expansion disc?  In other words, if I install Sims Pets (which is the latest expansion released) and then World Adventures (which is believe is the third) I will have to use the Pets cd?  If it helps, I play on a Mac and my girlfriend plays on a PC.

Well, a check of the scripting that produces the prompt gives me the impression that yes, you require the Disc for the Most Recently Released Expansion Pack of those that you have installed.

Unfortunately, I cannot be more specific than that, since I use the Digital Download version, which does not require a disc.

Thanks for the reply!  I figured the prompt was correct.  I was just very frustrated because I mainly purchased Generations so that we would not have to share a disc all the time, (we don't live together) and I attempted to research it online but everyone said that you needed to use the latest disc installed.  I never saw anything about using the latest expansion released.

Now I suppose we are forced to find a way to start up the game without using the disc (which I've seen threads for on here) or burning ourselves another copy of Pets.  It seems like you need to use a PC if you want to start up your game without a disc, and those tricks won't work for a Mac..

Twallan is correct.  You need the disk of the most recently released expansion or stuff pack.  Master Suite Stuff was just released a few days ago, so it would work for what you want.  If one of you install Master Suite, that would be the disk required to run the game.

What if you uninstalled pets on your computer than used the serial code to get the download? Someone more technical than me would have to confirm but I think you could do that.

To redeem a Sims 3 serial code (from the physical product) for a digital download of the game in Origin:
1) Go to http://Activate.ea.com
2) Enter the serial code for the game.
3) Enter login information for your EA/Origin account
4) Click Sign In.
The game should now be activated as a digital download on your account. Launch Origin and it should be shown under the “My Games” tab.

Please note that when changing from physical Sims 3 to digital Sims 3, you will need to uninstall the game, and then reinstall the digital version in order to stop using the disc to play the game. Similarly, if you have a digital download of The Sims 3 but the physical disc of The Sims 3 World Adventures, you MUST use the World Adventures disc to run the game.

Awesome!  My girlfriend has origin so she'll be able to change to the digital download.  Thanks for your help!
