Lol. "This is so weird";D

I think Jack is up to the task. He is pretty crafty from what I've read so far and resilient to have lost so many that were near and dear to him. He'll pull through. Devon, Aurora, NOLA give the man some credit!

I agree with the other comments. I really think that Jack will be able to do the quest. Great update!

Chapter 21: Heather
I didn't get much sleep last night, not because of nightmares or lots of chores... because of Nola and Jack. They were fighting for ours about the quest! Apparently Nola was begging him to go home and forget her but he refused.  If I were Jack I would have taken the offer to go home, he is going to die. But once things settled down I could finally rest my eyes.

I was up early to cook breakfast. Waffles I guess.

After I pulled the waffles out of the oven I quickly ate mine before the Royals arrived.

Instead of eating all at once people came in waves. First, or course was Devon and Aurora who oddly sat far away from each other in silence. I wonder what had happened...

To avoid the awkwardness I hid in the kitchen.  Until the Queen rang the servant bell and I went running to her room.
"Yes my lady?" I asked.
"You have been slacking off!" She boomed pointing to the bathtub and toilet...
"I am very sorry my lady, I will get that cleaned up promptly." I said.
"You better or the basement with you!" She ordered. I cannot stand the basement, that is where all the criminals stay!

I disrobed (so my clothing wouldn't be dirty) and began to scrub the bathtub.

The Clock tower chimed 12. I ran up to Nola's room and began getting her ready to say goodbye to Jack. He was leaving for his Quest today.

I met her in the hall.

She stared at the ground blankly.
"Nola! Hurry you look terrible." I pulled her into the room. I fixed her hair, tightened her corset and fluffed her dress.
"Hurry they probably already started the ceremony!"  I pushed her out of the room and she picked up her skirt and ran down to the Great Hall. I followed. She ran in and saw Jack. I stayed in the doorway.

"Nola... say your goodbyes." The King announced and she teared up. She went running up the Jack and the Royal court watched.

"Be careful. Please come back..." Nola cried. Jack's face was hard from holding back the tears.
"Everyone leave so they can say goodbye in peace." The King announced. Everyone left but
I watched through the door way.

"I will return to you." Jack said.

They kissed and then they had to walk their opposite ways. No turning back.  This was it, Jackson Elliot was on his way to the quest.

Good luck Jack! Hard to believe he was once just the little troublemaker.

Chapter 22: Jackson on his Quest Day 2
"If you made it too the lake follow the track and DO NOT cut corners or you will pay the price." I read the not pinned to the tree. What "Track"? I don't see any tracks? I walked a whole day to the lake Devon told me about and now... a stupid note on a tree is telling me what to do!

I sat down on the foggy ground. I should probably rest before I continue. I made a small fire with some damp wood (didn't work very well) but I finally got something.

I woke up early the next morning, it was still dark out. I collected my few things and began to look for the "Track" I walked through the thick-fog woods around the lake. No tracks. This is hopeless. I bet this was some plan to get rid of me so Nola can find a real king. Yeah, that's it. I am going home. I miss my family.

But then I remembered Nola, and how she would cry if I didn't return and... what she would do if she found out I went home and left her. I can't go home...

I stopped walking and sat down facing the lake. I looked all around me looking for an answer... then I saw an odd looking row of wooden boards with rows of metal on either side. I walked closer to investigate. Then it hit me... The TRACK! This is the track.

My quest begins here... for Nola. I walked along the weird track until, the track began going in the lake.
What now?

Should I go into the lake? I would get very wet and I might get a cold and die.  I began thinking horrible thoughts when I remembered "For Nola." I took a deep breath which might be my last... and walked into the lake, step by step the ice cold watch crept up my body until I was swimming with my toes tapping each board to make sure I was on track. Then I felt a tugging on my pant leg... it was harder and harder when I looked down and saw a fish-type creature attacking me. I struggled and it pulled me down a few times. It was hard to breath and the creature took a bite on my calf, it was deep and it hurt horribly. I was ready to give up when I felt my sword I had the strength to pull it out of the water and stab the creature with my last breath. 3 stabs later I was free from the creatures grip.

I was continuing along the water covered track with I ran straight into a wooden structure jutting out of the lake, how did I not see this earlier? What does this mean? Then, I noticed an etching on one of the pieces of wood, it was an arrow pointing up. Do I climb this? Well, I guess so. I hauled my sopping wet body out of the water and the air hit me like a falling tree. Cold, so cold. I climbed up this unstable wooden monster.

Higher and higher I climbed until I could see the top of the platform. I made it!

This is were I will spend the night, it seems safe-ish.

Chapter 23: Back at the Kingdom with Nola

The thunder cracked outside my window. I woke startled. I look over in bed for Jack to comfort me... nothing. I hope he is ok.The rain pelted the roof like arrows. Then I began to feel very sick. I sat up quickly and rang for Heather.

Once I was up so was my food.

Ew...

Heather knocked on the door. I ran to the dresser and put on my slip.

I opened the door. Heather was very wet.
"Come in please..." I pulled Heather inside my room and handed her a towel.
"Thank you my lady." She said I smiled.
"What is it?" She asked.
"I threw up..." I said.
"From what?" Heather said.
"I'm not sure, I don't feel sick." I said.
"Lay down please." She walked me to the bed and covered me with the blanket.
"Thank you, but I don't think that will help." I said.
"I'm guessing you have the worries." Heather said.
"Come on Heather! I am not five, I know that's not real." I laughed.
"Well, I meant is that you might be worried about Jack and made your self sick like the one time I was talking to you." She said.
"True..." I said feeling like that wasn't it.
"Well I will stay here all night with you." She said.
"Heather you don't have to..." I began but Heather had already laid down on the floor next to my bed. I smiled at her.
"Thank you." I felt comforted now... not like Jack's comfort but the warm fuzzy feeling that you are with a true friend.

In the morning I look down for Heather. But quickly realize she is already cleaning the room.
"Morning Princess." She greeted perk (like usual). I sat up and suddenly felt heavy.  I stood up.
"Heather?" I said.
"Yes?"
"Honestly... do I look fat?" I said. Her eyes widened in shock.
"Do I?" I asked again. No reply.
"That's an order." I said.

"Well..." She started.
"Be honest."
"Not that much... just a little bigger then usual... not fat though like..." She paused.
"Go on..." I said.
"Pregnant." She spit out.
"PREGNANT?!?" I screamed. I put my hand on my stomach.

I felt the bulge.
"I think you right..."
"What are you going to do?" Heather asked.
"I can't keep a secret I just can't! Never have never will." I cried.
"Calm down... I have an idea." Heather said.
"What is it?"
"If we act all excited then so will every one else, like this was planned." She smiled.
"That might work."

Later at Breakfast we all gathered to eat. I stood up and tapped my cup.
"Attention." I said nervously. Heather winked at me.
"I have an exciting announcement to make." I said in the happiest tone I could muster out.
"I am pregnant!" I announced.  Aurora spit out her water and Devon almost fell out of his chair, My mom smiled and my dad... well... his hand was tight around the knife.
"That's grand." My mother said (she always loved children). My father continued eating unnoticed by anyone else.
"Wow... look at you!" Aurora said.
"Congratulations." Devon smiled.

I wish Jack was here to share the moment. Well I will soon be a mother.
